      Wonderful Makolea #35 Condo

Left on 03/20/2013 for a stay in March 2013

The condo that we recently rented in Kona, the Makolea #35, was a great base for us. The condo is accurately described - very clean, ocean views, well-stocked. It is a half block walk to the beach. The neighborhood was quiet at night.

Wow - loved this condo unit!

Left on 03/05/2013 for a stay in February 2013

We didn't realize that this unit is within a few steps of Kahaluu Park: one of the best snorkeling beaches in Kailua... and a pretty good beach for boogie-boarding too.
      So we felt pretty lucky.
But the best part was the unit: it had everything! snorkeling gear, beach supplies including chairs, umbrella, towels, etc and the kitchen (bcz we like to cook) was incredibly well provisioned. Including a blender for the all important pineapple margaritas.
The apt is very nicely decorated, everything was spotless and in excellent working order, and the lanai has a very nice view of the beach.
Only down side (and this was minor considering everything else) is that you can hear the neighbours (who are generally pretty quiet) and you can hear the street traffic (which is minimal), and if there is road work/cleaning, you'll hear that too. But none of that interfered with our enjoyment of the unit, the location and the awesome sunny weather we had for the days we were there.
      Mahalo!!

Great Vacation Condo - Very Enjoyable Experience

Left on 06/28/2012 for a stay in June 2012

This condo was gorgeously appointed, beautifully decorated and very comfortable for our family. We stayed for a week and a half and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We enjoyed all our meals and evenings on the large lanai overlooking the ocean. The condo was a very short walk, almost just across the street from Kahaluu Beach Park where we snorkeled many mornings. It was very convenient to all the shopping in Kona and Keauhou. The condo's owners, who we met briefly, have thoughtfully stocked it with some of the vacation items you might need while on vacation--snorkeling gear, coolers, beach mats, etc. We fixed most all our meals in the well appointed kitchen. We had a wonderful vacation and would love to stay here again when we return.

      Nice place--Excellent location--really tall beds

Left on 12/22/2011 for a stay in December 2011

First, we are the type of travelers who spend very little time in our room and only require that it be clean and comfortable. That being said, the unit was nicely furnished and modern. The ocean view from the deck was pretty good (some power lines in the line of view--but we knew that and didn't care). There was a nice view of a big green space with lots of trees and birds. The location was perfect--next to Kahalu'u Beach with excellent snorkeling. The unit was well stocked with the essentials. There were a lot of the nice extras such a beach gear, coolers, etc. for use. Neighbors seemed quiet and respectful. The pool was frigid, so my son was disappointed about not being able to swim in a pool at night. The solar heated spa is also luke warm at best.

The beds are really high for children and short people such as myself. I would not put a young child who might move around a lot at night on any of the beds, but the sofa bed would be an option if you have young children. I learned this by experience as my son (6 years old) fell out of bed in the middle of the night and hit his face on the corner of the nightstand. Fortunately, he didn't hurt his eye, just a cut under his eyelid and a swollen purple eye for a few days. So my suggestion, if you have younger children, put them on the sofa bed or at least move the night stand away from the edge of the bed.

So, this was a great unit with an excellent location. Only drawback for us was that the beds were so high that it was dangerous for my son to sleep on them.
