FloridaBest Place to stay in Rome!
Left on 05/16/2013 for a stay in May 2013
After traveling to 3 other places in europe.. The Gioia House was our next and Favorite Stop by far.
It was definitely very comfortable for 4 people- big living room area, very comfortable kitchen and spacious bedrooms! The back porch area is also very pretty and nice for an outdoor dinner when the weather permits.
Ricardo and Serena were very attentive to our needs and the apartment had many options, guides and suggestions for Rome on a bookshelf -- that was very helpful!
The apartment was so comfortable that there were days where we didn't want to leave. Also, the metro is very close to the apt building and just a few stops away from all the fountains and main sites. The apt is also located in a great neighborhood- (Cafe E Vino downstairs is awesome for breakfast or wine to end your evening!)
We absolutely enjoyed this apartment... Especially Ricardo and Serena's accommodation to our schedule, attention to every detail and thoughtfulness! Would definitely stay there again and would recommend to anyone!

We had a very pleasant stay in Gioia House. It is very well equiped and its location was perfect: in a quiet neighbourhood and subway only 2 minutes away. The subway takes you in 5 minutes to Vatican City and 10 to the Spanish Steps.
The hosts are very helpful. They even arranged football tickets for the Serie a!
Many shops and restaurants are near Gioia House.
We really recommand this place!Response from Riccardo - 05/17/2013

Hi, nothing to fault here and all to recommend.
Riccardo and Serena's communcations leading to and during the rental were exemplary. They even met us on arrival, bearing in mind they have a baby and it had already gone past midnight.
They also helped me out with the logistics of obtaining a pair of surprise opera tickets for my girlfriend, which they even wrapped up especially.
The apartment is more than ample and is fully equipped and everything works fine. Riccardo and Serena have ensured it has everything you need.
The location is fine, the neighbourhood appears safe and there are some characterful shops within just a couple of minutes walk.
As others have also commented, it's a quick metro ride into town. In fact after a couple of days we noted that there is a more pleasant route into town if you are not in a rush - using the same pass for the metro - bus 46 takes you straight into Piazza Venezia.
You will feel welcome in the apartment and before you know it you have a characterful place to stay - anonymous it is not even being discreetly housed within a larger residential building off a quiet street. Being away from the centre is I would say an advantage and gives you the feeling of staying in an authentically Roman environment rather than say in a more expected capital city setting.
All in all, heartly recommended.
Cheers.Response from Riccardo - 04/30/2013

thank you very much to Jagmel and his girlfriend for their wonderful review!
They are very nice guests, it was beautiful having them in our house.
Clean, gentle, I absolutely recommend them to every host.
Communication was perfect, and it was a great pleasure partecipate to the wonderful surprise he prepared to his girlfriend.
even their plane landed late in the night, Jagmel did his best to arrive as soon as he could in the house.
thank you very much again!

Stayed in this apartment for 3 nights. Very impressive homely accommodation. Great attention to detail with a kind caring touch which reflects the characters of owners Ricardo and Serena. They were both very helpful in answering any queries we had. Location is set in a pleasant neighbourhood outside the city centre. An excellent coffee shop and eaterie is just beside the appartment complex.Metro station is a few minutes walk away. Centre of Rome is only 10 mins away by Metro. We would highly recommend the apartment as a great place to stay to see this wonderful city.

ezeGreat place to stay to experience Rome
Left on 11/06/2012 for a stay in November 2012
We have just visited Rome for the first time and had a wonderful experience. My husband & I, along with our 2 children (11 & 8 yrs) stayed in Gioia House and felt we were home from home. Our hosts Serena & Riccardo were just great, they organised taxis to & from the airport, were waiting for us and advised us on how best to make use of our 5 days in Rome. Gioia House is very comfortable and spacious, so after a long day of doing sightseeing it was nice that we had a lovely haven to return to. Located minutes away from the Cornelia metro you can get to the Vatican stop in 5 mins, centre Rome in 15-20mins. Even though we were tourists & don't speak italian, the neighbourhood let us feel native... lots of shops, cafes, restaurants (Joseph'sRestaurant is a must visit) and gelato parlours within a very short walking distant but not charging tourist prices, Gioia House truly lets you enjoy a Roman holiday. We loved it and highly recommend it!

We stayed at Gioia House on the recommendation of fellow travelers we met in Florence who had stayed. We were not disappointed, in fact, it was far more than we had ever expected. We loved the location and found getting anywhere was extremely easy on the metro which is very close by. There are markets close by for groceries and any thing else you need. Serena and Riccardo were wonderful and Serena gave the best directions and helpful information for everything, right down to exact details of how to easily find Gioia House on arrival at the train station and how to get to the airport when we left. The owner of the restaurant next door (sorry I forgot his name) was fantastic and so friendly. He didn't speak a word of english but tried his hardest to communicate and we had so much fun. We have told all our friends and family about it and should any of them find themselves in Rome I know they will be wanting to stay there. Thank you so much for helping make our stay in Rome a fantastic experience.

The owners greeted us on arrival and were very friendly and helpful. They provided a brochure on services available eg metro, shops, restaurnaants, as well as house keeping details that would make our stay trouble free. The apartment was gorgeous and beautifully furnished with a gorgeous courtyatd that we made full use of.
The metro was a few minutes walk and enabled easy access to the major tourist sites. We would certainly rent it again.Response from Riccardo - 10/05/2012

My husband and I stayed at the Gioia House for our first trip to Rome and we loved it! The apartment has lots of room (plenty for two people) with very comfortable accommodations. We loved the area and spent most of a morning just wondering around and checking out the shops. Not a supper touristy area but you are close to a metro and not far at all from all the main attractions. The restaurants in the area were very good an most folks were able to communicate with us in better English than we could with them in Italian. I highly recommend this place and I look forward to staying there again when we come back!

We have just returned from a short stay in a beautiful apartment conveniently situated in the Vatican area of Rome. The owners were most helpful at all stages - giving us clear instruction about public transport etc and greeted us on arrival to show us around the apartment.
It was only a short walk to the Metro or to the regional bus station, and there were local shops and restaurants to supply all of our needs. I would certainly recommend Gioia House to any friends looking for a nice place to stay in RomeResponse from Riccardo - 09/17/2012

BerlinGreat apartment in neighborhood-y Rome
Left on 09/05/2012 for a stay in August 2012
The Gioia House is a bit of a ride away from the center of Rome and its attractions, and I'd say that's a good thing. It can be very tiring in the downtown bustle, and having a quiet neighborhood to come back to is nice. Staying at Gioia you have great access to grocery shopping, as well as restaurants and take-aways frequented by locals where you can get better food for less money than in more touristy areas. The apartment itself is also nice, with a private patio and big sitting room. Mattress in the main bedroom was a bit soft for my taste, but others might like that.

Consigliamo vivamente Gioia house a chiunque voglia visitare Roma.

We spent a very good time in this apartment.
Clean, pleasant, well ordered, and especially air-conditioned, what was indispensable because of the strong hot season.
2 negative points, the bed of the big bedroom was uncomfortable because too old and we would have preferred to be situated closer by the historic center (for example of coliseum) to be able to come back for lunch.
Serena and Riccardo are very kind, welcoming persons and communication is excellent.
Thanks to you 2.

Hi Corinne,
We are sorry that the bed was uncomfortable,we are going to change the mattress, but for which regards the bed, is antique and respects the style of all the house.
Thank you for beeing our guests, I hope you stayed well anyway and you have enjoyed Rome and all it offers.
You were perfect guest, gentle, clean and it was a pleasure for us;
I hope you had a nice travel back,

Ricardo and especially Serena are perfect hosts.Even before we arrived we got on mail all the informations we asked for and in the flat is all kind of brochure a tourist could need. The flat is comfortable and has a nice big bathroom and a good kitchen so we felt immidiately at home. Boccia is a buzy location with everything nearby, but the flat is luckely placed in quiet surroundings. And very easy and fast to come to heart of Rome.

Williamsburg, VAFamily Joy at Gioia House
Left on 04/18/2012 for a stay in April 2012
Riccardo and Serena made our stay at Gioia House an excellent experience from the moment we booked the apartment. As soon as I told Serena that our daughter's boyfriend would be proposing to her in Rome Serena sent us a narrative of the custom young Roman men follow when proposing along with a list of sites and restaurants for the event.
All concerns and questions we answered up front so we knew exactly what to expect. The home was very comfortable for the 5 of us and had everything we needed for the week. Riccardo met us there and made sure we understood how everything worked and where to find things. They have an "apartment manual" which explains how to run the washing machine and dishwasher along with where to shop for food, find restaurants, etc.
We found the location to be excellent. It is just the right distance from the center of Rome so that you are away from the other tourists and in the heart of where locals live. The bus and metro service are very close and convenient. If staying for the week be sure to get the week transportation pass and you can travel absolutely anywhere in Rome on that one pass.
I loved the warmth I felt from Serena as we emailed back and forth prior to our stay and Riccardo eminated that same warmth when we met him face to face. They responded promptly to any of our questions while we were there too.
If we return to Rome we would not hesitate to book Gioia House again. Also, the little pizza place just a few doors down from the Gioia House is the best we found in Rome! And I loved the butcher/cheese shop that is close to the bus stop in Cornelia. It was a great place to purchase the items we needed for our meals each night. A Simply grocery store is also very close by.
Oh and yes - Brian proposed to Emily our first night in Rome and she said yes. Serena also let us know that she is pregnant with their first child! Obviously Gioia House is appropriately named.Response from Riccardo - 04/19/2012

Dear Donna,
It was a real pleasure for myself and Riccardo, having your family as guests in Gioia house!
Rather, I am sorry I haven’t met you personally, but Riccardo has done for me.
I had many relatives coming from Sicily for Easter holidays, and I was very busy J
I am happy that my information were helpful, myself and Riccardo travel a lot and we know how is important to have info from local people, especially if you are visiting a big city as Rome!
What a good news you gave me about your daughter! I didn’t ask you for not being to … intrusive, and I am so happy to hear it for you and your family!
Gioia house will bring you luck as it did with myself and Riccardo; when we met, 10 years ago… we decide to buy this house the first time we have seen it, we really fell in love! And we have spent there 9 happy years of our life!
Good luck for everything to you and your family, thanks formyour nice words and … see you soon!

we stayed here first week feb 2012,Ricardo and Serena have gone out of their way to ensure your stay is relaxing. The apartment is well situated for the metro line, less than 5 min walk away. The neighbourhood is more typical of where the locals live and as such the restaurants and shops are not as overpriced as in the tourist traps. The apartment itself provides excellent value for money and would be best suited to 2 couples sharing or a couple with one or two children. The accommodation is stylish, and much thought has been given to the finishes, the photographs give a very accurate feel for the standard of the accomodation .We will stay here again when next in Rome and have no hesitation of reccomending this apartment,Ricardo and Serena are most welcoming and able to assist with any details you need to make your holiday memorable. So stop searching the net for something else and give them a call.

My husband, 3mth old daughter and I stayed at Gioia House for ten days and found it to fit our needs perfectly. It's a spacious apartment with a beautiful patio area, completely outfitted with a full kitchen. The location is in a busy Roman neighbourhood off the tourist track, which we loved, and had tons of restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, etc. It is well connected by transit, with the metro and a bus terminal very nearby which can take you to all the tourist areas. Riccardo and Serena, the owners, were friendly, accommodating and very responsive to our needs. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a true Roman experience away from the tourist menus and touts that fill centre Rome. Loved it!
