Left on 06/06/2013 for a stay in May 2013
This unit has a wonderful panoramic view and is right on the ocean. What a treat to literally see the ocean view lying in your bed in the morning. Well decorated, well maintained, and very clean unit. We were very very happy with our visit. Only negative was no aC, as we were there during a hot, humid period. With four ceiling fans and three more free-standing fans available it wasn't too bad, and is probably just fine during most of the year. I would definitely recommend this unit. We had no problems with anything during the trip and abbey Rentals called anyway just to make sure everything was fine.

Left on 05/02/2013 for a stay in April 2013
The lanai is the highlight of this condo. It is very large and right on the ocean. Within 5 minutes of entering the unit, we saw whales from the lanai. The rest of the unit is nice with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. However, the master bedroom has one wall that is just sliding screens so there is not a huge amount of privacy. It is nice there are full sized washer and dryer in the unit. You will have to get your own snorkel/beach gear except for towels. The complex grounds were well tended, clean and quite. The pool is fine--nothing special. There are not many amenities in the complex, but there is a shopping center just outside the ground and town is just a quick 5-7 minute drive up the road. There is not a beach on the property, but there are several close by. All in all, a nice place to stay.

Left on 04/05/2013 for a stay in September 2012
This property was perfect for us to celebrate our 10th anniversary! The location was perfect. The condo was very comfortable, and very quiet. The proximity to the ocean and local shops, especially ali'i Drive was perfect. Perfect, perfect, perfect!!! We absolutely recommend this and we hope to rent again in the very near future.

Great condo with plenty of dishes and almost everything you could wish for. Views of the ocean from the lanai, living room and the master bedroom were awesome. I loved that the condo is on the second floor so we could leave the windows open at night. The only thing missing was a couple of tennis racquets - after all, it's the Surf and Racquet Club and it would have been nice to hit some balls.

We loved the oceanfront location and enjoyed the somewhat removed location from busy Kailua. Very nice pool and lovely grounds. Our condo was in good condition, the layout of rooms made good use of space, and beds were very comfortable. Decorating was a bit busy but "tastefully Hawaiian". The kitchen was well equipped. It did not have basic staples like sugar, pepper, mustard and catsup as did the other condo where we stayed last time. The lanai was wonderful and the glass walls/doors brought the outdoors in. The folks at abbey Vacation Rentals made check in and check out a breeze. Our granddaughter liked having the snorkel and boogey board available. Thanks for contributing to a wonderful vacation!

Manager
Aloha,
Thank you for taking the time to provide us your thoughts on your recent stay with us, as well as you very kind comments. On the staples point that you raised, we don't keep spices in the units due to their not having a very long "shelf life" here due to the the humidity, and similarly sugar is very had to keep in the tropics for the same reason, as well as it can be a magnet for ants.
We look forward to having you as our guests on your next stay to the Big Island.

Beautiful oceanfront condo with amazing view, comfy beds, all kitchen necessities, nice pool. Site manager was very willling to accommodate storage and access to our rental bikes (but would be nicer to be able to access this storage ourselves). Quiet and restful - although we were always out doing things! Nice to be able to relax at night and watch a movie or dine on lanai. Trying to figure out how we can get back there!

Carmichael, CAFabulous condo
Left on 05/26/2011 for a stay in May 2011
Enjoyed a fabulous 5-day stay with our two adult children. The condo is beautifully appointed, simple yet comfortable, with a Hawaiian motif. Just about everything you need is supplied: thick beach towels, plenty of bath linens, rice cooker, coffee maker, basic kitchen supplies, washer and dryer including detergent, paper towels, soaps, etc. The best part is the lanai, complete with chaises and dining set, which looks out onto the brilliant aqua marine ocean. The water is so clear you can see the bottom. The sunset view is amazing! It was a dream to go to sleep and awaken to the sound of the waves. A mall with Longs, KTa market, theater, and restaurants is a short walk away, as is the snorkeling beach. Our only disappointment was that the shoreline path has been washed up, so you must walk on the street to get anywhere.

This is one of the most comfortable places we have ever stayed. Nice furniture, upgraded kitchen, new patio furniture, stacked washer and dryer.
The location was within easy walking distance to local shopping and parks. The pool and clubhouse were very nice. And what a view! You are right at the waters edge, it doesn't get any better than that. -
Kona-Kailua waterfront condo
Cochrane, AlbertaNice waterfront condo
Left on 03/05/2011 for a stay in February 2011
This is quite a nice unit with comfortable beds, nicely furnished and a beautiful view. We could sit on the lanai and watch the whales as the sun set. It's an easy walk up with convenient parking. The grounds were well maintained with a nice swimming pool and tennis courts. There are bar-b-ques available which worked well.
There were a few maintenance issues. 1) electrical outlet on lanai was not a gfi. When my daughter tried to plug something in she got a shock. 2) Master en-suite toilet flush valve kept sticking so you had to open it up for each flush to fix it. 3) Stove top- 1 burner did not work. 4)We woke up to a storm one night finding that the sliding glass door frame on the master bedroom was not attached to the wall on one side, creating a whistling wind tunnel that prevented further sleep until the storm abated.
If these issues are addressed I would rate it a 5.

Thank you so much to the owners/property managers for an amazing vacation!!!
The photos online do not do justice to how beautiful this place is. When we first walked in the door, I was truly blown away.
The furnishings are lovely and comfortable, and the view is even better than some of the top hotels... you are looking straight out, not past a pool/umbrellas/beach chairs/etc. We enjoyed wine and sunset on the patio almost every night. Amazing colors, and once, dolphins! And falling asleep to the waves crashing against lava rock.
Also, cleanliness was excellent. Linens, towels, everything smelled fresh and sanitary. Overall premise felt clean and secure as well. Check-in process was hassle free.
No big deal... but I did have to ask the upstairs neighbors (also renters I think) to quiet down, since they were early-morning-patio-talkers, but I don't believe this would be an ongoing issue, since again, I believe they were temporary guests.
I would feel 100% confident recommending this place to a friend. It is a steal for the money, far outweighing the value of a hotel.
I was enitrely depressed to leave, and wish I could have stayed for months...

Gainesville, FLGlorious View, Beautiful Interior!
Left on 06/26/2010 for a stay in June 2010
This condo was jaw-dropping when you walked in the front door. The view from the 2nd floor balcony of the Pacific was unsurpassed. The interior design was undoubtely done professionally. At first we were concerned that there was no aC (being from FL) but we found we never missed it.
The unit was very well equipped with beach gear and kitchen utensils. The owners thought of everything. The complex is only a short walk to Kona's nearest snorkeling area. It is also very convenient to groceries, etc. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.
The sunshades were very necessary for the late afternoon sun heat gain, but they probably needed replacing. They also were completely transparent at night from the outside. We just got undressed in the dark:-) No real problem, since people aren't likely to be behind the complex after dark.
There is a fairly hefty cleaning fee tacked onto the base price, but even with that, considering what you are provided, the price is fair. -

My husband, daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this condo. There is no beach, but the sound of the waves and the Lanai made up for it! We visited some lovely beaches within 30 minutes of our vacation home and it was well located.
Everyone worked well and it was clean and inviting. We didn't use the TV, but the wireless and radio worked well. The condo was well furnished. We used the barbeque near our building and that was a nice feature. I loved the views of the ocean. -

NorwayA great vacation and condo!!
Left on 12/03/2009 for a stay in November 2009
We stayed here for 9 days in the beginning of November, and we simply loved our stay from the start. Our first surprise was this fine condo with a great view over the ocean. We enjoyed the sunsets and watched the dolphins playing. The condo had everything we needed. We didn't miss a thing.Everything was nice and clean except from the lanai. We had to clean everything out there before sitting down.
When we got some trouble with the sink in the kitchen, we called about the problem on a Sunday morning, and when we came back from our sight-seeing in the afternoon it was fixed!!
Mostly every day we walked over to a little beach where it was fantastic to snorkle, so we used to stay there for a couple of hours before exploring the island the rest of the day.
The shopping-center is near by, and we found everything we needed there.
We loved the Big Island and we hope to be back someday. Then we will have a longer stay at this beautiful island, and of course we hope that this condo is available for us!
Kind regards from Norway!! -

Gorgeous view from the condo. Every thing was very clean and we enjoyed our stay very much. Unfortunately the five days we spent were too short for us. So one time we wanna come back to stay longer. Also many thanks to Eme, who helped me first day to open the door, because I locked all my keys in the condo. That was so kind and best benchmark-service. I'm so thankful about this fact.

Sandy, UtahPerfect Condo in Kona
Left on 05/22/2009 for a stay in April 2009
This condo met our needs perfectly! The location of course is gorgeous and the condo had everything we needed, even a cooler, beach towels and chairs. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five, was it said it sleeps five (we had two adults & three kids), but there was only a king bed and two small beds in the second bedroom. The couch did not fold out into a bed as expected. It worked out though, there was a couch and a loveseat which we pushed together & it was like a fort for the kids so they loved that! Other than that, I highly recommend this condo. The unit was beautiful & very clean, as well as the complex, and the rental process was trouble-free.
Response from Abbey Vacation Rentals - 05/29/2009
Manager
Surf & Racquet Club 2-202's bedding configuration is a King bed in the master bedroom, two twins in the second bedroom, and an AERO twin bed which is stored in the second bedroom's closet for those who require additional bedding.
Unfortunately we were unaware of this guest's difficulty in finding this bedding, and upon checking the guest folio find no notes concerning this problem. We have augmented the guest arrival information for this unit with specific instructions on finding this AERO bed to prevent future prolems in this regard, and of course we are open and available 7 days a week here on the Big Island to help resolve any difficulties a guest may have. -

The place had a nice view but the lanai was not very clean. The showers in the bathrooms also did not drain very well because they are probably plugged. Overall, it was a nice place but I would not stay there again.

Thank you for your feedback. Direct Ocean front lanai's are difficult to keep clean after a few hours due to their proximity to the ocean. Whenever you stay with us, if you find a maintenance issue such as a slow drain, please let us know, and we will have it fixed asap.

Abbey was very helpful and clear in their arrangements for the rental. The view over the ocean was spectacular. The unit was very nicely furnished. The tennis courts and swimming pool were well-used amenities. The tennis courts have some sizeable cracks which should be fixed but they weren't a serious problem. Because we were there over the Christmas holiday, we'd hoped to see some of the bowl games but they didn't seem to be available on our TV's cable package. Overall, a wonderful unit! Good value. We would stay there again.

My husband and I spent 7 days at this wonderful condo. It's on the second floor so at night we left open the sliding glass door and feel asleep to the sounds of the ocean right outside our door. The entire condo was a great layout and decorated very nicely. We ate some meals on the lanai and enjoyed the sunsets. We don't golf so some of the other properties were of no interest to us but this property was ideal. The rocky lava shore line and ocean breezes were just what we were looking for. I would definetly recommend this condo. The price and location were great.

Left on 12/23/2008 for a stay in October 2008
We made Kona Surf & Racquet our luxury base as we covered 1090 miles exploring the Big Island.
Tearing ourselves away from the condo's outstanding view and lanai was sometimes tough - and returning to it was always a welcome breeze!
The condo's extra touches (cooler, chairs, king size beach towels...)equipped us perfectly for all of the adventures we had.
A slow drain in the master shower was the only hitch in our memorable two-week stay. -

Columbus, OhioNot so happy
Left on 12/17/2008 for a stay in May 2008
Upon arriving we were very diappointed to find out there was no air conditioning. Then we had brought in groceries, later when we went into the kitchen there were cockroaches all over the countertop, on the refrigerator and just crawling everywhere in the kitchen. I had to make an appointment for someone to come out to spray. This made our stay unpleasant and I thought about the roaches crawling everywhere so it made my sleep almost impossible. I will say we enjoyed the balcony view and spent alot of time there on the balcony.
Response from Abbey Vacation Rentals - 01/04/2009
Manager
Air conditioning is not an attribute of condos at Surf & Racquet Club resort. While allowing the addition of this to amenity the complex is a matter being considered by the homeowners association, it is not presently permitted. None of our units at the Surf & Racquet Club are marketed or advertised as having AC. While this guest was disappointed at not having AC, had this been an amenity they desired, many of our units do possess air conditioning, and we could have rented them a more suitable unit.
Bugs are a unfortunate reality in a tropical climate, and Hawaii is not exception. The Surf & Racquet Club complex treats each the units within their complex quarterly for pests. In the second half of 2007, we also engaged a private pest control contractor for this 2-202 to conduct their own quarterly treaments, and in the event of any bug sightings, to address the problem immediately. Since the engagement of this professional pest control service, we have had no further issues of pests in this unit. -

I found this place on the web and it seemed to be the best value for what we wanted to spend. It was a fabulous choice, indeed. We loved the view to the ocean, the space, and location. There is no beach to swim on the property but the whole family and especially our younger son (7 years) LOVED the pool which was rather large and not crowded. Get a rental car and explore the National Volcanic Park, and there is so much more to see. Back to the place: without hesitation, we can highly recommend it.

Left on 12/15/2008 for a stay in July 2007
We stayed at this apartment for 4 days and could have stayed longer.
Perfectly located on the water, so close the waves spray you while on
the balcony. Perfectly located close to beach areas, with real sand and
many fish. Sure you´ll see more fish other areas, but this was nice.
You can walk to a nearby beach, rocky though, but the turtles swim
here too and if you´re not afraid of the rocks, nice for small body
surfing.
The apartment has all facilities. 2 large bedrooms and a pull out sofa,
which was too soft, so the oldest boy (17) slept on a mattress on the
floor at times. Kitchen with all facilities.
Yes, we would recommend this apartment to couples (quiet area) and
families (close kiddy beach). And there is a bar-b-que right outside.
You will enjoy!
