We had a very good vacation and really enjoyed staying at the a33 at Kona Reef. This was our 5th trip to the Big Island and this was the nicest condos we have stayed in - loved the location and the amenities. No better way to start the day by having coffee while watching the waves come in from the lanai.
No issues at all - very recommended! -

Longview, WAThoroughly enjoyable experience
Left on 04/06/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Our stay at Kona Reef a-33 was exceptional. The unit was very well equipped with lots of dishes, pots/pans,beach toys, etc. The location of Kona Reef is the best! It's unfortunate that the neighbor to the south put bird seed on the downspout every day, attracting birds and subsequent droppings. It would have been more convenient to have a lockbox outside the condo door, rather than have to drive south to the Sunquest office.

A#33 at the Kona Reef was tastefully decorated and stocked with everything we could possibly need. We had a full ocean view right outside of our window where we could watch the surfers every morning. We throughly enjoyed our stay.

Napa,CAA Great Condo Experience In Kona!
Left on 10/11/2012 for a stay in September 2012
We were very happy with our stay in a33. It had a very modern and extremely well equipped kitchen. I have never seen a kitchen with all the great dishes, pots and pans, small appliances, good knives, and even some spices and condiments!
The ocean front was wonderful..we sat on the balcony every morning and night and watched the surfers, boogie boarders, etc. The balcony door would not lock, however, which should probably be fixed by owner, but it is on the 3rd floor so not too concerning, I guess. We loved hearing the waves thru the night.
Our only disappointment, was the vog and clouds that come in to Kona from the volcano. I don't remember it being so thick our last trip, but that is not the condo's fault and we still saw some nice sunsets!
Bathroom was adequate with shower only, but plenty of towels, even shampoo, soap etc in case you forgot yours.
Balcony had a cabinet that included beach needs, chairs, mats, boogie boards, coolers...the works!
We used the pool area bbq's for cooking a couple nights, the gas bbq's were very nice and pool and hot tub were nice as well, but we chose to go to the beaches on Kohala for our sun time.
Adequate parking available and easy in and out. It is nice that the Kona Reef is in easy walking distance to the downtown area, farmer's market, local shops and restaurants and you really don't have to drive unless you are going other areas of the island.
The complex was quiet and well kept. Check in was thru Sunquest, quick and easy but onsite management was helpful as well, for questions, area info etc. They also have a computer in the office to print off your boarding passes for a charge. Our condo had free wi fi, but we didn't have a printer, so we used the office.
All in all, we had a wonderful time, enjoyed our stay and would definately rent a33 again, as well as recommend to our friends and family!

A33 at the Kona Reef is somewhat dated and several things did not work. The bathromm was not very clean, the furniture is in need of cleaning or replacement. The pots and pans were in terrible shape, we went out and bought a couple of new ones so we had a decent fry pan and a pan. Great location, Fanatastic view, very close to town, these were the best thing about this unit.

We came here with our two children ages 10 and 13. They slept on the pull out couch and were fine. The view is fabulous. They have starter kits for the dishwasher, washer and shower. Plenty of towels and the kitchen had everything we needed. The location is great and my husband and I were able to walk to Kona for nightly entertainment. I would highly recommend this condo unit. The amenities, location and view were awesome.

Our stay was fabulous, our unit was very handy to the beach and pool. Also it was very nice to be self contained, we enjoyed the barbecue area the most.It was so nice to have the use of beach toys and chairs too. It is such a nice place to take a family, as it is very kid friendly. And the staff were very pleasant and friendly. We hope to be back to visit again in the near future. Thank you so much for the great service. The Hipwell Family.

Left on 01/12/2012 for a stay in December 2011
My wife and I stayed in Kona Reef in 1993 and have always thought it was a wonderful place, and we finally made it back there. Still wonderful. The oceanfront units really are on the ocean, and the sound of the waves is a great background for relaxing. The view of the water is great, and is augmented by a resident turtle who swims in the shallow water just below the unit and basks on the rocks. It is a short walk into the commercial area of Kona with its broad choice of restaurants. We were surprised by the rise of the tattoo parlors and other low-end commercial outlets, but Kona is still a good place for strolling. The farmers market had a good choice of local arts, and we got fruit and flowers there frequently. The volcano is active and is well worth a visit.

Pros:
Beautiful views from the balcony. Loved watching the surfers, boarders, cruise ship (one day) and sunsets.
Loved the pool and it's surroundings.
Undercover parking was great.
Close to Kailua Kona town.
Cons:
-Most of the towels were ripped, worn and stained.
-There is no place to even put a bar of soap in the shower, let alone shampoo, etc.
-The lighting is atrocious. Some people love to read in bed and that was not possible.
-Although the lighting and color choices might be contemporary, we ended up using flashlights to see things in our drawers in the bedrooms and sometimes in the living room.
-The right window in the bedroom did not close.
-The screen door did not stay on track.
- Soap provided is Irish Spring. Bring your own unless you like this highly fragrant soap.
-No coffee or tissues were provided, as stated in information.
-Coffee bean grinder did not work - this was reported previously online and obviously ignored.
-Sheets were marginal, at best.
-The fan in the bathroom did not only not work, but it sounded like a helicopter when it was on - and if you wanted the light on, the fan was on the same switch.
-Obtaining the key and returning the key were a huge inconvenience.
-The management provides very minimal amounts of bathroom tissue, paper towels, etc. Be prepared to stock up on everything once you get there. Other than salt and pepper, not much else is there. -

We have stayed in many of the Kona Reef condos and this is by far the best. It is wonderfully annointed. Some small issues are related to the screen (off the hinge)and the leuvers on the lanai drapes are starting to come off. Other than that, we highly recommend a33 to anyone. Enjoy the Kona coffee while looking at the birds and sea turtles.

Left on 03/31/2011 for a stay in March 2011
We loved our stay at the Kona Reef. As indicated above the location and view was perfect. Being able to walk to Kona for dinner each evening was wonderful. The only things we would suggest could be added would be more updated utensils in the kitchen ie. bread knife, cutting knives, coffee grinder didn't work. Other than that it was beautifully decorated, very comfortable bed, nice large lanai to accomodate friends for dinner! We would love to return! Just one comment about check in - it was a little difficult to find the rental agency as it was dark when we arrived so looking for street signs was impossible! Picking up the keys on site would make this transition much easier. Thank you!

Left on 09/02/2010 for a stay in August 2010
The location of the Kona Reef Condo is perfect. You can walk to town, to the market, to the marina and to dinner. From the lanai in a-33, you can watch the turtles, the yellow fish, the spinner dolphins, the beautiful yellow birds fluttering from tree to tree, the local fishermen and of course the waves lapping at the shore. You will see a crusie ship, the boogie boarders, the paddle boarders, the surf boarders and the
other boats that cruise past. You can hear the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore all night long. This is a place one returns to time and time again. Thank you for sharing it with us. -

My husband and I loved our stay at this beautiful condo. I only wish we could have afforded to stay longer. The condo was immaculate, beautiful and had the best view from the balcony. We practically lived out there watching the most amazing surfers. The condo was also very well equipped. We had everything we wanted in the kitchen for preparing and dining.
