Tenerife, SpainPerfect for us and a host to die for
Left on 05/05/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We spent a week at Ein Karem in april 2013 and after having our flights cancelled by El-Al arrived at the house in the wee hours of the morning exhausted and hungry. Our host, Gilla, awaited us and she had not only stocked the kitchen with every possible cheese and bread and cereals but also immediately made us some hot tea. Never have I felt so welcome and at home immediately after arrival. And it stayed that way. The house in which the owner herself raised her children is exactly that, a house that has been lived in and it breathes this life in every detail. So if you want to live like the locals do, this is the house for you. The water is hot, the kitchen equipped with every conceivable tool and the TV and Wifi worked flawlessly. The house can be heated in winter, air-conditioned in summer and apart from that there is the beautiful garden.
Ein Karem is a small village only a short drive from Jerusalem center and the old city and we felt very safe and welcome from the start. I would strongly recommend this for anyone. -

BostonGreat value!

The house is not luxury by american standards, but it was definitely priced well below market value! The neighborhood is great. We walked to restaurants and shops. There is a kosher meat and kosher dairy restaurant along with other restaurants and small shops. Very beautiful area. The best part was a fully stocked refrigerator. We didn't have to run out and get food after a full day of travel. The beds and linens were perfect. The only problem in the house is that you can hear everything. Great place for the money!

LondonBeautiful house in tranquil setting
Left on 11/28/2012 for a stay in October 2012
This is a beautiful house in a quiet setting in the heart of the ancient village of En Kerem very close to Jerusalem. We spent a perfect week here in October (me, my husband, and three children aged 13, 11 and 6). Gilla, the owner, could not have been more welcoming - she arranged to meet us when we arrived in the early hours of the morning, and she had stocked the fridge with ingredients for a delicious Israeli breakfast. It was a fantastic welcome. The house itself is light and spacious - with three large bedrooms and an expansive open plan living area (with wifi). It is modest but comfortably furnished. There is a mature garden with views towards the golden spires of the Russian Orthodox monastery.
We particularly liked being in En Kerem because it's calm and beautiful, full of restaurants and cafes and good for walking in the hills. But it only a stone's throw from Jerusalem. It's a simple five minute drive to the edge of the city - you can park at the Har Herzl tram stop where the trams will take you directly into the heart of the city. -

Left on 04/11/2012 for a stay in April 2012
Gilla went out of her way to find us a driver to bring us to the house. Since we were arriving on Passover Gilla couldn't meet us, but she welcomed us with fruit and fresh flowers in the house. The house is absolutely adorable and meticulously clean. Our two younger boys had hours of fun exploring the unique architecture and lovely garden. Our older daughter loved having her own space and relaxing on the patio shaded by a beautiful antique rose bush. The village is a short walk and full of wonderful diversions. A taxi into the city is reasonable and there is plenty of parking if you have a car. If you'd rather really experience the hospitality and warmth of Jerusalem rather than another generic hotel room in a big city, this is the place for you. We were exceptionally comfortable and the house is equipped with every amenity.

293983an exquisite stay -- all our needs were met
Left on 02/29/2012 for a stay in November 2011
We had a lovely stay in Ein Karem -- easily the most beautiful village in israel -- a twelve minute drive from Jerusalem's center. Gilla's home is gracious, beautifully designed and thoroughly equipped, and she is a warm-hearted and flexible hostess, who prepared the house with treats and flowers upon our arrival. Both of my parents, who can be picky at times -- were entirely comfortable and happy, as were the girls, and Gilla was there and ready for all their special requests. The bedrooms are comfortable and inviting, the table outside a gorgeous spot for meals, the experience deeply soothing. Ein Karem has the charm, quiet, lush greenery and churches that make one think of Tuscany; meanwhile, it's as close as one could want to all the Jerusalem sites. The entire family was well-satisfied, and when we counted it up, we realized the price was more than reasonable. We're looking forward to returning; if you come, so will you.

29073Excellent Home for Weekend Getaway or Extended Visit
Left on 01/15/2012 for a stay in December 2011
My husband, twin 3 year olds, and I had a fabulous time during our month long stay in this home in Ein Karem. In under a five minute walk (with the toddlers) we were able to enjoy 5-7 restaurants (all very good and a couple of gourmet), 2 ice cream shoppes, gardens, galleries, cultural center, and a boutique hotel that offered spa services and fine dining. The home has all of the ammenities that we needed and then some...it is well maintained, and has old world charm with modern renovations. The layout is very good and there was plenty of room for the kids to play inside and they also loved wandering around the backyard. The 3 bedrooms are a really nice size and would be comfortable for stays for adults traveling without children as well. (ie; 2 couples + 1 single.) We hosted a Shabbat dinner for friends and were able to cook and seat for 9 comfortably.
The hostess, Gilla, is warm, helpful, and truly cares about you having an excellent stay. She stocked the home with everything we needed for the first few days..and even well into the month - (fresh fruit, dried fruits, nuts, yoghurts, cereals, cake, and a bottle of wine:). If you are traveling with children, she can get you in contact with some great local babysitters.
Additionally, this made a great home base for going into Jerusalem (less than 5 minute drive to the light rail that goes into downtown and the Old City)... and you can be in Tel aviv in about 45 minutes. We found it to be an advantage to be in a quaint village (imagine Italian hill town) away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but in a convenient location to go to the Old City, Yad Vashem, Mt. Herzl, or any other Jersualem site easily. The home offers its own parking spot too! We are hoping to make it an annual trip staying in this home... I highly recommend that you stay here on your next visit to Jerusalem. -

Ithaca, New YorkA Perfect Place for Short or Long Stays! Fabulous!
Left on 06/28/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We (my husband, our 23 year old son, and I) spent 3 nights (4 days) at this truly wonderful house. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer! The location is perfect, a short and easy 10 minute drive to the center city, yet nestled in the charming oasis of Ein Kerem. There are cafes, restaurants and galleries in easy walking distance. We always felt safe.
The house is perfect as well. It is newly renovated and furnished with impeccable taste, is spotless, very comfortable, and has all the amenities one might want. The beds and pillows are excellent and the kitchen has everything one might need. Parking is right by the front door. The garden is beautiful and is the perfect spot to enjoy breakfast amongst the lovely flowers, the great view of the Jerusalem hills, and the glinting golden onion-domes of a church in the distance. The clothes washer and dryer were a real bonus for us.
Gilla is a perfect host; she is warm and friendly. She welcomed us at the door, explained what we needed to know, and to our surprise even provided fruit and other food to get us started!
This is surely the place for either a short or long stay. It was easy for us to enjoy and appreciate so much all over the city of Jerusalem, while coming “home” to this perfect oasis. Similarly, it is very easy to imagine staying here for months while writing a book. Did I mention the WiFi? We will definitely stay here again and will surely recommend this wonderful place to all our Jerusalem-bound friends. This house exceeded our expectations!
