DunfermlineWonderful...Stayed here last 2 years and going again this year.
Left on 04/01/2013 for a stay in June 2012
We have stayed at Hamarsay for the last 2 years on our annual holiday.
Its the most beautiful cottage, spacious and very well decorated. The garden is ideal for our German Shepherd dogs and they love the walks around the cottage. We look forward to this every year and its well worth the long trip from Fife to get there.
Scalpay, Harris and Lewis have breathtaking scenery ,lovely people and great places to eat. We are looking forward to spending another wonderful week in 2013.
I thought twice about doing this review - only because Id like to keep this lovely place to ourselves!! -

LeedsHome away from home in a breathtaking location!
Left on 02/22/2013 for a stay in July 2012
My young family and I stayed for 2 weeks last summer for a much needed holiday away from our chaotic city life. On arriving at the bridge that links the Isle of Harris to the Isle of Scalpay we were surprised at how such a beautiful 'hideaway' was easily accessed. The village of Scalpay had a friendly family feel with a local cafe and shop that catered to all our needs as well as a community hall and play park for the children. The day we arrived at Hamarsay House the sun was shining and the views to the surrounding islands were glorious! The garden was fully enclosed and Hamarsay House itself provided a very comfortable and cosy home from home to enjoy our time as a family and was a great base for us to explore the area. The large kitchen and dining area was fully equipt, the livingroom had plenty of books and dvds and the kids really enjoyed trying their hand at some fishing for small crabs in the pools of water just over the hill from the house (fishing rods in the hall cupboard)! The Harris Inn Hotel was a short car journey away where we enjoyed a delicious meal(I would highly recommend the fish and chips)!!
We took a couple of day trips to the outstanding beaches in Luskentyre, South Harris. I have been to beaches in countires all over the world but I'm yet to find one that comes remotely close to these breathtaking stretches of sand! Even in the depths of the winter it would be a shame not to visit these as it would be a wasted journey to the isles having not experienced these!
We found Mrs Macleod to be very accommodating when it came to taking our dog, Che, which was a relief as we sometimes find it difficult to book self catering accommodation that will allow for this! Seeing the children glowing from the fresh air was wonderful and their disappointment in having to leave at the end of our holiday was enough for us to book back there this summer. We couldn't recommend this 'little gem' highly enough to those who want a relaxing holiday!!
