HeidelbergDas perfekte Häuschen für einen aufenthalt in Jerusalem
Left on 03/22/2013 for a stay in March 2013
The perfect little house for your stay in Jerusalem - in a quiet little street, in a lively and green neighborhood near Emek Refaim. There you find all you need - coffed shops, bars, supermarkets and more. The Old Town is just a half hour's walk away, and you can relax after a day full of impressions. The well equipped and bright apartment is perfect for two people - you can sit on the comfortable sofa or in the little garden behind the house. The kitchen fits well for a long breakfast or a little supper. Judy made us a warm welcome - although we arrived in the middle of the night, we could move in finding fruits and cookies as a welcome.

Montreal, CanadaCharming apartment in ideal location
Left on 02/15/2013 for a stay in February 2013
The Cottage is a well-appointed cosy apartment with charming decorator touches in the heart of the German Colony. It has a fully equipped small kosher kitchen [hotplate, microwave, fridge, toaster, all utensils] and modern bathroom. There is even a small private enclosed outside sitting area which would be amazing in warm weather. It is only 2 short blocks from the trendy shops, restaurants and bus service of Emek Refaim but maintains the quiet atmosphere of a residential family area. Frequent bus service is available to the City Centre.
The owner is nearby and very pleasant and helpful.
I loved it and certainly would return. -

This was a perfect getaway for us as a couple staying in Jerusalem, a very intense city. The cottage looks exactly as you see it in the photos. It is lovely, clean, thoughtfully done. We also enjoyed staying in The German Colony. It was within a half hour walk to the old city, and a few blocks away from the cottage were many good restaurants, stores, etc. (Tip: we ate at Cafe Coffit a few times and found it to be consistently good). Judy was very helpful. When we arrived we were greeted with fresh strawberries and cookies. The patio is lovely. The only very small negative: there are no bus schedules in the cottage. There may not be a great map, either. We were able to download a bus map app on our iphone, and you can get maps elsewhere.

Left on 03/31/2012 for a stay in March 2012
This lovely well equiped cottage is in a quiet area but just a short walk from many shops and restaurants. An easy 25 minute walk and we were in the amazing hustle and bustle of the Old City. On our return we had a delightful patio area on which to relax and review our day's sightseeing. The owners were so kind and helpful and their advice about what to see in the area was invaluable. We cannot think of a better place to stay. We felt so at home during our week in Jerusalem and we will definitely come back and stay again in this lovely cottage.

los angelesGreat rental for couple
Left on 07/23/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at German Colony Cottage and echo all the great reviews others have given. Judy is a gracious, but unobtrusive, host. The cottage is pretty close to perfect. If you want to stay in the German Colony, this couldn’t be a better location.
I thought I would add some tips to help future visitors.
--There is a land line phone that can be used for calls within Israel. This is a great amenity. If I had known about this I would have purchased fewer minutes on my Israeli cell phone.
--The kitchen is, indeed, extremely well furnished. If you are planning to be there for Shabbat and want to eat chicken or meat, I do suggest packing some paper plates and plastic utensils since it's a vegetarian kitchen (expensive to purchase in Israel and don’t take much room in your luggage!) La Guta (a short walk towards Baka) has a great selection of take away items Friday mornings. The “supermarket” on Emek Refaim is quite expensive, but you would have to buy a lot to make it worthwhile to spend the bus fare to getto the Supersol that is a couple of bus stops away in Talpiot.
-- Friday morning farmers market held at the community center on Emek Refaim has fruit and vegetables, baked goods and other items.
--Don't bother with bottled water. The tap water tastes great.
--We tried every possible walking route to both downtown and the Old City. I suggest varying your routes to see more neighborhoods. Following a map, you can cut through Rehavia to get downtown. You can meander through Yemin Moshe to get to Mamilla and the Old City.
--We were there in the height of summer and were at first scared off by the black flies in the courtyard. Turns out, when I sat down….they left me to enjoy this lovely patio.
--If it's not the height of summer you can sleep with the windows open and a lovely breeze. When it's hot the a/C works great.
--Be sure to take a walk along the newly-created and beautifully landscaped pedestrian walkway on what used to be the train tracks -- just a couple of blocks from the cottage.
--There is a clothes rack for drying clothes. We also left a load of about a week’s worth of laundry at the laundromat a couple of blocks away that we expected to be more than the $15 they charged to wash, dry and fold. (They charge by weight, so it could easily cost more.)
Enjoy the charm, beauty and peacefulness of this lovely place. -

Bethesda, MarylandA perfect place to stay in Jerusalem!
Left on 10/27/2010 for a stay in October 2010
Our week in Jerusalem with our own place at the German Colony Cottage was the best part of our amazing 2 weeks in Israel. The spacious & charming cottage was the most perfect home base.
We arrived at night in our rental car, & Judy led us by phone the last 10 minutes turn- by- turn from center city right to our place& she greeted us warmly. She gave good advice in answer to all our questions (even where to find a welcoming synagogue within a short walk for Friday evening) There was fresh fruit, nuts& cookies waiting for us. The Cottage is in a very quiet neighborhood but a short walk from a delightful main street with its shops, restaurants and food markets. The kitchen is the best equipped I've ever had in a rental home. The furniture is l very nice and colorful, the reading light in the L.R. excellent. For me, best of all was the Cottage's beautifully landscaped quiet patio for breakfast in the morning; and it was a perfect oasis to come home to in the evening, always refreshing me after wonderful but long days exploring the Old City or the Israel Museum. Being on our own schedule with an apartment instead of traveling with a tour, we had time to go back to the Old City 3 times and to the Israel Museum twice ( catch the English guided tour of the Dead Sea Scrolls and leave many hours for the rest of this beautiful Museum) If time allows, reserve for the tunnels under the Western Wall. And don't miss a sunset dinner at Pappa andreas (in the Christian Quarter) with its delicious food and panoramic view. we could not recommend the German Colony Cottage to you more highly!

The location is great, the cottage is perfect for a couple. The cottage is not extravagant, but delightful, and the patio makes it really special. We'd go back in a heartbeat! The price is right too!

Left on 06/11/2010 for a stay in May 2010
We agree with all the other positive reviews and then some. Rent with conifidence. We were delighted to find this charming place which surpassed our expectations. Besides having everything we needed for almost 10 days and in a most delightful setting - the patio was a particular delight you don't get in a hotel. As well, the place was quiet, but as mentioned, a block away from the hustle & bustle of trendy Emek Refraim. It is walkable to just about everywhere touristy, or there are buses and taxis on Emek.. As our plane landed in the middle of the night. Judy, the owner, was obliging in letting us "check in" in 4:30 in the morning. What hotel would let you do that??
We made the right choice to stay there. -

Left on 11/21/2009 for a stay in October 2009
The German Colony Cottage isn’t only great after a day of touring as it
states on their description. It was an extraordinary experience also after a
day of working. I come to Jerusalem several times a year for extensive, hard
work. The moment you approach the leafy street where the cottage is with
its beautiful old Jerusalem stone buildings, walk down the idyllic, private
lane under a canopy of trees, you become immediately relaxed and
sensitized to the charming aspects of the Holy City. The cottage itself is
beautifully designed and furnished. The owners are an artist/landscape
design team. The colors are both bright and tranquil. It is well equipped
with the same sense of artistry in its dishes, utilities and objects. It is is
cozy and at the same time with enough room to spread out. The best
however, are the outside areas...which you get with no hotel room or other
accommodations. The bedroom opens onto a beautifully landscaped secret
garden tucked between limestone walls, with a table and chairs, where I ate
and wrote. And then there is the magical window, next to the bed, with grill
work, that opens to another beautiful garden space. You can leave that
window open all night and enjoy the mystical Jerusalem breezes engulfing
your sleep. (When do you ever get that hotel room where you can actually
open a window??) And then there is the added bonus of a TV that you can
actually operate and don’t have to struggle with three controls that never
work, like a failed rocket scientist. The owners have clearly designed this
place with an eye towards professionalism and comfort. I’m coming back.

The place is spacious and cozy, with a great patio to enjoy. The owners are so friendly and great - totally accomodating and located nearby. The location is in German Colony, close enough to walk to the Old City but far enough that you appreciate the beauty and calm of the neighborhood. Lots of good shops and restaurants down the street. Excellent value for money. The apartment is equipped for making your own meals. It was a true home away from home!

Our experience in the cottage was exceptional and our memories of the time we spent there in Jerusalem will be special.
The cottage could not be located in a better or more convenient area to enjoy the city.
The cottage itself was perfect for us--every convenience for comfort is there, It is fully equipped and as a compulsive cook I was able
to feel quite at home..
In sum--a darling cottage and a happy home even for a short time!
