The location is unbeatable 5 minutes to Istiklal the modern city center, 50 meters walk and 5 minutes tram ride to historical district of Sultanahmet. Location is very centrall. Metro is 5 min by walking which you can reach many side of istanbul.

  Ismail's 4 story building has 4 apartments (1 per floor). I stayed on the 2nd floor apartment with 3 friends for a little more than a week. Contacting Ismail (owner) via email was very easy. There was a slight language barrier, and although he responded with short emails that didn't exactly answer all my questions, they got to the point and were very prompt. After training it in from ataturk we finally arrived at our meeting point (his restaurant) and he gave us two sets of keys and walked us to the apartment. After that we barely saw him, which was expected. If we needed anything we walked a short distance to his restaurant where he or his co workers would be of assistance. The location couldn't be better. If you every have trouble finding the building just look up and head towards Galata Tower. The apartment is literally 100m or less around the corner from the base of the tower. The location is no doubt the best. Steps from the Galata tower, boutique stores, local restaurants, cafes, about a block above the tram into Sultanahmet or Kabatas and just below Taxim. The location allowed easy access to all major public transportation systems.
  
  Now the apartment… The building is old and small (but recently renovated) complete with a very petite winding staircase with small marble steps (it is not handicap accessible). The second floor apartment looks just like the pictures. Open the door theres a small entry, off to the right is the small kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with a double size bed. On the left side is the living room with a sofa that sleeps 1 person, and an extra bed that Ismail had graciously provided. Remember this is an apartment not a hotel that provides daily services. We were given a towel and a roll of toilet paper when we arrived. It would be wise to bring your own towels, soap/shampoo and a couple of toilet paper rolls as we did. The 2nd floor apartment had a view to the street and neighbors in the back, but if you walk upstairs there is a terrace with an amazing panoramic views of Istanbul. Its absolutely stunning. So yes, the apartment was clean, looked new, smelled nice, and size wise i would compare it to a NYC 1 bedroom. The apartment is very very nice for the price.
  
  Of the entire week we were living in the apartment I only had one issue. Mid-week there was no water for about 24hrs. There was also times when the water pressure was on the fritz or seemed low, and the hot water takes a few moments to heat up. But these things (not the 'no water') are expected when dealing with buildings with old bones. And for those of you who are OCD you may want to take note; the living room and bedroom is somewhat poorly lit, and the Wifi connection is spotty. Connection was best in the living room so I assume the router was on ground level beneath us. If you can't survive without Wifi, apartment 2 is your best friend.
  
  Even though there were some tiny glitches I would still definitely recommend staying here!
