Perfect base for our family trip to Yellowstone and Teton

Left on 09/30/2011 for a stay in September 2011

We stayed in this unit for 3 nights Sept. 9-12, 2011 as a base for a quick visit to Yellowstone and Teton. My husband and I were traveling with our two small children, ages 2 and 10 months, and my parents. For a variety of reasons, we needed to base ourselves out of Jackson rather than one of the closer gateways to Yellowstone. This turned out to be great. It is 9 miles north of Jackson, which is a bit of a pain for traveling into Jackson in the evening, but is fantastic for just hopping on the road and heading north the Teton or Yellowstone.

The place was very nice. The kitchen was well set up with everything one could need, the living area was nice, the flatscreen TV and cable worked well, there was internet and even a computer to use, a fireplace, and even a steamroom in the upstairs bathroom. The place was equipped with little things you might need but not buy, like bear spray, and had a large library of books and Dvds to use. There were fantastic mountain views from the larger bedroom and from the deck downstairs as well as nice mountain views from the second bedroom. There was a nice yard area and deck in back and a playground just across the parking area. The upstairs bathroom was large and nice and had a jetted tub. The dining table was great and perfect for our big group. There was also a foldout couch in the living room we did not use and a tube TV in the larger bedroom we did not use. The property management company provided ample towels, linens, toiletries, dish and dishwasher soap, etc and even had a little basket of snacks there to eat. The cabinets contained some staples like cooking oil and salt and pepper which made it easier to buy food to make in. The property management company also provided a lot of maps and area guides in both the packet they mailed out with the lease and in the unit.

A few minor negatives. The development is a little older, so some things were showing a little wear, but the unit was very well maintained. The appliances were older, though very clean and in working condition. The second bathroom was downstairs, only had a stall shower, and was a little cramped because it included the washer and dryer. We had planned on my parents using one bathroom and us the other, but this wasn't really convenient due to both bedrooms being upstairs. The furniture in the living area was nice, but kind of crowded in- it was difficult to walk around the living area- which was a bit of a problem as it made it difficult to chase the kids. This is not something you would probably notice if you don't have to run after little kids every second! The mattresses were very firm- I have an extra-firm mattress at home and can't stand to sleep on a pillow top or anything soft but woke up sore from this mattress and my parents reported the same. And, the floor was pretty dirty- it was odd because the white carpet looked clean but all of our feet or socks were black after walking around for a bit. This may be due to smoke issues though, as it was smoky when we were there from wildfires. Everything else was very clean, so this was definitely an anomaly and, finally, the steps were very steep so caution with little kids is important and they may not be suitable for someone with mobility issues.

I mention those things only because I think it is good to be aware of any possible negatives- this is a great unit- we would definitely consider staying in it again. I also really appreciated the property management company, so if I were looking for a different size of unit I would want to work with them again. Location-wise, it is very pretty right on the edge of Gtnp with amazing views. It is very close to the airport, Gtnp and the road to Yellowstone, and the Elk refuge. It is a little further from town and from some of the ski areas. Considering other properties in the area and their amenities, I thought this was a good value for the money. Overall, I definitely recommend it- our whole family loved it!
