Enjoy the caressing tradewinds on your private lanai - surrounded by swaying coconut palms and tropical foliage. Wash your cares away in the exotic and private hot/cold outdoor shower. Washington DC, District of ColumbiaIncredible cabana in a quiet and peaceful neighborhood
Left on 08/06/2012 for a stay in July 2012
This cabana is in a great location if you are looking for something peaceful and relaxing. We stayed over a weekend after being in Waikiki the week prior, and it was a delightful change of pace. The cabana is about 100 yards from the pristine beach and it wasn't crowded at all! We anticipated a crowd since it was the weekend, but we practically had the beach to ourselves. The Kailua beach was considerably better than Waikiki. It was much less crowded and the water was much easier to swim in. In Waikiki there was a considerable amount of coral rocks where you can easily cut yourself. We didn't have that problem where we swam while at the cabana.
Less than a mile from the cabana is a quaint town filled with restaurants and various shops. So there is much to do in the surrounding area if you aren't a beach nut. Julie has a binder in the cabana that lists the many activities available in the surrounding area. We took her recommendation for a hiking trail that ended at a beautiful waterfall - it was awesome! The restaurant recommendations were great and the binder has menus to aid in your choosing. If you enjoy Italian food, you must go to Baci Bistro (Julie's first recommendation).
The cabana itself is in incredible condition and Julie did a great job with attention to detail. My fiance could not get over how cute the decor was. No need to worry about the lack of aC - the cabana is open air and the trade winds were all we needed for a comfortable temperature. The outdoor shower was great. In case you are concerned about privacy...don't be. I'm 6'6" and didn't have any concerns or problems.
I found that email was the easiest way to communicate with Julie prior to the trip. When we arrived I gave her a call and her voicemail inbox was full so I couldn't leave a message. However she saw my missed call and returned it promptly. Just a heads up for those who prefer phone tag and voicemail.
If the opportunity presents itself, we will be back here again. Thanks Julie!! -

Washington DCUnbeatable location and wonderful hosts
Left on 02/12/2012 for a stay in January 2012
It's hard to know where to begin as I write this review. The location was superb (a few quick steps to the beach), the beach was wonderful, the host and hostess gracious and the gift basket a welcome surprise. We enjoyed everything about our stay and look forward to coming back soon (especially now that United is starting direct service from Washington to Honolulu).
There were no shortage of stores and restaurants within a 1-2 mile radius of the cabana. Easy drive or a good walk - all depends on what you're up for. Since Kailua is entirely residential, the beach was usually pretty sparsely populated during the week. The water was perfect for swimming too.
My wife and I agreed that Julie's cabana was exactly what we were looking for on this trip and we especially appreciated everything Julie and Gerry have done to make guests feel welcome!

We really enjoyed our short stay at Julie's Cabana. It is beautifully decorated and she made us feel especially welcome with a basket of local goodies and ideas and directions to local attractions. We weren't quite sure about the outdoor shower but by the end of the stay we were enjoying showering "au naturel".

Really I don't even know where to begin. I wanted somewhere quiet and beautiful, with instant beach access, and that's what we got, and then some! Julie and Gerry were so kind, and very helpful, good local recommendations. The cabana is in a nice residential area. Kailuah is a beautiful beach, great for swimming. I agree with an earlier post, the outdoor shower is Ohh-LaLa! I would recommend the cabana to anyone, you'll have a wonderful stay in a beautiful place, and get a taste of friendly local culture, away from city business. If we're ever able to go back, this is where we'll stay! Ps, if you're big into flowers like I am, you'll be in heaven here... orchids all over the place!

San Anselmo, CAAmazing Retreat
Left on 10/25/2010 for a stay in October 2010
Julie's cabana has everything you could want in a beach retreat. The cozy house has quality touches, and every detail is thought out. There is a wonderful outdoor shower, boogie boards and beach items, a comfortable bed with lovely linens, and lots of privacy. It is just a quick walk down a path to the beach, which is uncrowded and with beautiful water. Julie surprised us with champagne and chocolate to celebrate my birthday, which made my day. She is a lovely and helpful host, with a beautiful rental. 5 stars from alexis and Pete!

This was our second stay in this lovely little cabana. It is beautifully furnished, immaculately clean, and just a few steps to gorgeous Kailua beach. The hosts could not have been more accomodating. We can't wait to go back!
