      Fantastic!

By The River more than met our expectaions. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our Thanksgiving meal. We also loved being by the river. I would definitely love to come back in the summer.

      Peace & Quiet

Left on 01/21/2013 for a stay in December 2012

The service we received from the rental agency was top notch, very friendly and informative. The cabin was nicely appointed with just about everything you could possibly need or want. The view of the river was just awesome. It was very serene and tranquil. Upon our arrival we noticed how clean and organized the cabin was thus providing us a high level of comfort. My family and I had a great time at the cabin. We absolutely loved it!

      Great Place to Stay!

Left on 01/21/2013 for a stay in June 2012

We've stayed at your home twice now and have greatly enjoyed each trip. We are already planning on returning this summer as well. Your home is so comfortable and clean and I am very impressed with how well the Kitchen is stocked. It really has everything, which is great for a family like ours who prefers to cook even on vacation. The location is very convenient and the river access is so nice. Thank you so much for renting out your home. It's our new tradition.

      We Had a great time

Left on 12/06/2011 for a stay in September 2011

The only thing about the cabin wished they had changed was to put in 2 full bathrooms. Met the owner when we were there and expressed that to him and also trying to remedy the driveway situation of getting in and out. Washes very bad.

      Comfort and Relaxing

Left on 08/26/2011 for a stay in July 2011

My wife and I had the most enjoyable, comfortable and relaxing time we have had in quite some time and we look forward to returning soon. We loved the fishing, the kayaking and the occasional tubing groups that floated by. Most of all we enjoyed the beauty of it all.

      River Bliss

Left on 07/28/2011 for a stay in July 2011

I am almost reluctant to write this review as I would almost rather keep this place our own secret escape. My wife and I spent an incredibly relaxing week at By the River this July. First off, the house is just that...by the river. The owners obviously are serious about this as the entire outdoor area is focused on the river. You can sit at the picnic table on the deck, swing in the hammock or swing, or eat dinner on the adironack-style dining table outside all while taking in breathtaking views. Inside, the furnishings are more than adequate. The kitchen is especially nice with it's enormous butchers block and quiet dishwasher. The master bed is extremely comfortable and the master suite is very nice. The living room has very comfy chairs. The only drawback I noticed was that the Dish Network did not get Espn, but who watches TV on vacation anyway? I'm sure my wife was actually relieved. Another thing to be aware of is that the house is very close to Hwy. 16 and you will experience some road noise. They are also currently widening the road and there is some construction in the area right now (July 2011). The great part about this house and this part of the country is that there is so much to do (or not do). You can tube, canoe or kayak down the New River. Hike the trails at New River and Mount Jefferson State parks, visit the art galleries in West Jefferson, hop on the Blue Ridge Parkway, or take a day trip to Boone or southwest Virginia. I grew up about 40 minutes from here and never realized the natural beauty of the area. Boy have I been missing out.

      Great Escape!

Left on 07/23/2011 for a stay in April 2011

We had a lovely getaway weekend from april 20-24 this past spring at "By the River".Literally on the banks of the New River in Jefferson NC. We also had our 2 fabulous dogs with us and they loved the swimming! The river was running very fast due to the season. House was simple but just right for a last minute unplanned escape over Easter weekend. Good access to hiking trails, boat rentals and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We will go back again to this cabin for sure!

      Father's Day Weekend Trip

Left on 02/17/2011 for a stay in June 2010

This trip was a surprise Father's Day Weekend for my husband. The cabin was very well decorated and equipped with all the necessities inside and out. The bedrooms were very comfortable and clean! However, the road noise was a bit unexpected and disturbing at night while trying to sleep and outside during the day while fishing and grilling out. But, the fishing for us all was a great experience and made up for the afternoon traffic patterns. Our kids had a blast in the New River splashing around while watching the canoe and tube riders pass by. That was exciting to see as we waved to all whom passed. During the evening, we enjoyed a nice fire in the fire pit and the kids roasted marshmallows and made smores. Overall, the stay was nice and my husband had a great Father's Day Weekend.

If Only the Shower had water pressure!

Left on 02/07/2011 for a stay in July 2010

Our week at By the River was wonderful. The weather was perfect, the view was fantastic - if only the shower had water pressure. Loved the large rooms and the outdoor features. But there was only one shower stall - no tub and did I mention the terrible water pressure. If you don't need to wash your hair you will love it here!

      Fantastic house and view

Left on 02/07/2011 for a stay in August 2010

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at By the River. The house was comfortably furnished and had everything anyone would need in the kitchen. The decks allowed us to eat outside every day and to watch the activity on the river. There is one negative that I must mention: We like to walk and couldn't do so safely on the road. Therefore, we'd have to drive into town to walk Otherwise, the location could not have been better. And we were provided with excellent service by Carolina Mountain Properties staff--especially Jennifer..

      Love the river

Left on 03/25/2010 for a stay in August 2008

When we arrived the house was not clean and all the linens were in a pile at the top of the stairs. I had brought my own linens which was a blessing so I did not have to start my vacation doing someone else's laundry. River access was great. Overall house was nice- loved the bathroom upstairs. Would have been great to have a daybed in the hall nook for our 3rd child but we made due.
