Dallas, TexasBig House with Plenty of Room for Kids to Play
Left on 12/23/2011 for a stay in October 2011
My family and I, from Texas, stayed here for 8 weeks from October to December of 2011. The house is big with plenty of room for the 6 of us. It has a large yard/rock paved area that is fully walled in and secure for the kids to run around. Antony the owner was easy to work with, David the property manager was also very helpful, and James the grounds keeper was very friendly and helpful opening the gate anytime we needed to let our driver in or out. We had originally booked the house for 6 weeks and needed to extend our stay, they worked with us and allowed us to stay in the house even though it was originally booked up.
The house is a duplex with an identical layout on both sides, so you will have neighbors sometimes. We only had neighbors for 2 of the 8 weeks we were there and they were all very friendly. We could only ever hear them when they were outside, the walls on the inside are very thick and we were never disturbed by our neighbors. The hot water heaters had plenty of hot water in both bathrooms, the kitchen was small but usable. The living area and the master bedroom are both very large. The other 2 bedrooms are decent size for kids or single adults to stay in.
James, his wife, and their 3 kids live behind the house. James was very friendly and helpful while we were there. The kids do run and play on the property, sometimes peaking in the windows out of curiosity. The house is not super quiet, there is a lot of noise form the road and the local businesses sometimes play music into the night. I'm not sure its any louder than most places you can rent in Kampala, but if you are looking for no noise and no kids playing, you might keep looking. This is definitely a family friendly home, we never worried we were being too loud or bother anyone.
Other good things about the house: it was very affordable for a large group compared to most guesthouses that charge per person. There is fruit stands, a chapati stand, and a small supermarket literally right outside the gate. Neighborhood felt very safe to walk around even after dark, everyone was very friendly to us travelers. The people that run the supermarket across the street were exceptionally friendly and helpful with any questions we had. A little further down the road is a hotel and a bar. You can pay for use of the satellite by the month. Antony was quick and very fair with the final bill after we left, utility charges were very reasonable.
A few downsides: A little far out, you will need a driver to go anywhere if you are not comfortable with public transport. Power went out at least 1 time a day, sometimes for only about 1 hour, sometimes for 6-7, then 1 time it was out for 48 hours due to a line being down. Battery backup is nice, but it didn't seem to be working correctly and would die in a couple of hours on our side of the house. The other side seemed to have a better battery. -

The Cecilia House was great. Making a reservation and communicating with antony and David was a cinch, and they were both very responsive. The house was very nice, and the home and the grounds were well kept. James, the guard/property maintenance guy, was very kind and helpful throughout our entire stay. I would definitely stay there again!

Very glad to find this web site the house exceeded expectations. Good location in Zana near to shops, and a nice hotel with beer garden 2mins away (pal Suites).
House was clean, everything worked very comfortable.
James the guard was very helpful, opened the gates even late at night. He was always around to help with any problems. David the agent was only a phone call away and was very helpful. The service run by antony in the UK was great just a phone call, send a deposit and the house is yours when you arrive.
I will certainly use again on our next trip.
