We visited with my sister, her husband and her kids who took the other villa on the estate. This gave us a completely private holiday and it was perfect. It was our second holiday as a complete family and we will definitely be going back again. The villas are well equipped and , given the weather, spacious enough to let all of us be with whomever we wanted to be with or on our own.
When we were there it was quite windy but the villas are designed to shelter you from the wind when you are on the terrace or veranda.
My sister has been for four consecutive years and tells me that even if you are there with another family the pools are laid out to give you a perfectly private experience.
The whole thing is like a little slice of heaven.
The family who own the villas are around most days to water the fruit trees that surround you and you are encouraged to help yourselves to help yourselves to the fruit. They also seem to check the pool on an almost daily basis. They are friendly and welcoming and can not do enough to help. My nine year old daughter is still in contact with one of the sisters via email and cannot wait to be back and helping with the swimming pool!
The villas are close to the town, but you will need to hire a car to get there. This also allows you to explore the island and particularly the beaches. When you get back from swimming in the Med all day, jumping into the pool is like being bathed in mineral water, my second favourite holiday experience to taking off ski boots. Apart from the obvious!

Fig trees, olive trees, vineyards around you, direct view to the sea, nature all over, it really can´t be better. And i have rarly seen that kind of hospitality, Katerina organised everything for us before our arrival, and there Sofia was always a big help when we needed something.
The house has everything you need, very well equipped, the highlights is the huge terrace with a view on this overwhelming scenery, and for sure the private pool surroundes by cypress trees.
If you search for the perfect getaway place you won´t be disappointed here. I can´t imagine where to find a calmer and more relaxing place than here. The island itself is as well very beautiful, small, but still with a good infrastructure and a lot of places and beaches to visit. Vathy is close, just 5 minutes by car, some 20 minutes by walk, where you can find a lot of nice restaurants and bars, but often enough you don´t want to leave the estate, we often preferred the BBQ in the garden (at a great stone griller) with the fresh fish you can by from the local fishermen.
We spent some wonderful weeks here, and definitely it hasn´t been the last time we visited ithaca and the pippou family! -

Abbiamo trascorso 3 settimane in questa villetta deliziosa.La casa è spaziosa e fresca, dotata di tutti i comfort, compresa un'efficiente aria condizionata separata per le due stanze e la zona living. Pulizia eccellente ed effettuata con discrezione negli orari in cui non eravamo in casa. La villetta è inserita in un giardino magnifico a disposizione degli ospiti. Ha una bella vista sul mare. E' una meraviglia osservare dall'ampia terrazza panoramica l'ingresso in porto dei lussuosi yacht a vela nelle giornate di vento. La piscina per noi quattro era più che sufficiente ed anche questa è pulitissima, perchè accudita 3 volte a settimana da Sofia, una delle padrone di casa. Non finirò mai di ringraziare Sofia per la sua squisita gentilezza, dolcezza, disponibilità e discrezione. La casa garantisce molta privacy e Itaca offre un'atmosfera da Portofino anni '60. Molto chic. Mi piacerebbe tornare in primavera. Itaca è un incanto.

Close to Vathi and well accessible, the Cave of the Nymphs Estate is in a mystic surrounding, a magical garden with fig trees (the best figs, we ever ate), olive groves and vineyards, view to two bays of the ionian sea and up to the mountains, a unique privacy and tranquility, that relocated us to the times of Odysseus and Homer. The equipment of the houses and the swimming pools offered all conveniences and comfort. Mrs Pippou is very friendly, helpful and very well informed. We spent a wonderful, happy and untroubled time , within this island of homeric beauteousness and repose.

Some people might be put off staying on an island without direct flights but Katerina organises everything for you . We were met at Kefalonia airport by our taxi driver who took us to the port to catch the ferry, not only that but he took us to the office and helped buy the ferry tickets, nothing was too much trouble. We were met off the ferry by Katerina and escorted to our villa at the Cave of The Nymphs estate, only 5 minutes away. The villa was spacious and immaculate and we had groceries organised and waiting for us as well as red wine, olive oil and fresh figs from the estate. The views were absolutely stunning, no words can describe the scenery as the estate is situated up in the hills and you can see for miles. Add in blue skies, warm sea and sunshine everyday and we wished we had gone for more than a week. The villa is well equiped and it was useful to use the washing mashine and washing line as we only took hand luggage. Outside, the villa has a lovely pool, big enough to do a few strokes and great to cool off in and the grounds are nice for a stroll. Lots of beaches to choose from on Ithaca but we only ventured as far as Dexia about 5 minutes away by car and despite it being august not crowded but with shade, a beach bar and warm clear blue sea. Don't forget to take sea shoes as there are sea urchins but we didn't see any in the main beach area. Katerina and Sophia (her sister) were only a phone call away if we needed to ask anything. There are plenty of local shops and good restaurants to choose from and we even had a BBQ one evening. A hire car is very useful to explore the island and the local traffic is very considerate probably due to the roads being quite narrow and winding. All too quickly our holiday came to an end and the return journey was again organised for us with the same friendly taxi driver meeting us at the port and driving us to the airport. We hope to be able to return to Ithaca again, this was definitely a holiday to remember.

I'm loathe to say just how good this was for fear of not being able to book in again!
Pre-booking through Katerina was great, she was really helpful and very supportive. She arranged taxi from the airport and for her sister to meet us on arrival and take us to the villa.
The Villa itself has a wonderful view over the bay and I have to say the publicity photos do not really do it justice (I'll keep it on my screen saver for some time to come!). We had one of our most memorable holiday experiences and I have travelled widely throughout Europe and other areas of the world. The pool is great and the villa very comfortable. It's a bit of a walk to town and a car, I would say is essential, though mainly because the rest of the island is well worth exploring.
Ithaca is how I remember Greece 30 years ago and it was a joy to return. If it is a quiet get away retreat with the chance to do some exploring, I can also recommend the snorkelling, then this is your place.
The only thing I can say is to try and arrange your flight to meet the mid-afternoon ferry from Sami, on Kefalonia, to Ithaca, otherwise its the 23.30 ferry and quite a wait in Sami. However, Katerina arranged for our bags to be stored and we had a very pleasant stroll , meal and watched the sun go down.
A wonderful holiday and we would love to go back. -

Cave of the Nymphs è una splendida proprietà a pochi minuti dal capoluogo con un bel panorama sulle colline e sul mare di Itaca. La casa è graziosa e confortevole e dalla piscina si gode dello splendido panorama.
Siamo stati accolti e assistiti per tutto il soggiorno, con calore e professionalità, dalla bravissima e simpatica Sofia, la cui discreta presenza e gentilezza ci ha fatto sentire sempre come a casa nostra.
Unico problema: la casa e la piscina erano talmente confortevoli che dovevamo faticare per convincere i bambini a visitare l'isola!
Cave of the Nymphs is a beautiful property, just few minutes from the town, with a beautiful view over the sea and hills of Ithaca. The house is lovely and comfortable and from the pool you can enjoy the splendid view.
We were welcomed and cared for throughout our stay, with warmth and professionalism, by the friendly and talented Sofia, whose discreet presence and kindness made ??us always feel at home.
The only problem we had is that the house and the pool were so comfortable that we had to work hard to convince children to visit the island!

We enjoyed a week at cave of the nymphs at the end of September. The weather wasn't great every day but it gave us the opportunity to explore Ithaka a bit. We only hired a car for one day but if you have children or don't like walking, you will need a car for this house.
The best thing about this house were the owners (although the house is great!) They are such a lovely welcoming family, who came to check the pool each day and even came to dinner with us one night! They made us feel incredibly welcome. If you like somewhere peaceful with your own space, in a beautiful setting but with everything you need, I'd thoroughly recommend staying here. -

We had a wonderful time. The children loved the pool and we loved the surrounding views and peacefulness of the estate. Katerina and her family went out of their way to make our stay special. I love the fact that we could go and pick the warm figs straight from the trees, yummy. Vathy was conveniently close by and we visited the tavernas and restaurants most evenings. The island is small enough to visit the whole place during your stay so I would recommend hiring a car. We tried some walks in the evening but it was very hot, I would love to come back in the spring and do some more walking. Recommend bringing binoculars because of the many birds of prey around to watch. The olive oil we took home (from the estate) was the best I've ever tasted and the wine really puts hairs on your chest(!) - drink with caution!!! All in all - outstanding. Thank you.

We had a lovely week at the cave of the nymphs estate. The location is perfect, fantastic view from the pool, set in a lovely secluded position with total privacy. It's located about five minutes drive from the main town which is very pretty and has everything you need. The villa is very well equipt, was imaculatly presented when we arrived and very comfortable. The wine, olive oil and figs grown on the estate were excellant too! We found it was the perfect spot to relax and from which to explore this lovely island. Everywhere is within an hours drive (probably less) and we found some of the best beaches were very near by - to the south east of Vathi. We spent one day exploring Kephalonia which was a long day but well worth the effort - the ferries between the islands are very good and the first (7am) and last (11.30pm) give you pleanty of time for a good day out. Insidentally, the transfer from Kephalonia when you arrive (if you arrive that way) is simple and your holiday starts from the moment you leave the airport. The Pippou family were very helpful and popped round from time to time to check everything was ok. They even hosted a fantastic BBQ evening for us towards the end of the week in the next door villa which was a great evening. We tend to look for beautiful and quiet locations for our holidays and like to be independant, we've been to some stunning places in the past and this has to be right up there with our favorite destinations! We found this little gem at short notice. Once you get over the shock of how expensive the flights are from the UK you will love it here.
The Pippou family are fantastic and bent over backwards to be welcoming an helpful. The highlight of the holiday was seeing the family come and tend to the estate - in turn we also got out wine and olive oil bottles topped up and fresh fruit and veg every day!
Katerina was also so helpful - she can organise all transfers, boat hire, car hire, scooter hire for you before or when you get there.
The swimming pool was the cherry on the cake - and was very looked after by the family.

I looked for something a little different – a little off the beaten track – somewhere quiet, calm, beautiful, friendly, romantic, full of nature and I found “Cave of the Nymphs” ! There are many factors that make the perfect holiday but I could never have hoped to find so many in one place – in one dream place. Literally 2 minutes drive from the absolutely picturesque Vathy this place really was magnificent. It was so quiet in June waking up to the view out over the bay as the hill rolls out below you, full of olive trees and vines. Great walks all around too. Ithaca is harder to get to but really worth the effort!
The accommodation is perfect for a family but works for a couple too - lots of space, everything finished to a high standard.
But most of all it is the people that make the place, and the memories and it was the Pippou Family as wonderful hosts that really made the visit extra special.
We will be back.

We felt like we belonged to the family even before we arrived. Katerina was extremely helpful and organized our entire itinery from getting to the airport in Kefalonia to arriving at the estate. The villa and pool were impeccably clean and well equipped. We were able to enjoy complete peace and tranquility.

We spend 3 weeks at the Caliadne house and enjoyed the place and the amiability of our landowners.
The house has everything you can need in summertime, and the location is excellent, near Vathy and situated between the beautiful mountain and the sea. The state, pleanty of fruit trees : pears, olives, plums, figs, tomates, grapes....that Giorgo, helped by his family looks after affectionately is beautiful and very quiet, and the oil and wine they produce is excellent!
We recommended the place and appreciate the aid and the nearness of the entire Pippou family.

The family who own and manage this villa is so friendly and helpful.
They greet you and show you around, recommend restaurants in town
and beaches to swim at. They even allowed us to pick grapes with
them and crush it into wine, which was a real cultural experience for us
city dwellers.
The villa is clean, spacious and has everything you need to prepare
simple meals and the pool kept our 3 kids entertained for hours.
We loved having dinner on the balcony at sunset overlooking the bay.
You do need to have a car to get around from the villa to Vathy and

We had a great time at Cave of the Nymphs. It was an amazing experience
living in an agrotourism property as our hosts cultivate different varieties of
pears, grapes, and olives. We were fortunate to be given a tour around the
estate. The rooms were large and definitely ideal for a family vacation or with a
bunch of friends. Katerina and her dad were really kind as they picked us from
the ferry port to the estate. I would recommend a car to experience the great
delights of Ithaki. It is a really beautiful island and definitely less touristy. Cave
of the Nymphs Estate is special because the hosts are always happy to go the
extra mile for you. Katerina's dad went to market in the morning to get us
fresh whole fish for our BBQ which was amazing! There is also a handbook
better than any guidebook that lists the places to eat and beaches to go!

What's there to say about Cave of the Nymphs? The location is wonderful, with a fantastic view, and the house in very clean, organised and cosy.
It is very quiet, ideal for relaxing, but if you want some excitement, dancing and traditional greek food, the island's main town is just a step away. I could stay in the pool for hours watching the beautiful view, listening to birds and the wind.
The hospitality was top notch and the landlord was very helpful and friendly.
Ithaca is an amazing island with beautiful beaches and crystal-clear seas. The roads are quite good for a greek island and all transportations are easy (buses and taxis available).
I had one of the best times of my life, I strongly suggest Cave of the Nymphs for everyone who seeks a place to relax, a place to party, a place for meditation, a place for activities and sports. In Cave of the Nymphs, you can have it all.

i've been going to the cave of the nymphs every year since then. it has a swimming pool with the most amazing view i've ever seen. the houses are situated at the perfect spot, nicely decorated and fully equipped. isolated and at the same time very close to the capital of vathy, it offers both the possibilities to enjoy a quiet holiday or party all night long. for me, it is the best place to stay in one of Greece's most beautiful islands.

The home was a small paradise located on a hillside with the most breathtaking views of Aetos bay and the mountain. It was an ideal place to relax in the morning or after a day's touring of the island.
The home is spacious, able to accommodate a large family or a company of 4-6 people, and fully equipped. The "downside" of it is that local amenities are not around the corner (1.5km away), but still you can manage...Then again, that' s the beauty of it, being in a way secluded in the middle of a beautiful estate able to relax and enjoy nature.Response from Katerina Pippou - 07/14/2009
