      Don't think, book!!!

Left on 12/23/2012 for a stay in December 2012

Our family of 3 spent 2 weeks in that retreat, and we definitely had one of our most amazing holiday so far. Our 3 year-old daughter enjoyed the pool, the hot tub and all the toys Sandra 's been nice enough to lend us, and we had great time too, visiting the area (the house is ideally located to cruise around the island), hanging around the pool, or playing badminton in the fantastic garden... the main room is huge, and the king bed is very comfy. the bathroom includes a "moon" shower, so you'll be able to have a warm shower when getting out of the pool, or just enjoying the sunset... The outdoor kitchen offers all amenities you might need to cook or bake,...
Kailua-Kona is a short 10min drive, and there you can enjoy the beautiful coast walk, and encounter dolphins, sea turtles, and excellent Mai-tais!
      Would definitely come again!

      Great views and quiet setting

Left on 11/03/2012 for a stay in October 2012

This is a nice place to stay. The views of Kona harbor are incredible. My wife and I really enjoyed the outdoor hot tub and the quiet neighborhood. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and included quite a few types of tropical fruit trees- only problem was that a lot of the fruit was on the ground rotting. The outdoor kitchen was a little outdated and the window and door screens could use some repairs- they let in a few bugs and two small lizards. We did feel a little uncomfortable and awkward that the owner was not present at any time during our stay. This is the main reason why the rating is only average.

Extremely peaceful and relaxing - perfect hideaway

Left on 10/27/2012 for a stay in October 2012

A well priced rental that's in an idyllic location up on the hill above Kona. Situated on a dead-end street with extensive gardens this is a perfect spot to get away from it all and relax. The room layout is a little unconventional, but this can easily be overlooked given the location, and the great pool area.

I still smile when I think of "Sandra's place"

Left on 08/16/2012 for a stay in June 2011

This home is absolutely stunning. Between Florida, Mexico and Hawai'i, I have stayed in a few high-end resorts and luxury vacation rentals -- this one, by far, takes the cake. I've never reviewed any of my stays until two months ago, so when I thought of the numerous places I've been to, the experience at this vacation home came back knocking. I must share with fellow vacationers about my experience:

Aside from being immaculately clean, airy, fresh and completely alluring, the privacy that you get from being at this fine rental is second-to-none. The privacy aspect of a vacation rental is important to me, especially on the islands of Hawai'i. While the home is in a neighborhood, the tropical foliage that surrounds the well-maintained spacious grounds makes you feel like there is no one else around. The sweet, natural perfume of plumerias, pineapple and clean mountain air will lull anyone to a peaceful sleep by the poolside or while taking a nice soak in the jacuzzi. The ocean view while cooking or bbq'ing on the outdoor kitchen is simply spectacular.

The owner/hostess, Sandra, lives with the spirit of aloha. She has a carefree-air about her that makes guests feel relaxed. It was just myself and my two daughters, ages 6 and 10. I'm always a bit nervous when I travel with my children because I'm not sure how the host/hostess will react. My daughters are well-behaved but I have been to vacation rentals where I've felt that children are not welcome, even if it is stated that they are in the advertisement. If you have children, you will not have to worry about this at all with Sandra. My daughters loved the open grounds, the trampoline, and discovering new tropical fruits and how they grow.

Simply put, you will not be disappointed. And, before you leave, take advantage of Sandra's masseuse abilities. I did - twice - and I left much more relaxed than I thought I ever could be!!

      Idyllic, quiet, relaxing

Left on 06/13/2012 for a stay in May 2012

This was an idyllic place to stay. What stands out immediately are the beautifully well-maintained grounds. Carefully tended but not uptight, most of the trees are fruit bearing, and one has the impression of being in the garden of eden. Bananas, papayas, mangos, pineapples. We saw amazing birds bathing at the bird bath/little waterfall near the pool--I forget the names, but several interesting ones including at least one endemic species. Having the kitchen out of doors is a stroke of genius. This, and the many wonderful windows give a feeling of spaciousness and being outdoors at all times, yet completely private. Your windows and the pool and patio all look out onto the tree canopy that is downhill, which is excellent both both for birding and for privacy. And beyond the trees is the ocean. A fantastic view.

The pool and the hot tub were both fantastic, especially in the beautiful weather. It would have been easy just to stay there and never go out at all.

My friends had some work to do during their stay as well, and the internet was fast and reliable. Sandy was friendly and helpful while leaving us our space and our privacy. Because of the layout of the place, one has the feeling of having the whole place to oneself.

If we had wanted to cook, there were all the necessaries, though we were lazy and mostly ate out--amazing ceviche and poke are nearby, as are fantastic snorkeling, manta rays, and surfing lessons. Not to be missed!

we absolutely loved our stay here--the apartment has windows on all sides looking out over a garden with every tropical fruit tree and flower you can think of, including pineapples and papaya! Sandy even left bananas from the garden out on the table for us when we arrived. everything was very clean, comfortable, private, and quiet. there is a huge patio with a pool and a hot tub, so you can swim and look out at the ocean below at the same time. it is close to lots of amazing beaches, snorkeling, hiking, etc--a great place to come back to after adventures.

      Amazingly luxurious retreat!

Left on 05/24/2012 for a stay in May 2012

We stayed here for a week for the last leg of our honeymoon. We'd been to San Francisco and Los angeles and had been non-stop sightseeing so we really wanted the opportunity to relax and unwind before heading for home. This was just the perfect place! We could just do our own thing and take our time in the most beautiful surroundings. I've read it on here but it is so true - the photos do not do it justice. There were moments when we sat on the swing chair, in the hammock or in the hot tub drinking champagne and watching the amazing sunsets and just could not believe how perfect the moment was.
It's like a home away from home only better! The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. towels, books, dvds and inflatables. Even a huge trampoline and some friendly wandering chickens. The fruit trees are luscious and delicious and Sandra encouraged us to help ourselves - we made lemonage and I ate my own body weight in papya!
Sandra was lovely and really welcoming without being intrusive. She had picked us some fresh fruit for our arrival which we thought was a lovely touch. I became addicted to fresh papyas and custard apples from the garden and my husband fell in love with the steam room and outdoor cooking! It really is a special place!
We were there in the rainy season so we had sunshine in the morning and late afternoon but it tended to be cloudy in the day. We spent some time at the beach and visited the volcano one day. The rest of the time we just relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful place. The winds are really helpful in cooling you down in the sun and the view of the sun over the sea is breathtaking. It's hard not to repeat myself because I feel like I can't do this place justice! Just take my word for it! Fabulous!!!
Oh, you will need a car!

      Perfect romantic getaway.

Left on 03/22/2012 for a stay in February 2012

Kona Heaven's Hideaway was a perfect vacation for my husband and I. We had been to the Big Island before and indulged in all the touristy things so this place was great private getaway for two weeks for us! We enjoyed amazing sunsets while cooking our dinner in the wonderful outdoor kitchen. My husband loves to grill so the charcoal grill was perfect for him. Every night after dinner we would sit in the hot tub under the stars...heaven! We woke every morning to the birds chirping and went for walks after having our morning Kona coffee. There are some awesome steep hills around there to give a good workout! After enjoying a great breakfast we would either relax by the pool or go find a beach. It was so quiet and beautiful that we hated to leave to go anywhere! Kailua and it's eating & shopping places are only a short distance away so that was a daily excursion for us. We went on a helicopter tour of the entire island and the volcano the second to the last day that we were there and that was absolutely the best experience, taking us to places that you could never get to by car. So we had all our touring done in 2 hours! I would recommend Blue Hawaii Helicopter tours to anyone. We so enjoyed all the fresh fruit from Sandra's orchard, unfortunately the papaya's were not ripe yet so we got some at the Farmer's Market in Kailua which is a great place to get fresh fruit. The great room and the bathroom and shower were so spacious and bright, but aside from sleeping we spent all our time there on the patio and outdoor kitchen. I would definitely return and recommend Sandra's place highly! She's a wonderful lady and hostess. She also gives a great theraputic massage (my husband and I both had one). This place was everything we expected and more. Thanks Sandra for an awesome stay!

Perfect get away for family or just a couple.

Left on 12/26/2011 for a stay in December 2011

I can't say enough good things about our vacation at this home. I did tons of hours of research looking for a vacation rental on-line. I kept coming back to this one as it had it's own pool and hot tub, which not that many did, and the price was very reasonable.. I had some trepidations about sharing the home as this is a basement rental. Turned out that this home is very private like it says. I couldn't have been more pleased. Now for the good stuff. The pool and spa were fantastic. We loved the outdoor kitchen and covered patio area's. The views were very good as we watched the sunsets and the boats come and go from a little harbor. The grounds were gorgeous and filled with flowers and fruit trees. This is such a good place I actually wish that we had more time just to enjoy the views, pool, etc.. Another great feature is this homes location. I had never been on Hawaii before and didn't really know the island at all. I knew that Kono was the dry side and that was about it. This home is close to just about everything we did. Costco is just down the hill, but the home is in a quite residential neighborhood. Kono Diving Company, (which I have to highly recommend as well. You absolutely have to do the night Manta Ray snorkel or dive. We did the snorkel and it's worth coming to the island just by itself. Research this, you wont be disappointed), is also just down the hill about 10 minutes away. It's about as centrally located between the volcano and Hilo as well, both of which we visited in day trips. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. I think you can email me from what I see below in this review, so feel free to do so.
This trip was a big deal for my family of four, something we can't afford very often, but I would not even considered staying anywhere else on the big island, and will plan on coming back some day. Thank you Sandra for this rental and a place we will remember always!

We had the best time at the Kona Heavens Hideaway. Sandra is fantastic and her home is simply perfect in every way. The view is to die for, the tradewinds keep the temperature just right even though it may be very hot down in Kona and it is located close to everything. We have stayed at the property twice and will not even consider staying anywhere else when we visit the Big Island.

We spent 7 nights at Sandras lovely home on the hill. Our only regret was that she was not there! The home was beautifully maintained, located close to everywhere and overall just wonderful. My 12 year old twins appreciated the yard and chickens! My husband, who can no longer get around well, appreciated the lack of stairs and beautiful view. It was our first time to the Big Island and loved that real feel of the area as well as the people.

We just finished our stay at the Kona Heaven's Hideaway, and wow! This place is unbelievable! For a decent price, you get total privacy in a little jungle paradise, with your own private pool/hot tub deck with views of the Kona Coast and sunset.
The entire downstairs belongs to you which includes a very large main room with large bathroom and shower, nice outdoor kitchen, and large pool and hot tub deck. There is also an outdoor shower that my girlfriend and I used everyday. Taking a shower while watching the sunset.
The pool deck that you walk out onto from your large room is spectacular. We took pics of the sunset from the pool deck every night. The house is located around 1200 feet of elevation, nestled high on the slopes of Hualalai Volcano. This provides spectacular views of the coast,& Kona's famous sunsets.
Next to the pool, you walk down into the jungle paradise below. We strolled there every morning sipping our Kona coffee and listened to the jungle birds while munching on jungle fruits that grow there -the sweet Star Fruits were the best! There is also a volleyball net and trampoline on the property.
Sandra, our host, was wonderful. The woman promises you privacy, and that is exactly what you get. She leaves you alone the entire time, unless you need something. She provides everything- pool stuff, games for kids, even an acoustic guitar! She also provides exceptional massages. My girlfriend said, it was "the best massage of my life”. The place is so private that my girlfriend is coming home with no tan lines!
This place is perfect- perfect for a romantic getaway, perfect for a small family (there is a 2nd br with twin beds and laundry facilities), perfect to have your friends over for a barbecue to view the amazing sunsets, etc. We will definitely be returning here. This could possibly be one of Kona's best kept secrets, and at such a fair price! Five stars!
