UNIQUENESS. This is the word in dictionary may help you to understand what you would have in this special apartment. When you're looking to the Topkapi Palace and Hagia Sofia directly from balcony, you may dream the greatness of the past with an enjoyment of current time.
We have hosted 334 people in 104 groups from May 2011 in this flat. (April 17th, 2014)
No. 8 is our 6th flat in the same building. Thanks to our experiences with other flats (property ID 191397, 201033, 235758, 245789 and 245790) we reached another level of decoration which is our new guideline. The comfort and enjoyment of the beauty are welcoming you together... in No. 8.
The photos can say what we'd like say mostly. But some description could be helpful too.
Istiklal Street, Asmali Mescit, Galata, Cihangir in walking distance. The touristic attractions of Eminonu, Topkapi Palace, Dolmabahce Palace, Bosphorus tours with ferries, Spice Bazaar, Grand Bazaar, several old hamams, Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia are very easy to access by tram. You may walk those routes which could be fun also.
If you see your days are not available on calendar or if you have a bigger group, please ask for any other rooms, because we have 6 flats in the same place with numbers of capacity for hosting 26 people at the same time.
Want to go to Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace or Grand Bazaar. Get a tram from Tophane after 5 minutes walk.
Would you like to shop? Walk to Galatasaray, Istiklal Street in 5 minutes and get everything you want.
You wanna try a glass of Raki? "Cicek Pasaji - Passage de Fleure", an old and very decorative gallery with full of drink houses, is in 5 minutes walk away. Or you may go to Nevizade Street after there. But take it slow, Raki would make you dizzy. It is our strong and very delicious spirit. It's best in a conversation.
Or you can take Galata area, near the Galata Tower. You may get there in 15 minutes by walking. There are new shops and cafes await you.
What about neighborhood? Cezayir Street, also known French Street is just there. You cannot find anything French, but lots of cafes and restaurants offers variety of courses from Turkish and international cuisine. In the street there are singers playing guitar and sing popular Turkish and English songs in the evening. This ambiance attracts tourists and natives together.
Of course entertainment is not the only thing we have. History begins from our building and street. In Tophane, the old arsenal building, the Mosque of the Admiral Kilic Ali Pasha, Modern Art museum and the new art galleries are some of attractive places you would like to interest.
By following the tram line you can get Galata Bridge, with a great view, some oriental and makes you feel you are in a fairy tale especially in the morning or near to the evening. There are fish restaurants under the bridge or near the ports also. Balik & Ekmek - Fish & Bread would be a good meal.
On the way to the bridge, there are several old churches, which are hundreds of years old.
After the bridge you get Eminonu. This journey takes 20 minutes maximum by walking. Or you can take tram of course. Eminonu is where the Spice Bazaar is. We call it Egyptian Bazaar.
You want more? You will have it.
Go left from Tophane. After 2 tram stop you get Kabatas, where the ferries go to Prince's Islands. Except winter, the islands offer an experience about living in another world in Istanbul, without kaos and crowd of cars. There are 2 type of ferries. Seabuses and ferries. We recommend open ones, because you will have opportunities to feed the seagulls with simit. What is simit? It's a kind of bagel with sesame on it. Very crispy. And the best ones are being baked in our street, Bogazkesen. For islands one day would be enough.
From Kabatas you may take buses to Sariyer, near the edge of Bosphorus. There are several villages after and after with old neighborhoods on the coast with fish restaurants and cafes, and parks to sit near the sea. Ortakoy, Bebek, Emirgan, Yenikoy, Sariyer. Without taking tram, you can walk to Kabatas in 15 minutes, and get a bus to go the villages above.
After Kabatas, it is Dolmabahce, where the last Ottoman Palace is. Very decorative.
We may show you around, if you don't know anything about the neighborhood, when you get here.
So, lots of words to attract your attention.
We have some more space to write something, but why don't you come here to explore the others?

Two 69 year old travelers from N. Cal., stayed 9 days at the end of the season--best of our 6 weeks in Turkey. Much of that "best" are the host couple; some the location; and a tad the good taste of long-departed Pasha Grandfather--the last Ottoman manager of the centuries old cannon foundry just down the hill.
--Starting backwards--when you go to the Perla art gallery, European paintings of 17th century Istanbul show the Ottoman foundry, just down the hill. Grandfather built this building when he ran that. His portrait is in the flat--interesting, with most of the 19th century nudes . . . you can ask the hosts why that's so appropriate.
--This is up winding, picturesque and lively streets. This was fine for us, and only tough if you don't hike, or are taking your weightlifting to and from the flat--then use a taxi (stand is nearby.) While the major shopping is 4 blocks up, within a short walk is excellent filtered coffee, roasted on the premises, across from the by-the-glass wine bar with 50 Turkish varietals. These beverages choices are extremely educational, and well done. Nothing you'd find in a typical tourist area.
Our hosts are well educated, interesting and very kind people, whose eclectic local knowledge is delivered to you in Evrim's hand-written map. So . . . you can ditch your guidebook, take the tram (and connect to the subway and boats) for your tourism, or shopping expeditions. They are straightforward, rather than slick, and will warn you that the Friday-Sat. music scene is audible in your room (which, since it was well sung, was a nice way for me to go to sleep.)
Cons: --While this may be legally a "condo," that hasn't the slick, new construction connotation of N. America. This is a classic building. --Until the day cash flow lets the electric elevator resume, this is a walk-up. that may not be for everyone, but we and other families did fine---Superbe food, from cheap to cutting edge, is close by. You'll lose no weight here.

Very nice, clean flat, located in a perfect place to visit all attractions, with stunning view from the balcony. Beautifull neighbourhood of ancient district, cosy restaurants with life music downstairs (do not disturb).
Very nice, helpful and hospitable hosts.

Our family of 3 recently stayed in this apartment for 8 nights. The apartment was beautiful, comfortable, spacious and had everything we needed, and in a great location. Also perfect for our 7 yr old son, a great place to relax after a big day out exploring Istanbul. Aydin and Evrim were lovely hosts, Aydin met us on our arrival and gave us a tour of the local area, with plenty of useful advice about where to eat, buy groceries, catch transport etc. He also gave us a very helpful map containing lots of useful information about the local area and how to get to the main sites. We loved staying here, eating our breakfast on the balcony overlooking the Bosphorous etc, and would definitely recommend it to anyone. The local area is great, lots of great restaurants and cafes nearby, and far less touristy than the old town, but very easy to get anywhere quickly. It is one of the best apartments we have stayed in on our various travels.

The location of this apartment is superb, only a few steps from Istiklial Caddesi in Beyoglu/Galtasaray. Easy walk or walk plus tram to the amazing historical parts of the city. The quality of its location is surpassed only by the quality of the apartment itself - beautifully appointed rooms with a truly stunning view of Topkapi/Aya Sofia/Blue Mosque across the Golden Horn. Nice kitchen and bathroom, two bedrooms with room for a fifth person in the living room. The quality of the apartment is only surpassed by the truly gracious and helpful hosts, Aydin and Evrim. They were helpful to us throughout our planning and then the trip itself, offering great suggestions for travel plans, other accommodations throughout Turkey, and graciously assisting with our most mundane requests. Perhaps most importantly, we feel we have made friends with aydin and Evrim for life, and hope to see them again either here in the us, back in Turkey, or perhaps another location.

A friend and I stayed at aydin and Evrim's apartment for three nights in June 2013, and were blown away by the warm welcome we received and the amazing atmosphere of Istanbul. Our stay happened to coincide with the protests in Taksim Square and around Turkey, and before we arrived we were worried about our proximity to all the action! But aydin took the time to give us a truthful and detailed explanation of exactly what was happening and how it might affect our stay, and we are very glad we went! The apartment is in a buzzing, interesting part of town, and has so much character and lovely rooms. It was ideally located from our point of view - we recommend it to travelers who want to be where the action is. It was a 30-minute walk to the historical sites, or an extremely quick, easy tram ride. When we arrived, we were given a tour by Evrim and a hand-drawn map showing all the local amenities and recommendations that became our bible for the trip! Aydin and Evrim were really the perfect hosts, available at any time or day.

We stayed at aydin's apartment for a week, and had a fantastic time. The apartment is a great size for three or four people, the atmosphere of the neighbourhood was great, and our host was fantastic. When we arrived aydin had a great map for us showing recommended local places to eat and see.

The flat is beautiful, tidy an has an awesome view. It is located very central. It took us a few days, though, until we understood, which key opens which door - there are many :)
Evrim and aydin are very kind and helpful - on our first day they gave us a really cute streetmap (they have drawn themselve) which also recommended a few restaurants nearby.
If you are sensitive you should probably pack some earplugs, because of the mosques in the area.
I enjoyed every single day in this beautiful city and I would stay again at Evrim's and aydin's.

We recently had the pleasure of staying in this charming apartment for 12 days. After a day of sightseeing it was great to come home & relax in a comfortable, tastefully decorated space with stunning views and ample room for our three children--two teenagers, and a five year old. Aydin was a wonderful host, making himself available to answer all our questions, and to give us a map and excellent information about the neighborhood. It was extremely easy to get to all the major sights in the old city, and fun to wander around our neighborhood. Yes, it's noisy on weekends, but then Istanbullis know how to have a good time! Bring your earplugs if you like to go to sleep early on weekends.

If one is looking for a spacious and charming place which has the comfort of today and the good things of the past this is a very good choice. As others have written before the stairs in the appartment house are nothing for unfit people. Istanbul needs fitness anyway, it is not a beach holiday. The owners are especially nice people and will win the heart of every guest. They are extremly helpful and aydin showed us around so we knew our way. The balcony was a real retreat in the appartment. The Frenchstreet which is located on the side where the living and diningroom is located was not as noisy as we expected. But we stayed within the week, so weekends can be louder. The live guitarplaying was actually nice and added atmosphere. The appartment is really very nice both No 6 and No 8 we stayed in both. For people with a sense for charm and art like historic doors etc this is a very good choice. The location is convinient, taxis close and streetcar not far to walk to. We recommend for breakfast the cookschool restaurant which is 4 minutes walk down the hill. Aydin knows. I wish everybody who chooses to stay with aydin and Evrim a wonderful time in their place and in Istanbul. Susanne from switzerland

We stay 1 week in January .The apartment was exactly as described by aydin, very very clean and very well decorated, a lovely mixture of antique and contemporary furniture, wooden floor and lot of light inside due to large windows. From master bedroom's windows you'll have an amazing view of Sultanhamet, much more better than that one you can guess from video published by aydin!Wifi is a great bonus if you have adolescents in your family!
Location is also great :Tophane tramway stop is 5 minutes walking distance ,from there you can move around very easily to the most important places you would like to visit.Istiklal Caddesi with its shops, cafè and restaurants is also very close.
Aydin and Evrim were very hospitable and helpful at all times. As soon as we arrived Evrim gave us a tour around the neighborhood ,a great introduction to the local area. When we booked , Aydin advised us about noise and loud music coming from above restaurant so we arrived equipped with many earplugs but sincerly we didn't use them because music didn't disturb our sleep.
Thank you very much aydin and Evrim, we could not have made a better choice and we spent great days in your flat, surely we'll come back!
Wonderful, clean apartment; great location

We stayed in #8 for nine days in November. The apartment was exactly as advertised - very clean, spacious, and well-decorated. The location is also very good: a 3 minute walk up to Istiklal street (and tons of food options) and a 5 minute walk down to the Tophane tram stop. Plenty of small shops and grocery stores around for quick purchases.
The main bedroom, dining and living area were very nice. The kitchen was small (two small refrigerators and no microwave) with basic cooking utensils including a french press coffee maker and plenty of plates and cutlery. The second bedroom was smaller with two single beds.
The apartment is five flights up from the bottom of the building - or three flights up from the other side. The building does have an elevator that can help part-way.
The owner was very helpful with advice. We enjoyed his orientation walk. He provides his own maps of the area which are quite good.
As the owner describes, there is a fair amount music and noise, though we found not just on the weekends. But as long as you expect it, it's not a surprise and easy to get used to. We looked at it as free entertainment in the evenings. The sounds were loud, but they were nothing that kept us from sleeping.
The only negative: upon our arrival, the owner was not there to meet us. (He told us to ring the doorbell of his office, which we did, but there was nobody there.) After a long, tiring trip, that was last thing we expected to have to worry about. I found someone with a cellphone nearby and asked him to call the owner. The owner arrived 5-10 minutes after that.
Not a huge deal, since other than that the whole stay was wonderful.
Fantastic location, view and apartment!

I stayed in this flat from June 1-9, 2012 and I can't think of a better decision!
Not only the flat was gorgeous, full of character, clean, comfortable, and perfect in size, but its location was very convenient.
You can walk to many interesting places and the surrounding streets are beautiful and full of nice restaurants and antique shops. Tophane tram station is also walking distance and from there you can move around very easily to the most important places you would like to visit.
The money you pay for all the benefits you get is more than fair, plus you get nice little details in the apartments that make you feel super comfortable and happy. Our apartment had a perfect little balcony with great views of Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque. Plus we had a huge flat TV with different movies to choose from, Istanbul guides and a full equipped kitchen.
Last but not least, what makes the difference in your stay here are the owners, Evrim and aydin. You have never met such warm hosts! They are open, kind, friendly, helpful... They will be there for answering all your questions and concerns, they will give you the best advice they can and if they don't have the information about anything you ask them, they will immediately search for answers and will go out their way to find useful information. They have a map they draw themselves of the neighbourhood that helps you navigate the surrounding areas brilliantly. Plus they are fun and they have the greatest conversations you can imagine... You will leave wanting to be friends with both of them.
Many hugs to you Evrim and aydin, I hope everything is going excellent in your side of the world!

We had an amazing weekend in Istanbul, celebrating Birthdays. The apartment is really central, very clean and very comfortable, we felt really at home. The view is amazing, the restaurants on the dorrstep are too.
Evrim and aydin are wonderful, very relaxed and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble.
Evrim's map of the local area is a piece of art, but unlike most art is very useful!

The hosts... Aydin and Evrim, are simply among the greatest guesthouses and flats hosts we have come to meet throughout the years and the travels we did. The first impression stays: accessible, available, warm and welcoming, all ears to your comments and questions. The kind of people you wish to be friends with. This is the impression we had without even having seen the flat itself...
The flat... Astonishing. Decorated with great tastes and antiques from Istanbul, having close to all comodities you would need (especially for a young family, as we have a 2 yrs old daughter). Nice living room, perfect dining room, and an awesome view on Sultanhamet from the main bedroom balcony. Comfortable, fully functional, AC working perfectly, close to perfection!
The only "negative" thing we could find to say if we dig deep is the noise and music of the surroundings. Lots of bars and restaurants with live and loud music, but honestly, we have not been bothered that much (close to none) by this. With aC on, windows closed, no problem. After all, we have been seduced by the liveliness of Beyoglu and Galatasaray!
Great stay we recommend to everyone. We'll definitely go back there if we travel back to Turkey!

This apartment is so lovely and the hosts could not have been nicer or more helpful. The area is so amazing - off of Faik Pasa, so many little restaurants, boutique shops, great breakfast spots. We enjoyed the live music through the windows at night and had no problem sleeping - if you're a light sleeper, bring some earplugs and you'll be 110% fine! I didn't even need them most nights. The view is incredible from the balcony and it was so great being close to everything. We want to thank our hosts for their hospitality and for giving us such a great welcome to Istanbul...what an amazing city!!!

What a beautiful flat, so comfortable and spotlessly clean! We were in the best spot we could have been to explore the area and the atmosphere in the surrounding streets was amazing at night. The noise was not a problem for us at all and just added to the great atmosphere of the area. Having breakfast on the balcony with that incredible view everyday just totally made our stay..

The flat is very clean and well kept, cosy feeling but with plenty of space for four people. We didn't use the kitchen much, but it had all the appliances and accessories you could want. The balcony is adorable with a great view; it's a very nice place to have coffee in the morning or wine in the evening.
Aid?n and his wife are a gracious hosts, helping out with recommendations and a tour of the neighborhood. He was also very responsive to email questions while we were there. We especially liked having breakfast in the Cihangir neighborhood nearby (Kahve 6 is fantastic).
We had no problem walking across the Galata Bridge every day to see the Old Town / Sultanahmet sites, it took about 20 to 25 minutes. The tram was right there if we got too tired to walk home.
The area is teeming with nightlife, right outside the front door (or even up the stairs!). This is an ideal place for someone looking to have fun evenings and nights in addition to fun days in Istanbul. One negative to the nearby clubs and restaurants is that the living and dining rooms would get noticeably smoky from cigarettes in the late evenings, but the bedrooms could be closed off to this.
Thank you for a pleasant stay...hope to see you again!

Our stay here for 8 nights at the end of march 2012 was a very pleasant one indeed. The rental is accurately described as on the site and was more than adequate for the 2 of us. The living, dining, kitchen and bedrooms were spacious though we felt that the bathroom was a little on the smaller side. Having said that it was clean and in a very presentable condition so we couldn't really fault it. The view of the old city from the bedrooom balcony was certainly a bonus.
The apartment is very conveniently located within a few minutes walking distance to the tramway as well as the main istiklaal street leading up towards taksim square. There are an array of nice boutique restaurants, cafes and bars in the area. Just be mindful that due its close vicinity to the aformentioned, it is not unusual to have music playing up until the early hours during the weekends.
The owners (aydin and evrim) are very friendly & courteous and were always happy to help us out on the many occasions we required assistance (which was mostly to act as a translator on the phone). The guided tour on arrival was very helpful together with the map provided in the event we ever managed to lose our way.
We would happily recommend this place to anyone considering visiting the wonderful city of istanbul and were seeking alternative accommodation to a hotel.

Amazing views of Topkapi Palace, Aya Sofia, & the Blue Mosque from the balcony. That alone makes the apartment a great rental. Then add the personal service from the aydin and his wife - airport pickup service, guided neighborhood tour, and they're always available to help with directions, advice and translation. We loved the location - 8 min. walk downhill to the tram and a 5 min walk uphill to Istiklal street.
The apartment is quite roomy - the master bedroom is large, and there is a full dining room and living room. The bathroom, however, is small.
Note that the apartment is in an areas with bars & music that goes quite late on the weekends. Bring earplugs or headphones if you're not a night owl (my wife and I did this and slept fine).
We've never given such high rating to an apartment rental -- though we've never had the kind of great service that aydin and his wife provided - and all no cost, even though we offered to pay several times.

This flat is worth booking for the view alone. The Bosphorus, Golden Horn, Galata Tower, Blue Mosque, Ayah Sofya and Topkapi Palace plus some of the 'real' Istanbul inbetween - fantastic.
We had been warned at time of booking and when we arrived it would be noisy, and it is - the street of the purple tulip is vibrant - but not enough to keep us awake after a day of energetic sight-seeing. The flat was really central, so we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go (maybe not everyone's choice, so good that the tram stop was close).
Aydin and Evrim were very hospitable and helpful at all times, from initial booking and the great introduction to the local area that Evrim gave us, till we sadly had to leave.
The flat is beautifully decorated - a lovely mixture of antique and contemporary furniture - and having wifi is a great bonus.

The apartment was spacious, comfortable, clean with tasteful decorations. The only minor problem may be it can get quite noise during the weekend since there is restaurant right above the apartment.

We were a family of four with two grown up boys. There was room enough for everyone to spread out and relax. The flat and furnishings were very clean. The kitchen was well equipped. As promised, the linen was changed and the garbage collected on schedule. The flat is very conveniently located -- just a few minutes walk from both the tramway and the happening Istiklal Street. After a day of touring the city, you can rest in the flat and then walk up to Istiklal to enjoy the nightlife. The flat overlooks a lively street with several cafes with live music all around. The view of Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sofiya and the Blue Mosque from the small balcony of the flat -- especially at night -- is magical. There are a number of grocers, a couple of laundries,a bakery and a taxi-stand nearby. The landlord, Aydin Balcik, settled us in by giving us a quick tour of the area on arrival introducing us to Istiklal Street, its cafes, bars and restaurants -- recommending the ones which we might like to use. His reccommendations were spot on. Aydin and his wife Evrim helped us plan our day tours and provided us with ferry timings and maps. The restaurant above the flat has live music and gives a 10 per cent discount to aydin's guests. Aydin and his wife went out their way to make our stay comfortable. We would love to come back.

We where there for 2 weeks with our adult/married children. We loved the place! It was very clean and nice. The owners were extremely nice and helpful to us. They went above and beyond their call of duty to help us, whenever we had any needs. Istanbul was as historical and beautiful and we had heard, but the good owners of this property were the extra blessings we had not expected. The apartment was in the middle of the town with lots of restaurants and entertainment around and within the walking distance. The apartment was in the middle of what they called "old city” with all the bells and vassals that come with it. It was a great experience and we loved it! Many thank to Eyden and his wonderful wife for making it a great vacation for us.

We loved our stay in here in Istanbul. The landlord and his wife were wonderful! They helped us out very much while we were there and I truly felt welcome! The apartment was very nice and clean. The view was spectaculor. We could see all of Istanbul out our window. There are several restraunts and shops within walking distance. It can be a little loud in the apartment due to the music from the restraunts but we got use to it and it wasnt that bad. This place is great and if we ever return to Istanbul we will definetly stay here again. You can't beat it!
