Just back from abhainn Cottage, it is everything the other reviews describe and more. We loved every minute of our stay. The cottage is immaculate, beds are comfortable, towels fluffy and plentiful. The view from bedrooms, sitting room and deck are ever changing and beautiful. Would happily stay there forever.

From the moment we enetered Scotland to the Monment we arrived back in England, I loved every minute! Even the ferry crossing to Tarbert, Harris was perfect - even though the Finlaggan was late! The cottage is a 50 minute drive from Tarbert and the owner's sister, was on our ferry so we were lucky enough to have her to follow to the cottage (even though I don't think we would have had a problem finding it) The Cottage was warm, welcoming and totally idyllic - we were given a tray of freshly baked cakes and biscuits (thankyou!) .
The jacuzzi bath was to die for, the beds hugely comfortable and full sky tv package a bonus - we have never had this on our previous trips to Scotland so felt spoilt! Brilliant wifi signal too. We had a never ending supply of clean fluffy towels and my Husband and I got dressing gowns too laid on our bed smartly wrapped in ribbons! The scenery from the upstairs bedroom window and the patio was gorgeous - we did use the pation even though it was the first week of april and we saw some stunning sunsets. The cottage is set in a perfect location for day trips out - we visited Harris, Uig (including the distillery) Butt of Lewis Lighthouse, Stornoway and I would just like to mention the Doune Broch (in Carloway) this is quite amazing and if you are travelling with young children - it is well worth an hour or so to see - our children loved it and the lady in the infomation shop bit is a total star, who thrilled our daughter with tales of the Broch!
We have visited a lot of Scotland, but Lewis and Harris are stunning and it was made more special by abhainn Cottage, thank you so much David for letting us enjoy it and also thank you for time in responding to my emails and for all your help, please pass on my tahnks to your sister, who was a star. I can and will thoroughly recommend your beautiful cottage :) We shall be back!! -

The photographs on the website are great and sometimes this can set you up for disappointment but not with abhainn cottage. The owners attention to detail is wonderful, everything from the pictures on the wall to the quality of bed linen let you know this is a special place to stay. It really is a luxurious home, and thatâs how you feel when your there, at home. The owner had a warm welcome (and some homemade cakes) waiting for us, after a long journey it was just what we needed. The cottage is in a great location for exploring, itâs close to a lot of the visitor attractions, and the beaches on the Hebrides have to be seen to be believed. I love the Hebrides and cannot recommend this cottage highly enough as a base to explore and enjoy what the islands have to offer. I'll be back at the cottage later in the year what more recommendation would you need.

Abhainn's location - roughly equidistant from the town of Stornoway and the golden beaches of Uig - was perfect for me, as it allowed quick access to those two locations. The cottage is immaculate, containing everything one could want in a home away from home. I enjoyed the power shower and the sauna at night after days wandering the wilderness with my camera. Callanish standing stones are just over a mile away: another selling point of abhainn. The cottage has a reliable wi-fi connection, so it's possible to keep in contact with the outside world while enjoying time far away from it. For me, one thing more than any other provides testament to the cottage's comfort: I didn't want to leave.

This cottage is just fabulous and is the most relaxing place to visit. It is a pleasure to stay here and the quality of the furnishings/equipment is excellent. There is attention to detail making this home from home as this was our second visit and we have already booked for 2013. The rooms are generously proportioned and it is easy to facilitate 2 couples without falling over each other.

Stepping into abhainn Cottage, you quickly realise that no expense has been spared to ensure that visitors enjoy a memorable stay on the memorable Isle of Lewis. All rooms have been superbly equipped to add to the luxurious experience and delightful charm of the cottage. Ideally placed to explore both Lewis and Harris, the cottage enjoys very good views of the lochs and the peace and quiet of the island.

We stayed at abhainn Cottage for a long weekend as a birthday treat. The house was beautifully finished, and the open fire was a real bonus! It is immaculately kept, with all the mod-cons and a real luxury feeling to it. The owner was on hand to welcome us, and was always available if needed.
We are from the island but the cottage was perfect for a 'get away weekend'. Its located in a very peaceful area, but is only a short drive from the main town and from several beautiful beaches, so we were able to have the best of both worlds!
I will definitely make a return visit to abhainn Cottage, and be recommending it to our families and friends as a must-visit!!

Abhainn Cottage has been appointed to the highest degree making for an extremely comfortable and cosy getaway cottage. It is sited high enough to have views of the island of Bernera and is situated perfectly for trips to the west coast beaches of Dalmore, Dalbeg, Bosta and Uig. Callanish is a stone's throw away.

LondonA stylish, comfortable cottage in an ideal location for touring
Left on 01/31/2012 for a stay in January 2012
Abhainn Cottage proved to be the perfect choice for our winter trip to Lewis. Spacious, modern, warm and fantastically well-equipped with everything we needed, it was also in a great location near the Callanish stones. The kitchen has all mod cons, a dining table and breakfast bar if you choose to eat in. There's also a jacuzzi in the bath, a sauna in the massive bathroom, Sky TV in all the rooms and a proper fire in the living room. We had no cause to contact David the owner but got the impression that nothing would be too much trouble for him. I would recommend this cottage to anyone. Car hire recommended.

We visited the Isle of Lewis in March 2010 and were delighted with abhainn Cottage. Weâre usually âeconomyâ travellers but because we visited in low season we were able to afford a luxury cottage at a very reasonable price.
The master bedroom with its en-suite spa bathroom is the epitome of luxury. The bed and its linen are sumptuous and the room offers a lovely view out towards the mountains. The bathroom has a plethora of lights which, although at first a tad confusing, created a wonderful ambience when relaxing in the spa bath â which, by the way, is plenty big enough for two!!... as is the rainfall shower!! The little sauna is also a great way to warm up if youâve been caught out in a Hebridean snow shower!!
Although we didnât use the 2nd double bedroom it was of equally high standard as the master, and its en-suite was spacious. The lounge was comfortable and had French doors opening to the garden. The kitchen is well equipped with all mod cons youâd expect and with good quality crockery and glassware.
On a slightly sour note, there was confusion between banks over the whether or not my cheque had cleared, which did somewhat mar the first couple of days. Though I believe plans are in place to accept payments via PayPal in the future?
Overall we enjoyed a superb week on the Isle of Lewis and would not hesitate to visit again and stay in this beautiful cottage. -

This cottage is absolutely stunning and is a must if you are visiting Lewis. The quality of the refurbishment is outstanding with no omissions. The master bathroom is unbelievably wonderful and worth a bottle of champagne whilst in the spa bath. I cannot find anything here to provide negative feedback on and would highly recommend this as a base for exploring the island. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
