Description from the owner

A croft house in Breakish, Isle-of-Skye, suitable for big families and large groups who wish to have a self catering break.

We are sorry to say that we do not accept bookings of less than one week during May, June, July or August.

Situated high above Broadford Bay, our house has magnificent views of the islands of Scalpay, Pabay and Raasay. A short walk from the beach at Ashaig, there are a number of other scenic walks close by.

The west side of the house is dominated by the magnificent 'Beinn Na Cailleach', burial place of the norse princess 'Saucy Mary', from the time when Skye was a colony of Norway.

      Winter Holiday to Skye

Left on 12/17/2012 for a stay in November 2012

My husband organised a 4 night trip to the Isle of Skye for my birthday.

After a long wet and windy drive from Glasgow we arrived at Tigh Eachainn. The house is lovely although probably a little big for only the two of us (there are 9 bedrooms). The house was very clean and we chose to sleep in the largest bedroom at the back of the house which had huge windows viewing out to the garden and beyond.

My husband enjoyed building the fire each night and there were plenty of logs left for us to use so most nights were spent cuddled up next to the fire watching telly. Sky TV is provided and there is also a selection of Dvds, however due to the strong winds some of the TV channels didn’t work. As the house has free wifi and we had brought our laptop we downloaded a couple of movies to watch.

Being out of season we couldn’t find any restaurants open so just cooked in the well equipped kitchen each night. There is a co-op store only a short drive away from the house.

Despite the wild November weather we spent most days out and about Skye, visiting the Spar Cave and the Storr hills (both fantastic days out!) There is plenty to see and do around Skye and the rain normally only lasted 10 minutes before the wind blew the rain clouds away and sunshine came out - typical Scottish weather really!! The house is in a good location for venturing out.

We had a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday to Skye and hope to return again next summer.

Lovely house in a fabulous location

Left on 05/20/2012 for a stay in May 2012

We spent a week here in May and as expected the weather was changeable. Despite the weather we had a great time and that was mostly due to the lovely house we stayed in. We were a group of 3 couples, 1 single and 3 toddlers. The house was even bigger than expected with tons of room even for those with babies sharing bedrooms. Lots of space downstairs so you could either join in the fun & games or take yourself off to a quieter area if you wanted to. All the utilities there so we could dry wet clothes and wash the kids stuff. Location very handy for trips to the mainland and not too far for the boys to get to the Cuillins. I'm sure we will be back again another year. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

      Enjoyable Winter Break

Left on 07/20/2011 for a stay in February 2011

There were five adults in our party and we found that there was plenty of space in he cottage. It was very warm and cosy. We also liked the fact that if you did not want to watch television you could sit in the dining room which adjoined the lounge doing alternative activities and still feel part of the group. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable and there was plenty of space. We particularly liked the large kitchen area. Also there was plenty of space for us all to sit around the television after a hard day's walking.

We went on some really good walks and found that the cottage was a very good base because it is near the main road which gave us easy access to different parts of Skye.

Despite some initial difficulties we were able to gain access to the Internet. The other thing to bear in mind if using the cottage in the winter months is that most of the tourist facilities are closed. We were quite lucky with the weather because although it remained cold (February) it was fairly settled all week with only some light rain which did not deter us from going on some beautiful walks. On the whole we had a brilliant holiday and would certainly recommend this accommodation.

great base for walking and exploring on Skye

Left on 06/24/2011 for a stay in June 2011

The house was ideal for our group (one couple and 5 singles). Kitchen well equipped. Spacious lounge and dining room. Layout of bedrooms downstairs a bit odd - particularly the one off the utility room - but it didn't cause a problem. The single bedrooms were short of storage - probably normally just children's rooms - but again it wasn't a problem for us. The location was good for access to the Cuillin. We also had trips to Sleat and to the Storr, Portree and further north. A beautiful spot too just for looking out of the kitchen window, or going for a stroll on the local beach. The supermarket and filling station at Broadford were handy. We could also get food nearby when we didn't want to cook - the Creelers in Broadford was good, as was Red Skye (although some problems with the service that particular night), which we could walk to. Fish and chips available in Broadford and an Indian restaurant and takeaway near Kyleakin, which was just the ticket when we didn't get back off the mountain till 9 pm!

The most wonderful holiday - what an intorduction to Scotland !!

Left on 02/18/2010 for a stay in August 2009

Really very cosy home with plenty of room ( we were a party of 4 adults and 2 children).
Fantastic location, scenery spectacular especially from the living room window and Kitchen window ( this made doing the dishes a very relaxing experience).
Close to local beach, shops, lovely seafood restaurant and excellent walks. Close drives to many other places on Syke. The visit to Rassay was excellent.
Apparently it rained quite a bit during our stay but I didn’t notice I was too busy enjoying myself and relaxing.
The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves, especially seal spotting.
Will definitely return if I get the opportunity.

fantastic house. family friendly and beautifully situated

Left on 02/14/2010 for a stay in March 2009

Could not have had a better place for a holiday. Amazing views to the Cuillins and the water. Kids loved the toys and play equipment. A maze of rooms to hide in, toys to discover and tranquility for the parents wanting to be away from work.

Only negatives were audio and video equipment did not work, limited TV, no internet connection, no telephone (even for receiving calls or emergency)and no mobile phone coverage during our stay.

Otherwise we enjoyed our stay immensely in an old-fashioned, get away from it all holiday, but convienient for shops (and internet cafe if absolutely necessary!) Close to the skye bridge so mainland tours were an option too.

House was well-equipped, modern and clean and we had a great welcome from the key-holders.

We were able to take the dog and it was fully fenced, with a cattle grid.

We had a great family holiday.

Response from Susan MacInnes - 02/17/2010

      Susan MacInnes

      Owner

Thanks for the largely positive review Becky and David! Just want to comment on the negatives for clarification. The Hi-Fi equipment has always worked without a problem. The video player did break down before your stay, for which apologies. We now just have a DVD player plus Sky + TV (which was in place at the time, so I'm puzzled by the 'limited TV' , unless it was at a time when Sky changed over their viewing card?). Out-going calls are indeed barred on the landline but receiving calls are fine, and we find that O2 and Orange have decent reception. Internet reception? We did have an incident where someone reset our modem without telling the keyholder, so if your week followed that, once again I'm sorry. As someone who depends a lot on the Internet I can understand the frustration this can cause.
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay - but because there were some frustrations, should you wish to return to Tigh Eachainn we would be happy to make a 20% discount on the advertised price for that week.
