My husband and I stayed at the condo for 10 nights.
Pros: The management company was very professional during the booking process; friendly and helpful and they even got us a really good deal on a rental car. Picking up the key from their office was easy, but would have been an inconvenience without a car. The condo was spacious and quiet and had a nice big covered balcony where we enjoyed most of our meals. There are nice pools in the complex and an activity center which offers activities like snorkeling, hula dance and lei making classes. The shopping mall a 5 minute walk from the complex made grocery shopping very convenient. The area is nice and quiet and close to a snorkeling beach, the coffee plantations, the Sheraton Hotel (nice for Happy Hour, as well as one of the best Lu'aus on the island) and about a 10 minute drive to the Kailua-Kona town site.
Cons: New flat screen TV in the living room, but no DVD player as advertised. The place was not that clean. The master bathroom shower was so clogged up that we ended up showering in the second bathroom. Light bulbs were burnt out or missing throughout the condo so the place was quite dark at night. Inconveniently, we didn't have hot water for 3 days. By the time we realized it was not a temporary problem, we called the management company's emergency line on a Sunday morning. They never got back to us, so we called the office again the next day and then they had the problem fixed. We also complained about the burnt out light bulbs and they said they would fix it, but they didn't. There was no complimentary bag of coffee in the apartment as stated in the contract, not a big deal, but why say it will be there if it isn't? The Wifi in the apartment is not reliable, but the landline works. The fitness rooms in the complex are very small and not well equipped, so we ended up not using them at all. The nice beaches are about a 45 minute drive away, so not the best location if you want to be close to a nice beach.

We rented a unit at the Kona Coast Resort for a four-day visit to Kona. The units are spacious, well appointed, and very well kept. Service is impeccable. We had a minor problem and someone to repair it showed up in five minutes and was finished in another five. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The aloha Bar is excellent; the pools are pleasant; and the grounds are very enjoyable. If you are looking for a condominium unit where you can cook, if you wish to, this is an excellent place. The location is quiet, and if you don't mind being ten minutes from the center of town, about perfect. Access to the roads around Kona is superb.

The unit has white carpets and furniture. A nightmare for tenants. The dishware is ackward, no dinner size plates, no regular size bowls nor cups. Air conditioner was tricky. The tv in the bedroom had no remote. Bed linens were mis-matched. And while there were 2 rice cookers, there was no can opener. Not up to quality of other units in the resort.

I loved staying at the Kona Coast Resort. The property is beautiful and close to Kailua-Kona and restaurants and shops. I stayed in a one bedroom which was huge and had two bathrooms. One for myself and a friend who came along. I had a partial sea view and I felt like I was at home while staying there. So peaceful and quiet. I enjoyed many a cocktail and sunset on my balcony. Would definitely go again!

The Kona Coast Resort was one of, if not the best, places we have stayed in in our many travels. Beautiful scenery, awesome staff. The 2 bdrm, 2 bath condo we stayed in was like living in your own home for a week. Had all the amenities we needed and storage galore. This was our first trip traveling with our son, his wife and 2 sons. They absolutely loved it and we never got in each others way once. The food in the restaurant was delicious and prices reasonable. Since they do not have elevators, they granted our request for a first floor unit due to baby stroller and husband with bad knees. Very accommodating.

I traded one of my timeshare resort weeks for this week in Hawaii. I have visited several of the other islands, but this was my first to the Big Island. My son and his wife's family had visited before so they had a good idea of what to see/do.
The condo was very comfortable, lots of room , full kitchen. My son, his wife and their 2 and 4 year olds stayed in the master suite (King bed, separate bathroom with shower- no tub), and her parents stayed in the smaller 2nd bedroom with a Queen bed. The second bathroom had a tub and shower combo. I used the pull out sofa in the livingroom- comfortable enough. Other relatives stayed in a one-bedroom unit. It was spacious - they were very happy with the accommodations.
We often ate meals together, and when we needed additional chairs (10 of us), the management was happy to fulfill our request with folding chairs that we were able to stash easily at unused times.
Central air conditioning is optional. It is available for a relatively minor fee, for the timeshare guests. It is included in the nightly fee for other paying guests.
There are outdoor gas grills which were easy to use and picnic tables.
The only drawbacks that I can think of is that this property is not located on the beach. It is near several beaches that we enjoyed exploring.
The other situation is that there are no elevators. With all these people, we had plenty of help with luggage, but it is something of which to be aware if you have physical limitations. The stairs are outside the units. The units are one floor.
There is a wonderful family pool that we all enjoyed, with a restaurant adjacent. Beach/pool equipment is available for rent, which we did several times. There are other, smaller, quiet pools if you so choose.
We stayed a week, and really enjoyed the comfort factor here, though we are all "urban" dwellers- extended family came from Tokyo, my son's family and I live in big cities and often stay in higher end hotels. For the family and a really easy place to stay, this is wonderful.
One tiny piece of which to be aware for the uninitiated: There is an activities desk in the small registration office. You are invited to an island "orientation" which is more of a pitch for selling tickets for activities. We skipped the orientation.
We would certainly consider this a place to stay on our next trip to this island.
