A Kona home away from home

Left on 03/07/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Such a pleasant place to stay, well equipped and roomy. It's up the hill a bit where the trade winds blow. Great home base for seeing the island. Convenient to shopping. A beautiful garden setting and great avocados. Sandra was a gracious hostess.

First rate accommodations in a lovely setting

Left on 01/28/2013 for a stay in January 2013

A perfect spot to enjoy all that Kona has to offer. The home is well located between Kailua and the beaches along the coast heading north. It is very clean and well appointed with a living room, kitchen and dining area, bathroom and bedroom with an amazingly comfortable king bed. Sandra, the owner, is warm and gracious. She has the uncanny ability to be around if you have a question and not when you don't. She has lived there for many years and was invaluable in advising us on places to go to fully experience the environment and culture.

As they say: "location, location, location." Far enough outside of town to make you feel you have a private retreat yet close enough to be in the heart of Kailua in 15 minutes. I highly recommend this property as a home base with which to appreciate the richness of Kona. We've already made the arrangements for our retun.

      Little slice of paradise

Left on 01/27/2013 for a stay in January 2013

We stayed for a week at this unit. It was spotless, comfortable and close to beaches and activities but far away enough that it was quiet. The bed was very comfortable and the place felt very private. Sandra was a great resource for us as this was our first trip to the Big Island. She also gives a great massage. Would recommend this as a great place to stay.

      Great Kona Escape - perfect!

Left on 08/16/2012 for a stay in September 2011

It was a year ago that I stayed @ Sandra's beautiful place. Since I'm returning again this year, her's was the first place that I checked since I have some friends that want to share also. However, her larger place is taken for our travel period. If I was going alone or with only 1 or 2 people, I would stay here again. Everything about the place was great - felt like a vacation & being home (or better than home I should say) @ the same time. She was a perfect hostess with great info to share also.

      I didn't want to leave!

Left on 08/09/2012 for a stay in June 2012

I love this place. Total privacy, absolute value, and unparalleled beauty... what more could you ask for?

Picture this: you wake up in the morning to the sounds of birds singing and the smell of fresh plumeria... you wander over to the fruit orchard and pick yourself a breakfast of fresh fruit... then you settle back into your private escape and plan out your island adventures, knowing that everything you could possibly want to experience is within a short car ride.

I can honestly say that my trip to Hawaii was made exponentially better by choosing the Great Kona Escape. It truly is my new home away from home. I will definitely be back!

Left on 08/04/2012 for a stay in July 2012

Everything about the rental home was just great.. It was very clean. The location was just perfect. Sandra, the owner, is very nice and she shared a lot of information about the places to see and visit. It was very helpful as it was our first trip to Hawaii. Thanks Sandra for sharing your home with us. We liked the coconuts and fruits from your garden very much. Thank you.

      Great Kona Value

Left on 03/13/2012 for a stay in March 2012

Our stay at the Great Kona Escape was great. The owner, Sandra, was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. This was our first trip to the Big Island and she gave us great advice on where to go and what to do.

Kukio Beach was fantastic for sunsets. We also enjoyed the body boarding at Kekaka Kai / Kua Bay State Park, just south of Kukio Beach. We did a great snorkel trip to Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park, seeing probably the best coral reef heads that we have ever seen. Volcano trip by car was long and arduous, as she had advised, but we are pleased that we chose to see that part of the island. Also enjoyed Sam Choys for dinner.

The accommodations were spacious and simple and clean and presented what I think was a great value. It is a wonderful property with great gardens and great views of the city below. Although we were on the go most of the time, when we were there, the place was very quite and quite peaceful. Loved the chickens! Our only critique was that the windowless bathroom needs a working exhaust fan in order to reduce the moisture and to help the towels dry. Also the shower gel and shampoo supplied, was very limited in quantity. Other than that, this place was just as advertised. We would recommend to friends.

Thank you for your kind words and for letting me know about the fan in the bathroom, which is now fixed and running perfect. Under the sink is an entire bucket of shampoos and lotions; I'm sorry you didn't asked. Many Mahalos for being great guests and I look forward to your next stay at The Great Kona Escape.

We just returned from a fabulous two week stay at The Great Kona Escape. This place was perfect for us; centrally located to all the activities we wanted to do and the price was very reasonable We feel so lucky to have found this place. The unit is clean and spacious, quiet and has the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in away from home. The grounds are beautiful complete with a garden full of fresh vegetables for our daily salads and fruit right off the trees for breakfast. We can't thank Sandra enough for her warm and friendly hospitality. The great bonus was amazing massages at reasonable rates. We will definitely be returning to The Great Kona Escape. Love, love loved it.

      Great value! Great escape!

Left on 07/17/2011 for a stay in June 2011

I stayed at The Great Kona Escape with my 11 year old son. The unit is a well appointed, large 1 bedroom apartment. The king size bed is comfortable and the living room easily sleeps a couple more people. It's clean and quiet with a lovely ocean view from the bedroom. The kitchen is small but well equipped. I was able to make all our meals myself instead of dining out. The owner, Sandy, provided beach gear for our excursions. She also brings fresh fruits grown on the property everyday. The location is perfect for getting around and exploring the island. If you're looking for a reasonable place to make your home base while visiting the Big Island, consider this spot.

If you're looking for a quiet getaway, this is it! No noisy rental condos anywhere near here. Conveniently located within minutes of downtown, the airport, the Kohala resorts, Costco, etc. Superb views, especially from the pool. Well appointed suites in excellent condition. Sandra is a lovely and sweet host and is available to answer any questions. The beach chairs, picnic cooler, towels, fresh eggs available were very much appreciated!

There isn't anything negative to say. Sandra makes you feel so welcome. She shares everything that you need to make your stay the best. Picnic cooler, umbrellas, beach chairs, fresh layed eggs, produce from her garden, papayas, bananas, star fruit, lemons. She is your personal travel agent. Tells you where the best beaches, farmers markets, luaus are. Whatever you need to know she is there to answer your questions. Sandra's rental is away from all the tourists and traffic. It is nice to hear the birds sing and see her 3 hens walk around her lovely 1 acre yard that is perfectly manicured with Hawaiian plants. The suite is clean and has everything that you would possibly need for your holiday. If there is something you need, Sandra will get it for you. We had a wonderful holiday and would stay at The Great Kona Escape again. Thanks for sharing your home with us Sandra.
