Sydney, AustraliaFelt like home
Left on 05/10/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We loved our stay at The Whaler. It's in the best location - right next to The Whalers Village when you need to grab something to eat or shop and the best part of the beach right in front.
The condo was all we expected. Everything you needed was in the condo - I mean everything. I needed nail polish remover and thought I'd check the bathroom cupboards and yep there it was. It really felt like we were at home. The bed is super comfy and the view from the lanai was amazing.
Dealing with Bill was also great.
Will definitely be back here. Love Maui! -

We have stayed at this condo numerous times and when we return to Maui and consider alternatives always return. Kaanapali beach is great - the walk, restaurants, snorkeling nearby at Block Rock, shopping and a view that is mesmerizing, especially with the whales putting on a show this time of year. The condo is very comfortable, with excellent accommodations.

A lovely studio condo on the best beach in Maui. The location was terrific. The views are spectacular. The condo itself was very comfortable and pleasant. The owner was easy to work with and very attentive. The property was well maintained, although both the pool heater and jacuzzi heater were not functioning during our stay.

Left on 11/21/2012 for a stay in November 2012
Just returned from 10 days in this beautiful condo. This was our 18th trip to Maui, always staying in the hotels on Kaanapali Beach, but this experience was by far the best. Bill & Rosslyn's condo is as close to perfect as you can get. Location, location, location! It's in the perfect spot overlooking Whalers Village, the views from the lanai are spectacular - ocean to the right & mountains to the left. The condo is beautifully decorated with lots of lovely Hawaiian art, furnishings are up to date, full kitchen has absolutely everything you could want even down to spices & condiments, 2-room bath features gorgeous new shower, dressing area & closet with shelves & again every little amenity - lotions, shampoos, bandaids, sewing kit, beach chairs, beach umbrellas & even a boogie board. We certainly did not want to leave this beautiful place. You can't go wrong with this condo and we certainly will be returning here as soon as we can!

We loved everything about #1063 at the Whaler. It was equipped with everything anyone could want or need. The decor was lovely and the views from the Lanai were spectacular. The location cannot be beat and if you don't need to rent a car everything is within walking distance that you desire. We would highly recommend a stay at condo #1063. The owners, the Rudolphs, were delightful to deal with and we will definitely return again to this little slice of paradise.

The Whaler is ideally located right on Kaanapali Beach between Whaler's Village and Black Rock. The property has lovely grounds, is well-run, and the staff is very friendly. This studio condo (#1063)has all the comforts of home, and has breathtaking views of the beach and the West Maui Mountains. So, you'll see beautiful sunsets and occasional rainbows right from the lovely lanai! Everything is provided for you, except for whatever food items you wish to bring in. There are several great restaurants right along the beach or inside the resorts. I cannot tell you how gracious and wonderful it is to deal with the owner of this condo. I have stayed here on several occasions, and just keep coming back!

Friendly efficient staff.
The unit we stay in -1063- has a beautiful view of the ocean, Whalers Village and Kaanapali Golf Couse. The unit is nicely furnished and well maintained.
It is steps away from the beautiful beach and has a nice swimming pool. It is only a short walk along the beach to go snorkeling at Back Rock - lots of tropical fish and turtles to see. The gardens are immaculate on the Whaler property. It is handy to Hula Grill and Leilani's restaurants and the catamarans come right to the beach for snorkeling and dinner cruises. We like having a fully equipped kitchen and usually use the guest barbeques on the lawn for some of our meals. It is only a couple of miles from Lahaina so that is really convenient. Staying there is perfect for us - we have stayed at the Whaler six times in the last seven years and plan to stay again the next time we go to Maui. -

PANice stylish studio condo
Left on 09/13/2012 for a stay in September 2012
My pouse and I have never done a condo on Ka'anapali before. We usually stay at the Ka'anapli beach Hotel. This time, because of all the great reviews we saw, we decided to try a condo. We were on Ka'anapali Beach 2 years ago and would not have paid to stay in this building because the outside was horrid. They did a beautiful job cleaning up the lawn area and adding a bridge. The whole outslide looked !000% better! The studio condo was enough for us. I wasn't about to cook while I was on Maui but we had a little breakfast and coffee on the large lani every morning - a lovely way to wake up. I really can't comment on the views because we have seen them before but they are very nice. We did have a few concerns. We didin't like the fact that there was no where to put our clothes. The "closet" to hang things in meant you had to hang clothing on top of mps, cleaners, beach umbrellas and chairs. Yes, there was a little shelving but when we ran our hand over the shelves there was quite a bit of dust. There was one drawer in the bathroom that I gave to my wife. I know we may be more finicky than others but this didn't sit well with either of us. I kept my clothes in my suitcase for 2 weeks. My wife had a terrible time with the bed. After the 4th day, she couldn't get up. We exchanged sides but I started having the same problem she did. She wound up fiding the middle of the bed and was able to lay there. There was more cushion and support so she wasn't in pain all day. The other thing we couldn't figure out was there was a cute while table to the right of the bed with a CD player on it and a vase of artifical flowers. Why couldn't that have been a 4 drawer chest? The last thing was the showe. You had to stand inside the shower to turn it on which meant you were in very cold water. Also, not matter what we did, there was always a wet floor when we stepped out. Why not just put a door on the shower and be done with it. The kitchen had all the things you would need and the pool and grass area were super. We don't mean to sound like nasty people, we just thought those things could have been taken care of better. The condo is close to everything you need, great restaurants and shops and those wonderful sunsets every night.

This condo was perfect! The view from the lanai is fantastic, the room is clean, and the condo has all the amenities one needs. Whaler's Village is right next door with shops and places to eat. It is also only about a 5 minute drive to the town of Lahaina. It has a great boardwalk for a morning jog or walk (It stretches from The Sheraton to The Hyatt). For the price, location and fabulous ocean view, you cannot go wrong with Bill's condo. I would strongly recommend this condo to anyone looking for a great place to stay in Maui! It was hard to leave and go home, but we will return.

My husband and I just spent a week at Bill's condo for our honeymoon and couldn't have been happier! The condo was very cute and clean and included many amenities that made our stay much more convenient. There was even a cooler available for us to take on a drive! We could not get over the view from the lanai, absolutely beautiful! The location was perfect, directly on the beach and a 30 second walk from fantastic restaurants and shopping. We also really appreciated being able to check out towels and snorkel equipment from the resort! We are already missing the condo and will definitely stay here again!

My wife and I returned to The Whaler 1063 after having a great experience there in an earlier visit, and again we were extremely pleased. The unit, modern and clean, has had a bit of a facelift since 2011, not that one was needed in any way at all. The new shower area in particular, was impressive. Another welcome feature was the beach umbrella. The screw design in the base kept it firm in the sand while other beachgoers were either closing their umbrellas or losing them to the wind.
The view is terrific, and the location can not be beat. After a day at the beach, we enjoyed sitting on the lanai in the evening listening to the music from the stage or the Hula Grill and watching the people moving around Whalers Village. We've stayed in one of the hotels in Kaanapali on an earlier trip, and while that was enjoyable, it could not compare to the comfort and convenience of this condo at the Whaler.
It was a wonderful holiday, and we certainly hope to return to 1063 in the near future. -

My husband and I rented this studio condo directly from Bill and it was great. We have been to The Whaler before and we knew the area which is why we chose it again. The condo has everything needed and the kitchen is great with supplies in the drawers and cupboards which is also a great help. The view from the lanai is perfect for relaxing, whale watching, or taking in the sunset.
There is a lounge in the lower level of T-2 which has a book exchange library for trading. It was great to have that option. There are a few books in the condo as well which was also a handy feature. There are also washrooms on that level to save you going back to your units.
The construction is finished however there are a few condo units being completely renovated which does cause some noise outside but only during day and not that bad. The grounds are being kept up everyday and they look good. There are a few open houses during the weekend which are great to look around in.
I did use the hair salon and it was great and my husband used the gym daily. We did use the pool occasionally however we prefer the ocean for the refreshing dip. We did not use the hottub as to my disappointment babies and children are going in despite the posted signs.
We have been to Maui many times and therefore did not use the concierge service for any activities. We do rent a car and travel around many parts of the Island on our own. Maui is perfect for that kind of thing as it has lots to offer.
The Whaler is beside Whalers Village and it has everything you need for shopping and dining options. The boardwalk is right outside the door for walking/jogging in either direction.
It was a great stay for the 7 nights we were there and we would certainly come back again. The front desk is very accomodating and their service was great. Thanx Bill for your help in securing your unit.

Everything we needed was available in the condo. The location is the best on Maui with tons of activities. Suggest renting a car. Watched whales & sunsets right from the room.

I just returned from a 10-day stay here, and I cannot say enough about this condo. Kaanapali Beach is a beautiful spot, with so much to see and do. The Whaler is ideally located, with Whaler's Village right next door, as well as many good restaurants and shops along the beach pathway and inside the resorts. This studio condo (#1063) is as comfortable and as lovely as can be. It is fully equipped with everything and anything you can possibly need. A quick stop at the grocery store on the way in for a few food items, and you're all set for a wonderful, relaxing time. The views from the lanai of both the ocean and West Maui Mountains are lovely, especially with sunsets and rainbows! If you want to feel totally comfortable, completely relaxed, and like you don't want to leave Maui, you cannot choose a nicer place to stay.

Left on 09/08/2011 for a stay in August 2011
Our trip to Maui was perfect, and our stay at The Whaler was amazing! We woke up every morning to birds singing, and overlooking Ka'anapali Beach! Our favorite thing in the world is the fish taco's at Leilani's (right at Whalers Village), and everything was within walking distance, unless we wanted to hit the city!
The condos are full service which saved us a ton instead of eating out for every meal, and we even did one load of laundry...
We used the barbecue pits a couple times, and on our way to the condo straight off the plane, we hit Cost-co for all the meats and goodies...
The sunsets are just amazing, and we even walked down to Black Rock to watch the man dive off the cliff after his prayers just before sunset.
We'll be back :) -

This vacation home could not have been more perfect. It is right on the beach and within walking distance to great snorkeling, restaurants, bars and shopping. From the lanai we were able to have an unobstucted view of both the ocean and mountains.
There was a very comfortable feel in the rental. Although it was a studio it was very roomy. The kitchen was unbelievably equipped with anything you could possibly need to cook. (including a great variety of spices and seasonings). There were chairs, coolers and an umbrella for the beach.
The Whaler facility provided large beach towels that could be traded in for clean ones as needed.
Bill (the owner) was a very nice person to work with which made the whole experience that much more enjoyable. Will will be back for sure. -

We spent our honeymoon in the 1063 Studio at the Whaler and the best way to describe our accommodations is, Perfect!
There are so many positives I don't know where to start. Location is important and this place is quiet yet there are so many things in walking distance you will never get bored with all the shops, restaurants, beach space and private pool. Check in was quick and easy (same w/check out) and the complex is well kept and feels very safe with parking just under the building for a small daily fee.
The Room itself was more than we expected. Great for two people! It includes a full kitchen well stocked with anything and everything you could possibly want including spices for cooking (which I made breakfast every morning). Lots of counter space in the bathroom and a closet big enough for our entire luggage and I over-pack. We were so happy to find chairs, an umbrella, a cooler and other helpful items left by the owner for trips to the beach.
My husband enjoyed the free wireless internet while I was a fan of the books left by the owner for new material while sitting by the pool. The view is fabulous! You can see the ocean and the mountains from the room. They have put in mirrors along the walls which was really pleasant so even when I wanted to sleep in I could see the reflection of the beautiful weather outside from the bed. The bed was bigger than this newly-wed couple needed, but it was very comfortable.
It was our first trip to Maui and we will definitely be back and plan to stay here again! We couldn't have been happier with our accommodations.
Thanks to Bill Rudolph for the experience. It was like walking into a home we never knew we had. It felt very warm and welcoming. We think it was a great place to stay on for our first week of a long life together.
Warmest Wishes,
Kate & Marc White -

I'm a nutcase when it comes to research. No exception for me when planning a vacation...couldn't rely on a package deal. I sought information and reviews on the islands, areas of the islands, beaches, and hotels/condos. Found lots on Maui and Kaanapali, then the Whaler. I specifically picked unit 1063 with high, yet somewhat reserved hopes/expectations.
Unit 1063 at the Whaler on Kaanapali Beach, Maui far exceeded our expectations and hopes! We were comfortable & relaxed. The lanai was large enough for comfort (not too narrow) and had a spectacular view. 1063 was on the calmer side of the building when the wind blew and the occasional misty/rain fell, so we could still sit out and enjoy it all the time. We used the kitchen, particularly for relaxed morning breakfasts. The Whaler is right next door to the Whaler Village, so great access to restaurants & shopping. The pool & whirlpool are very pleasant. It is right on the beach so easy to get spectacular beach walk. Nice & easy to walk to Black Rock and/or go out on snorkel-sail.
We took a morning ocean swim the day we left and discussed the next trip to the same place! -

Left on 04/30/2011 for a stay in April 2011
My wife and I stayed in 1063 during the last half of april, 2011. The entire Whaler complex is very well maintained. The grounds are lovely, the pool looks terrific (we never used it with the entire ocean only a few steps away), and our unit was very clean and well equipped. We found everything we needed, including chairs and an umbrella for the beach, and a few items obviously left behind by earlier guests. We left a few things we didn't play on taking home as well.
One of the things we most appreciated about the unit is its location in the complex. Previously, we have stayed in two other units overlooking the pool and garden area, while this unit overlooks Whalers Village. The courtyard gardens are lovely, but they are very quiet and subdued from sunset on. We much preferred the view of the lights and activities of Whalers Village in the evenings. We sat on the lanai every night eating our Hula Pie from Lelani's, listening to the music from the Hula Grill, and watching the people wander around in the village. But the noise was never so loud as to be disturbing - in fact inside the unit you didn't hear it even with the door open.
The unit is also high enough that the view of the village and the beach is excellent. You also get a terrific view of the mountains past the golf course.
Ka'anapali has everything we want in a location, the Whaler has everything we want in a complex, and 1063 has everything we want in a unit. We definitely plan to stay here again and give it the highest recommendation.

We stayed in unit 1063 at the Whaler condos. It had a fully stocked kitchen and many extras. The view from the lanai was breath-taking, the sunsets were so gorgeous we just sat there night after night to watch (with our drinks and snacks)! The location is next to the Whaler shopping complex, and the floor is high enough so that although you can hear the birds in the trees below, they aren't noisy (little noise from the restaurants either). Nice flat screen tv and dvd/vcr, not that we used it much as the location is so near the most fabulous snorkeling, around Black Rock. We saw sting rays, sea turtles and beautiful coral and fish during our snorkeling there. Many bars/restaurants and an aBC store are near. The parking was conveniently under the bldg. and we had no trouble with elevators, laundry, other guests or services. Bill was very easy to contact and work with, everything went smoothly.

It was comfortable, everything worked, no issues, just a relaxing place. The condo itself was furnished very well, along with the kitchen. Most people who went to the store, over bought items, and we gladly left behind condiments for future visitors, as some were left behind for us. Those who plan on staying at this condo, will not be disapointed. Thanks Bill for a wonderful place to stay.

#1063 was the first vacation rental we absolutely fell in love with--we plan to return on a regular basis. The condo was insightfully furnished to make it feel like home--clean, comfortable bed, and well-stocked with kitchen supplies! Because of the 10th floor location, breakfast on the lanai was a treasured ritual as we watched Kannapali Beach come to life. Restaurants and Whaler Village shopping, only a short block away, were an added bonus. The breathtaking view of the ocean and Maui Mountain are images we will always treasure!
The Whaler management was efficient and the grounds immaculate, with outdoor swimming pool and hot tub. Snorkling equipment, beach chairs, and other amenities were available from the pool kiosk. We especially appreciated the underground parking which made access to our car so easy!

My wife and I stayed here for 8 nights. We arrived in our rented car at about 9:30 PM and were well received at the front desk, who were helpful and friendly, as were all staff we encountered.
The condo's lanai had a lovely view of the southern end of Kaanapali Beach and we could watch the sunrise. We were 5 minutes walk from Black Rock and some great snorkeling accessible from the beach itself. I saw a turtle below me near the tip of the rock.
The apartment was efficiently designed and contained every possible thing to make our stay comfortable. Next time we won't even pack umbrellas. This place had everything we could possibly need. Appliances were very modern. Our lanai (balcony) on the tenth floor overlooked the Whalers Village shopping center, where we bought basic food items at an ABC convenience store and where we might have bought some very lovely furnishings, jewelry and Louis Vuitton leather goods, had we been inclined to give in to temptation.
Bill, the condo owner, was helpful with information and accessible via email. He even had a disk in his collection that guides you through the Hana Road drive. The condo charges for WI-FI, but Bill has a wireless router in the apartment that is free to use. We needed to unplug it a few times during our stay, but it worked reasonably well.
The restaurants at or near the Whaler complex were many and had varied menus and great beachfront ambiance. The condo's pool was a popular gathering spot but the salt water and slight surf was the main attraction for us.
Parking spaces were wide and easy to find. We were about 5 minutes drive from the North end of Lahaina, a busy and charming city full of history with the largest Banyan tree in Hawaii. Lahaina has "the best Luau in Maui," and is a great place to walk around, eat and explore.
We were close to other good beaches, like Kapalua and about half an hour from Maalaea Bay, where we got a great snorkeling cruise to Molokini and Lana'i Island.
A great spot to stay. -

We have stayed in this condo several times now. It is well maintained. Being on the 10th floor provides an excellent view of the ocean and Lanai to the west and the mountains on the east. You will see whales from the Lanai.
Being on the south side of the building, the lanai gets just enough sun to be enjoyable without forcing one to retreat. Yes, you can watch the sun set.
Having the Whalers Village below you is good for shopping and eating, but it can become NOISY when the center is being serviced.
You can walk a brisk half hour plus along the ocean going either north or south before it is necessary to turn around. -

The Whaler's location on Kaanapali Beach is tough to beat, ocean at your doorstep. This unit is on the south side of the building which is sunny in March, as are all odd numbered units, just a tip if you like the sun. Was very windy for most of the time but not on our balcony. The unit is well equipped with lots of personal touches - perfect for two people. Shopping and restaurants are within walking distance in both directions along the beachwalk and just a short drive for groceries and other necessaries. My husband used the exercise facility everyday and we BBQ'd nine times! This is our sixth visit to Maui and we are already planning our return.

Southern exposure. Watch the sun rise over the West Maui mountains in the morning and set over Lanai in the evening. The studio is very well set up for a couple. We eat in half the time. Comfy King Bed. Nice Bose Wave. Probably a good TV but I never watched it. Free Wi-Fi included. Even a printer in the closet if you need one.
We go back every year. I guess that tells you how we feel.

I last stayed in The Whaler in Kaanapali in March of 1978. It amazes me the property is in as good a condition now as what it was over thirty years ago. The grounds and the common areas are beautifully maintained. The unit 1063 is perfect for a couple, well furnished and stocked with whatever one would need from kitchen spices to small cooler to decent cookware. Bose radio, CDs, books, etc.; whatever one would need to make their stay comfortable was there, including a lanai with a beautiful view of Lanai.
We felt like honored guests and with that honor, came responsibility to the next guests to insure their comfort. By this I mean it was obvious past guests had left things which future guests could use. For example, it was nice to have a cold coke in the frig when we got there. Likewise, we used up the last of the laundry and dishwasher soap and replaced it so the next guests didn't need to worry about it.
Reading the guest book, we could tell we had become part of select group of fortunate vacationers, some who have returned time and time again. I know when we return to Maui, this is where we will stay.
In addition to the great unit and grounds, we were close to a great restaurant in the Hula Grill and a good restaurant in Leilani's next door. Lahaina was a 5 to 6 minute drive for more shopping, restaurants, and entertainment (Warren and Annabelle's is a must). Sure, a person could find someplace a little less expensive up the road in Napilli (crummy beach or no beach, run down condos, little in good food or entertainment) or stay in windy Kihei if you choose. There was a reason Kaanapali was the area first developed on Maui: best beaches, best weather, best location, location, location!!! -

Condo #1063 at The Whaler is a lovely, comfortable studio condo located in the heart of Kaanapali Beach. It has all the amenities one could ask for. It is ideal for a single person or a couple. The Whaler complex is exceptional in terms of location and amenities. It is close to top-notch restaurants and shopping...not to mention one of the lovliest beaches on Maui. My experience in making on-line reservations was a breeze. I would highly recommend this condo for a wonderful stay in Maui!

For our second visit to in Maui we wanted to stay somewhere in Kaanapali, and Whaler #1063 came up in our internet search. It seemed to suit our needs and in fact was more than we expected, with stunning views from the lanai and wall mirrors, fully equipped kitchen and superconvenient guest laundry, and very easy access to the warm pool and spa, beach, and well-serviced Whalers Village shops and resturants. Staff were helpful and friendly, and the room was equipped to access free broadband internet. Although paying our congenial Iowan host Bill from New Zealand was a little tricky, his helpful and prompt responses meant we would be happy to use #1063 again ans recommend it to others. Many thanks!

My dealings the owner of the condo were absolutely superb. He was very prompt and professional with all of our inquiries leading up to our stay during August of 2009. We arrived to a clean condo exactly as depicted in the photos provided. The location and views from the unit are remarkable and have made for our most memorable vacation yet. I would surely return and highly recommend to anyone considering a place in the heart of Kaanapali beach.

Unbeatable location if you're the type of traveller that wants to be steps from
the beach and shopping.
The photos don't do the unit justice. 1063 provided us with everything that
we needed for our 8 day vacation on Maui. Pack only your bathing suit.
Everything about the unit was good (comfortable bed, lots of small touches to
make your stay convenient...)
Thank you Bill,
