Description from the owner
Le Chai has one bedroom with a double bed and plenty room for a cot, and an en-suite shower room upstairs. It was designed with couples in mind, although it can easily accommodate a young family with a baby or a small child if desired.
As well as the the dining area inside, outside the gîte there is a delightful screened & fenced terrace in the sunniest corner of our sheltered courtyard. This area looks out south with open views of the local countryside.

Located between La Rochelle and Bordeaux, close to Cognac, Saintes and Angouleme, we're less than an hour's drive from Bordeaux airport and 1½ hour’s drive from La Rochelle. If you're sailing & driving, St Malo is 5 hours’ drive, Caen & Le Havre are 6 hours’ drive, Dieppe is 7 hours’ drive and Calais is 8 hours’ drive.

Middle of nowhere, yet short drives to some fantastic places to visit. We wanted a holiday to switch off ,unwind and recharge our batteries, and thats exactly what we got from Le Chai. Lovely facilities in the gite, very helpful advice pre arrival from Lisa re route to take, visit to Saintes on the way down from La Rochelle airport, refreshments waiting for us on arrival, gite was a home from home, with glorious weather we enjoyed the pool area, and travelled around to some great places and beaches.

This was our first trip to France and we were really unsure what to expect. However, Lisa and Ian Elsey were very helpful via email from the first time we enquired about where to stay. This was reassuring. When we arrived we were welcomed and made to feel welcome. The gite was lovely. It was very clean and airy. There is a dishwasher, washing machine, iron and board even a hairdryer and alarm clock. As we arrived late in the evening we had not had time to shop and we were expecting to have to wait for a drink but found the fridge had milk, bottled water, coffee,tea and sugar. The only thing we had to buy was our food. The gite was very private and even had a bar-b-q area. The pool is lovely and very private. There is an area for outdoor games and all surrounded by beautiful countryside. We had the most lovely holiday. Lisa and Ian we quietly in the background on hand to advise us and answer any questions. They are a lovely friendly family and have helped us have a wonderful holiday. We cant recommend this enough. Gite clean and comfortable and fully equipped for an enjoyable stay. It is perfectly located for exploring the surrounding region, with Bordeaux and its vineyards and La Rochelle being within an hour and a half, and numerous interesting places in between. Great to get 'home' after a long day's sightseeing to the absolute peace and tranquility of the countryside. The swimming pool would be an added bonus for young families.

Great 5 nights. Gite was perfect for 2, very clean, well equipped for self catering nice pool area, BBQ area. Lots to see in lovely jonzac, 20 mins drive.

We enjoyed our stay - property had everything we needed to cater for ourselves and was very comfortable. Ian and Lisa were very hospitable without being intrusive. Swimming pool was a bonus. Location was great for getting out and about and we enjoyed our evening walks along the lane to visit the pigs!

We really enjoyed the 9 days we spent in Le Chai. Ian & Lisa were really helpful - the gite is really well equipped and the pool area had ample furniture for relaxing (as well as lilos etc.)
To sum up: good value accommodation that we would totally recommend. -

A lovely peaceful location. Our hosts were very welcoming and were always available when we wanted to ask them anything. They even arranged a dentist for my husband as he was in so much pain we wer going to have to go back to England. The accommodation was lovely and spottlessly clean and they gave us a lovely welcome pack of essentials. We would definately stay here again.

We had a 2 week chill out, Lisa and family made us feel very welcome, nothing was a problem, we chatted about why they chose the area to live in. They gave us information about the area, the pool was beautiful and was very welcome after a day out sightseeing. Can not fault anything, accomodation was excellent. Recommended for a quiet getting away from everything holiday.

Despite staying in February the gite was snug. A car is essential since the gite is set in peaceful, rolling countryside but Bordeaux is easily accessible and must be visited.

This gite was very well equipped, very comfortable. Mr. and Mrs. Elsey were very obliging and the position was very quiet. The weather was very warm especially for March, so we were able to sit out.
