This can be seen in the cornicing and other period features, The latest high performance insulation combines with a new central heating system to ensure your comfort all year round.

The cosy lounge has a lovely cottagey feel enhanced by high ceilings deep window ledges and a feature alcove where youll find local interest books and maps. Resting on a slate hearth...Read more

      Fantastic

Left on 04/14/2013 for a stay in April 2013

A lovely cottage in a fantastic location. Atlantic View Cottage had a cosy welcome for us after a long day travelling. The accommodation is great with two good sized bedrooms, the double being ensuite and the main bathroom being particularly spacious. Lounge is comfy with log burning stove, TV and DVD if you stay in long enough to watch it! Great location for exploring Lewis with the Callinish Standing Stones about 25 minutes away and Stornoway well under an hour away. There is a fantastic walk literally from the door step to the beautiful Bosta Beach.

We used it as a base for exploring both Harris and Lewis, and whilst good, it is just over an hour to Tarbet on Harris which does make for relatively long days if you then spend the day on travelling around Harris.

Having said that, the scenery on the drive is breath taking and you don't come this far without expecting to put the miles in.

The cottage is in a very quite location with no through traffic so only the odd car going to local houses.

Overall fully met our expectations and we would recommend atlantic View Cottage.

      Perfect!

Left on 10/07/2012 for a stay in September 2012

We can't speak highly enough of atlantic View Cottage... We enjoyed a fabulous week here in late summer 2012. The cottage is in a spectacular location - with superb views in every direction, of lochs, hills and sea. It is easily reached from Stornoway and very conveniently located for excellent attractions such as Callanish Stone Circle, Bostadh Beach with reconstruction of Iron age dwelling (a beautiful two hour round trip walk from the cottage, well worth doing), the amazing beach at Uig and the road north to the Butt of Lewis and Port Ness. It also feels like you are miles from anywhere - a really peaceful and secluded spot for a holiday.

The cottage itself has been refurbished to an excellent standard. The beds are amazingly confortable, bathrooms are clean and spacious and the kitchen is brilliantly equipped. Everything has been tastefully and beautifully put together, and makes for a perfect base to explore this stunning part of the world. We particularly enjoyed relaxing in the cosy and comfortable living room in front of the gorgeous wood burning fire.

Anne (the owner) was so friendly and welcoming, and ensured that we had everything we needed (right down to cake and a warm fire burning on arrival after a long journey on the ferry, perfect!) for a holiday we'll never forget. We would definitely recommend atlantic View Cottage and would go back next week if we could.

Very well equipped cottage fitted out to a high standard. We felt completely at home and had everything necessary for a great stay. We equally enjoyed going out exploring Lewis or staying in and relaxing.
Sunny each of our 4 days although quite windy, we loved the area and completed the magic walk to Bosta.

Be prepared for twisty single track roads with passing places if you are heading anywhwere. Plenty of good walks & a beach to match any worldwide!

Left on 04/27/2012 for a stay in February 2012

We spent February and March exploring the Isle of Lewis from the most comforting base of this cottage. Our adopted home offered warmth and welcoming brightness after our numerous walks and trips in the car. The negotiation for our stay was effortless, and no disappointment on arrival, on the contrary cake laden hospitality tray was the first greeting from our hosts to help us feel instantly at ease and at home. The cottage was exceptionally warm. the bedroom was a delight of colour and further cosiness under the warm duvet - in fact the whole cottage was permeated by peaceful ambience and straightforward practicalities, as everything you needed was at hand. We particularly welcomed the books and maps available on the sitting room shelves, guiding and informing us not just about the interesting local places to visit but also expanding our view of historical events of the Lewis and Great Bernera . We roamed and travelled across the moors, around the rugged coastlines and magnificent sandy beaches, stretched ourselves up the hills, just being around the cottage was a great experience of scenery, with everchanging views of the seascape and the skies. We saw Bernera's own golden eagle, had an otter stoll past our picninc site on Scalpay, left our footprints at Butt of Lewis and down to Leverborough. What I think really touched us is the escape into the wilderness and isolation of places you can only reach by foot - walking over the Morsgail Forest to Loch Reasort was a particulary memorable experience. In spite of the dormant tourist season we found enough places to sample real good food: especially Callanish Visitors Centre, Ravenspoint Community Centre, Skoon Cafe, hotel in Tarbet by the harbour, but most visited place was an Lanntairn arts Centre - to relax with a view of the harbour and watch the world go by. The whole of our experience was permeated by the simplicity of life on the islands - imagined or real - which greatly enriched our life.

Stunning views, well-equipped cottage, but no otters

Left on 04/16/2012 for a stay in April 2012

This is a well-equipped, comfortable cottage which has been modernised very well. There were four of us in our party, two adults and two children, and there was plenty of room for all of us. The location is excellent - out of the way and quiet but not too remote and the views from the cottage were amazing. There are some lovely beaches near by, which our children described as their holiday highlight. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. They did say that otters can be seen from the cottage at times but despite frequent otter-watches we were not lucky!

      A wonderful experience

Left on 01/30/2012 for a stay in June 2011

I originally called anne with an enquiry about her other property and when we discovered that it din't quite meet our needs (only because we needed a walk in shower) Anne told me about the new property not yet completed. She sent me some pictures and I just fell in love with the place. When we arrived there was no dissapointment. The renovation has been made with so much care and attention to detail you just want to move in and stay! The kitchen is extremely well equipped, we made a game out of trying to find something tath had not been thought of and lost! I was travelling with my sister-in-law and we appreciateld the luxury of each having our own room and bathroom, but this property would handle a group of four very comfortably.. The location is perfect for a quiet, relaxing holiday, but there is plenty to see and do on Lewis/Harris so no fear of being bored.
Anne and her family live a few hundred meters away and are ther if you need them but not at all intrussive.
The fresh flowers and cake on our arrival day were a lovely gesture.

All in all I would recommend this property wholeheartedly, but I'd rather go back myself!

A comfy, well equipped and cosy house in a stunning location

Left on 09/15/2011 for a stay in September 2011

We were delighted with our stay at atlantic View cottage on Bernera. The cottage is immaculate inside and has everything you could possibly need for your stay including thoughtful extras like hairdryer, local maps and guidebooks and Dvds and books tailored to the ages of our kids. The view from the cottage are lovely and we spend an idyllic week trying to catch fish, cycling and walking around the island and the rest of Lewis. Anne was extremely helpful and was happy for our kids to explore her croft land as they wanted. The beds are super comfy, the rooms spacious and really tastefully decorated. The kitchen is well stocked and the wood burner in the living room is great for when its cold and wet outside. I would highly recommend this cottage and look forward to returning in the future.

      Excellent accommodation, enchanting island experience

Left on 09/09/2011 for a stay in August 2011

The cottage is lovely. Its interior is modern, suprisingly spacious, beautifully furnished and immaculate throughout. Its two large bathrooms are super especially if, like us, you are travelling with two teenagers! We arrived on a dreary day but at the cottage the fire was already lit and a tray with tea and cake awaited us in the kitchen. We relaxed instantly from our journey. Anne popped over briefly to answer our questions and we found her to be friendly and very helpful. We were relieved when the weather cleared soon after our arrival and we could explore the island easily. The location of the cottage is great for visiting stunning beaches and facinating historic sites. Excellent communication and advice was provided by anne throughout the booking process and our stay. Anne made some very good suggestions for activities we might try with our young son, which were highly appropriate and enhanced our holiday. We received a very friendly welcome and the homemade cake wating for us on our arrival was a lovely touch which we thoroughly enjoyed. My family found the cottage to be very comfortable and extremely well-equipped. Fixtures, fittings and furnishings are of very high quality. The location of the property is wonderful for a truly relaxing "get away from it all" holiday and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the property and sincerely hope that we will be able to return one day. Thank you, Anne for a lovely stay.

A great location and lovely cottage

Left on 09/08/2011 for a stay in July 2011

This is a lovely little cottage in an ideal location. It is slightly off the beaten track but easily accessible by car. Ideal for coastal walks, sea kayaks, fishing or family cycle trips. An accessible slipway a couple of minutes walk along the road allowed us really easy access to the sea loch with the canoe. Yet it is still not that far a drive to Stornoway for shopping or the amazing sandy beaches of Harris.

The cottage was beautifully presented with a small log burning stove, books and games for the kids and the kitchen had far more equipment and utensils than we have at home. The TV signal was a bit dodgey in poor weather, but you don't go all the way to Lewis to watch TV anyway! Our holiday was blessed by good weather but even in a gale its a nice place to stay.

Because of the ferry timetable we couldn't stay for a normal Sat to Sat booking but it didn't matter - we were still accommodated. Many thanks, I'd hope to come back.

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday on Great Bernera, Lewis. Atlantic View Cottage is a great base for touring or walking on Lewis. Alternatively, you could spend your time just soaking up the magnificent views on your doorstep and you never know you might even spot an otter or two! The cottage is very well equipped (even has OS maps and guide books).

The owner is extremely helpful and we are looking forward to a return visit.

Beautiful quiet place to relax and explore the island!

Left on 08/09/2011 for a stay in July 2011

We stayed at anne's atlantic View Cottage for 4 nights in the middle of the tourist season of 2011 (end of July). What a beautiful and quiet location this is! You can leave the house on foot and walk straight into beautful graslands along the coastline or explore the island by car. For example we enjoyed a great walk from Hishinish beach (like being in Thailand, but with a temperature of 18 degr.C). A trip by fast boat along the steep cliffs and out to open sea was also brilliant.

The house itself has two bed- and bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. There is a wooden bench outside to read a book while enjoying the sunshine (or watch a dvd when it's raining).

Anne let's you enjoy your stay in privacy, but has plenty of good advice for you if needed. The dot on the i was to find ready to use ice-cubes in the freezer to cool our drinks and toast to a perfect holiday location!

Superb acommodation, great location for space and views

Left on 08/08/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Loved accommodation - brand new refurbishing, very welcoming (milk, cake, flowers), spacious lounge, ensuite shower in one bedroom; bathroom with bath and separate shower for use by other bedroom occupants, kitchen with dining table plus dishwasher, washer/drier, back room containing boiler for boot/shoe storage, drying. Free internet access. Hot water and heating as required, so cosy. Situated about 200 yards from owners' home, so easy to contact if necessary, though everything ran smoothly for us.

We only stayed 3 nights, because moving south through rest of Outer Hebrides, but as soon as we saw the cottage, we wished we had planned to spend more time there.

Magnificent views as name suggests. Only downside for us was that we often needed to use the car to get to places to walk / cycle from, instead of walking / cycling from the cottage, but that was because we hadn't fully appreciated the size of Lewis / Harris - also hadn't realised quite how long driving would take via roads (single track with passing places as mainly throughout the Outer Hebrides) instead of crow flies distances (our lack of research at fault here). We would definitely return to the cottage, but perhaps with a different agenda - less driving, more local activity or relaxing at the cottage.

I can only recommend this cottage most highly. My daughter (age 27) felt the same - she has been to the Outer Hebrides several times previously including Harris, although never to Lewis before. However, any visitors would need to regard the cottage as a superb place to holiday but without expecting any nightlife - you need to be happy to entertain yourselves. That was our intention so absolutely lived up to expectations which was wonderful for us. I stress this point because it would be such a shame for anybody to be in any way disappointed with this magnificent cottage, which I think could only possibly happen if they arrived expecting local nightlife.

      Summary - absolutely superb

We enjoyed our all too short time here. A fabulously beautiful part of the world, away from urban living and close to the atlantic. High speed wifi will keep you in touch if that's important.
