Spacious vaulted open plan sitting/dining/kitchen area with wooden floors and wood-burning stove. The glazed wall and doors allow magnificent views of the lovely garden and surrounding area. Hertford, United KingdomFabulous accommodation in a wonderful location
Left on 05/15/2013 for a stay in April 2013
For our first ever visit to Skye I really don't think we could have found better accommodation in a better location! The cottage was very comfortable (and warm!) and equipped with eveything you could possibly need for a family holiday. The views are stunning and our kids loved filling the feeders and watching all the birds. Located a few miles outside Portree, the location was superb for exploring the island. Margaret, the owner, was so welcoming and helpful and there was plenty of literature in the cottage with ideas of places to visit, walks to do and restaurants to try. We all agreed it was one of the best holidays we've had and it was a real wrench to leave Skyehaven!

Back again after a great week in October. We've been going to cottages in the highlands for around 15 years and this is the first one we've ever come back to the same one twice. The cottage has everything you could need and makes for a very relaxing break. See review 28 October for more details. Margaret, the owner, is a star.

Just returned from a fabulous week in Skye staying in Skyehaven. We had a fabulous time there and loved the cottage! From the great location, central for easy access to all the places you may want to visit in Skye, to the facilities available, meaning you don't have to leave at all if you don't want to! From the beautiful views, the books, CDs, Dvds and all of the kitchen facilities available, the cottage really does provide for every need, age group (I loved the famous five CDs, even as a grown up though!), to the hints and tips books that helps you plan what you might want to do during your visit.
To sum up, many people have said can they have first refusal if Margaret the owner decided to sell. We too would put our name down but know we would be on a very long list! Loved it, we'll be back!

Brilliant cottage. Lots of charm, thoughtfully designed, great use of space - particualrly the vaulted ceiling open plan living room & kitchen - with beautul outlook because of the full width window. There is also decking outside to enjoy the views from. Cottage is very well equipped, warm and welcoming. It's a great location too - just outside Portree but the whole island is accessible. Margaret, the owner, was extremely charming and welcoming, and she makes great marmalade!

Taigh na h-aibhne
My wife and I and another couple, who are my lifelong friends, spent a week at this property, also known as Skyehaven, at the end of May this year. The weather throughout our stay was exceptional, long hours of hot sunshine every day, and Taigh na h-aibhne had everything to enable us to flourish in it-an exceptionally well-furnished open plan sitting dining room with panoramic windows offering beautiful views across the fields as far as the Cullins, many miles away in the south of the island, whose peaks were clearly visible almost all the time and particularly attractive in the early morning with the sun behind us. There are attractive walks close by. The property enjoys a sense of cosy isolation but benefits also from being only some five miles north of the pretty harbour and capital, Portree, and its excellent restaurants, shops, petrol pumps, medical facilities, etc.
So, location fabulous! The interior of the modernised croft is both tasteful and complete in its attention to detail. Comfortable sofas and chairs, a large and attractive dining suite, well-equipped kitchen with far more gadgets than we enjoy at home, and all the electronic devices- large screen TV, DVD and CD players and plenty of CDs and Dvds to play on them- as well as lots of books and maps- a wall map we found particularly useful in planning our tours. There were even flowers and wine to greet us! The layout whereby the comfortable and well-furnished ensuite rooms were at either end of the house is ideal.
Finally, there is a sundeck outside which we were able to make good use of, and well-stocked flower beds which thrive well in what I might have expected to be difficult growing conditions.
Don't miss the opportunity to go there and we hope you have "our"weather!

The service was excellent with very clear and helpful communication throughout.
The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable with a huge glass wall giving views of the countryside including the Cuillins.
The location was excellent - 5 mins from Portree where there is a good choice of shops and restaurants but also very handy for Waternish, Dunvegan, Staffin, Old Man of Storr with great opportunities to explore the countryside and the coastline.
Our nephew felt that he would have .iked a bigger TV and perhaps a docking station for an Ipod but as we had great weather for the whole week this was not a particular issue for us on this occasion. -

We have just had our second visit to Margaret's lovely holiday cottage and it never fails to impress us. The house is wonderful with everything you could possibly want or need and the location equally so. We always feel completely at home which makes our time there so relaxing from the moment we step through the door. You are a terrific host Margaret and you always make us feel very welcome. We intend to come back time and again.

We enjoyed a wonderful relaxing Christmas week at Skye Cottage, with plenty of places to visit and plenty to keep ourselves, including our 4 and 7 year-old children, busy indoors too! The cottage was spotless, modern and well-equipped at the same time as comfortable, homely and welcoming and Margaret went out of her way to make sure we were happy. We couldn't fault a single thing!

We can say again: thank you for the fantastic accomodation. We were totally satisfied with all in and outside the house. The view was every day extraordinary beautiful: we have seen rainbows, the cattle passing by, a weasel looking into the house, rabbits eating the garden flowers, a buzzard sitting on a fence and looking out for his hunt. The walkings along the coast and to the Cuillins had enjoyed us very much.
So we were a little bit sad about driving home. But we hope that we could come back.

We had a really nice and relaxing week here. The cottage has everything one could possibly want, one of the best-equipped places we have stayed in. Kitchen equipment and local-interest books were particularly good. Location is ideal whether one wants to go north to Staffin, west to Dunvegan or south to Portree and the mountains. The cottage was a very welcoming place to return to after a day out, and the garden is a nice place to sit out in the evening (if dry).

Left on 06/07/2011 for a stay in June 2011
This was our third visit to this wonderful house and it never fails to disappoint! The location is wonderful as it's isolated enough for privacy but only 5 mins by car to Portree where you'll find shops, bars & supermarkets. From the house, you can explore Skye with relative ease as its never more than 40 mins drive to any other part of the island. The house itself is perfect and accommodates 4 guests very comfortably for a relaxed break. It's filled with all mod-cons and the views from the decking are quite simply stunning. Margaret (the owner) is lovely and her hospitality leaves you wanting to come back to stay again & again. During your stay, you must visit the award-winning, The Three Chimneys for lunch or dinner - food & service outstanding!

We have just returned from a week's holiday on the Isle of Skye when we stayed at Margaret Pyper's lovely holiday home. Whilst the weather was disappointing, the cottage most certainly wasn't and despite wind and rain every day (but mercifully not always all day), we managed to have a good time. It was a delight to return each evening to the comforts and facilities of one's own home with the added bonus of a panoramic view to die for and wild life galore. Without leaving the sofa we saw siskins, goldfinches, chaffinches, hooded crows, buzzards, various gulls, a cuckoo and a golden eagle at close range. I think the quality of the accommodation speaks for itself when so many of its temporary inhabitants choose to return, indeed, we have booked to stay here again later in the year.

We spent two very enjoyable weeks in Taigh na h-aibhne (house by the river) in late September/early October of 2009. If you are looking for total relaxation, this is your ideal destination. Many hours can be spent looking at the panoramic view from the lounge/kitchen diner. This is a very cosy cottage where, if the weather is bad, you will be more than happy to remain inside and not feel you are missing out on anything. I was accompanied by my mother who is disabled and the facilities on offer were perfect for her requirements. An en suite bathroom with a walk in shower suited her needs. I shall remember watching the fishermen on the nearby River Snizort, as well as the hare who skipped down the path each morning to munch on the owner's tasty garden plants! Beautifully relaxing to watch the birds feeding in the garden, while we had breakfast and lunch. The nearby Co-op in Portree has everything you will need and is a 5-minute drive away. The owners are very helpful and allowed for a technophobe like myself, by talking me through the working order of the DVD, over the telephone. Patience indeed!
This is a very special place.Response from Margaret Pyper - 04/07/2011

We had a great week in Skyehaven. It's a very comfortable house in a good location - not far from Portree but in a lovely, quiet setting. It's easy to get around the rest of the island from this central spot.
We had all kinds of weather during our week. It was great to be in the cosy house whilst watching snow blowing horizontally through enormous picture windows! -
