Description from the owner

Conveniently close to the town of Kailua Kona, this darling little mountain cabin is just what you need for that special getaway! Situated in the middle of an Ohia forest, this cozy cabin is surrounded by ancient Hawaiian trees, Hapu'u ferns and native birds. The property is on 5 acres in the Kaloko Mauka forest subdivision; approximately 10 minutes to the airport, beaches and shops. It is located just 2 miles above the upper Mamalahoa Highway on Hao Street at 2700 foot elevation.

The weather up here is cooler than on the coastline by at least 10 degrees, which is a nice relief after a hot day at the beach.

    Additional Location Information

The cabin is located in the Kaloko Mauka neighborhood above Kailua Kona town. Most properties up here are on 5 acre parcels which makes it very rural and private. Bird watching and a great hiking trail just up the street. There is also an organic coffee farm, Mountain Thunder, less that a mile away on the top of Hao Street. We are conveniently close to the airport (10-12 min) and it necessary to have a rent a car as there isn't a public transportation system here in Kona.

      A Trip of a Lifetime!!!

Left on 03/25/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Our first time to the Big Island and this Cabin defintely helped to make it a trip of a life time! The cabin was wonderfully decorated. It was very clean, plenty of room and defintely put a nice warm feel in place of a bland typical hotel room.
The property is very secluded and surrounded by beautiful plants and trees. The pictures that are shown here are exactly what you will find and more.
The location is perfect and only a short drive from beaches and airport.
Caroline and Scott are wonderful people who put their love and personality into into cabin. This isnt just a "rental" property for them. They are very warm and friendly. The beach chairs were fantastic!
We got engaged our last night in Kona. We know exactly where to come for an anniversary trip!!!
This place is an incredible value and an absolute must stay!!
      Thanks again,

Perfect place to relax and enjoy Kona

Left on 03/11/2013 for a stay in February 2013

We absolutely loved staying at the Carson's cabin. They are not only accommodating and very friendly, but the studio is everything we wanted for our trip and more. There's plenty of room, the bed is comfy (we didn't use the loft bed, but it looked nice too), the kitchen is fully equipped, and the surroundings are breathtaking. Being a little away from the hustle of Kona town was awesome - you wake up to peace and quiet and gorgeous ferns and plants everywhere. We had breakfast outside every morning. 10 minutes in the car later we were at the beach. If you're looking for a romantic, charming place to stay without breaking the bank, you can't go wrong here. We can't wait to come back!

      Best. Cabin. Rental. Ever. Period!

Left on 11/14/2012 for a stay in November 2012

This cabin is situated high in the mountains above the town of Kailua Kona (10-15 minute drive to town). It is quiet, beautiful, and the cabin had everything we could possibly need (and more) for a wonderful multi-day stay. The cabin itself has a rustic feel to it with a Western, outdoorsy decor. Very comfortable furniture and beds, and a woodstove, a propane heater, and electric blankets for keeping warm at night. The owners are extremely welcoming and helpful. The property is very close to the Honuaula forest reserve making for a nice evening or morning walk. Beaches are just a short drive away. If you want solitude, peace and quiet, and a nice rural feel, this is the place.

My wife and I loved it, and would rent it again in a second! It's an incredible value as well. It was by far the best and also the least expensive place we stayed during our week long visit to the Big Island.

      Highly highly recommended!

Exactly what we were looking for, and more. Great secluded cabin

Left on 11/02/2012 for a stay in October 2012

The cabin was so much cuter than we even expected. It's located on the property of the owners Scott and Caroline but hidden away from view and it doesn't feel like you are on anyone's property but your own. Secluded, peaceful and welcoming. The cabin is decorated wonderfully with beautiful plants/trees surrounding the property. There are boogie boards, snorkeling gear, beach towels, coffee, books, and everything else you might need for a relaxing fun stay! Very rustic and a true cabin on the side of an old volcano! Close to everything via car and away from the tourist-y areas - perfect mix! Ps we had our one year old boy which was a challenge with the open cabinets and other stuff to get into but he loved the seclusion and seeing wildlife/ domestic life (cat and dogs) so it was worth it- the owners even brought him toys to play with. No problem at all. Just blocked off an area for him. The loft is perfect for older kiddos.

Wonderful cabin, excellent location, relaxing stay, loved it!

Left on 04/19/2012 for a stay in March 2012

What a great cabin in a gorgeous location. We are a family of 4 with 2 young kids (4 & 6), we were very comfortable, the cabin was so well equipped it met all our needs, the kids loved the beautiful yard, and the hiking trail up the street. The property was private, tranquil and very relaxing. We will definitely tell our friends and family about this one.
