Seattle, WANice Condo
Left on 04/18/2013 for a stay in April 2013
The condo was lovely, but all appliances, including TV, are difficult to figure out without consulting the manuals located in the kitchen. The private beach had wonderful snorkeling, with pretty fish and turtles. The island is short on good snorkeling beaches, so this was a nice benefit. Hapuna Beach is just a short drive north, and that is good for boogie boarding, etc. Otherwise, the Mauna Lani resort is a distance from most places, so be prepared to drive unless you just enjoy hanging out at the resort. You will probably have to drive to Kailua-Kona (a good 30-minute drive) for grocery shopping, since the little grocery store on-site is very small with limited selection. We had very noisy neighbors above us the first three nights who must have had difficulty sleeping. They woke us up regularly during those three nights moving furniture, knocking over a lamp/bowl, etc. The only recommendation I would make to abbey, though, is have the towels washed in bleach. The towels are used by strangers and the guests are asked to wash as many towels as possible at check-out, with the maid finishing up, and only regular all is used for washing towels. I couldn't help but wonder if they were sanitized, and the ones I washed before check-out definitely weren't, since all I had to use was the all provided by abbey.

Left on 03/06/2013 for a stay in February 2013
The owners have provided their guests with all the comforts they themselves appreciate including a very well appointed kitchen. This year, the construction going on across the way was a noisy bother, but all this work should be done by next year.

Like other folks who stayed in this condo unit, it has a nice personal touch of artwork and furniture which is appreciated. Used the grill a lot for meal time. Nice open kitchen, great for families.

Because of when we visited, we had an exceptional amount of choices of which Condo to stay in Mauna Lani--including a much larger upstairs unit in the same building for about the same price. I think it would be hard to make a bad choice at the Palm Villas--the location is ideal, the complex is impeccably kept, and the private beach is walking distance and one of the nicest around with great snorkeling. We chose this unit because the artwork in the condo was so appealing, and it seemed like it was the owner's real home (as opposed to merely a place to rent out)--which it absolutely was. The condo was comfortable enough for an active family to enjoy with furnishings and supplies (such as beach equipment, cooking gear, linens, books, music--even a sheaf of favorite recipes) that were high quality and thoughtfully collected and shared. Again, the artwork and the decor was beautiful and fun and added to our relaxation. We felt great staying there. You will too.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hale Malino. It's like staying with friends who have thought of every detail. The furnishings were lovely, the kitchen was well equipped, and we made good use of the snorkeling gear and the beach towels, mats, umbrellas, chairs, and toys. The Foodland grocery is convenient -- great hula show on Monday evenings -- and we also enjoyed walking the nearby trails to the fish ponds and the petroglyphs. The private beach was a short drive, and it offered the best snorkeling we encountered this trip -- calm, protected, with lots of coral and fish. Beautiful, relaxing, all in all a great Hawaiian vacation. Thanks.

My husband and 2 college kids just spent a week in this lovely condo. We had been so busy in our lives with work and college and needed some ahhh time. This was a great place for that. We did a little sight seeing, golfing and some beach time. The beach grill is awesome! The crew is fabulous! The condo was perfect, had everything and some. Thanks for the use of the snorkel geer, beach towels and bags. The Foodland store has everything you could possible think of. Thanks sooo much!!!

We were able to check in early. The condo was ready at 1PM. Extremely clean! Stocked with all essentials and very clear instructions. The unit was just stunning and lived up to the photos on line. We were delighted. Sue and Susan(?) were wonderful.
My only wish was that there were addresses to the places that are mentioned in the helpful booklet. I had my GPS but no internet access so it was tough to find my way around the area.
My parents loved the pool area.
It was a lovely experience I would certainly recommend to my friends -

The condo was beautifully furnished, the kitchen was fully equipped with everything one might need(we didn't cook dinner but had breakfast and made sandwiches)and the hosts provided snorkel sets, boogie boards and beach chairs. As others have mentioned, it was about a 10 minute walk to the beach via beautiful natural lagoons. (There is also a small volcanic tube on the path which was fun to explore). The hosts have every book on Hawaii you might be interested in-- be sure to look through the thick guidebook. We discovered it the second to last day of our visit and took a recommended hike through the lava fields to an empty beach south of the Mauna Lani resort... the guide also mentions a cave not far from Mauna Kea, but we didn't have time for that. This was a fabulous place to stay for my husband and two college-age kids home for spring break.

Hale Malino is a lovely spot to use as a home base to explore the Big Island. We were there for our friend's wedding in Puako and stayed over a week so as to fully enjoy the Kohala coast. Tastefully decorated, great poolside location, cool neighbors and every cooking apparatus you could possibly dream of using, down the milk frother for your Kona cap in the morning. Can I move in?

Left on 06/05/2010 for a stay in May 2010
This was our 2nd trip to the Big Island. The first time we stayed just south of Kona on alii Drive and this time we decided to stay in the Kohala area. After researching the alternatives, we settled on the Mauna Lani Resort. There are a number of different developments in the Mauna Lani area but the Palm Villas seemed to fit with us. It is a great value and is located next to a walking path which takes you to fascinating, tranquil, historic fish ponds, and to a lovely beach where one can swim, snorkel, etc.
Hale Malino has everything you'll need for a relaxing, fun-filled vacation. It has a great ground-floor location; the lanai looks out on the beautifully landscaped grounds, the well-designed pool and hot tub, and majestic Mauna Kea. The condo is impeccably furnished, with lots of local artwork, everything you need for cooking, grilling, etc., and lots of great cds, books, etc.
Hale Malino has everything you need for a wonderful Hawaiian vacation. Feel free to call us if you want any more info. -

Our family has been coming to the Kohala Coast area of the Big Island for the past 3 years. We have stayed at resorts, and other condos. However, this rental week was more like a home than any other place we have stayed.
We enjoy being able to cook and not have to eat out for meals. The kitchen had all the amenities and more that made cooking a joy.
Our two teenage girls ages 15 and 17 loved being able to pop over to the pool in the morning, afternoon or evening. They also enjoyed being so close to walking paths. My one daughter an Art mjor anjoyed photgraphing the area surounding Palm Villas.
I would highly recommend this particular unit to others. However, because it is so nicely furnished I would recommend it to individuals with older children. The atmosphere is suited for the family/couple that enjoy the tranquility of the island.
The family that owns this home certainly has taken the time to make sure the guests are comfortable in every manner.
Sincerely,
David & Suzanne Pollock

Staying at this property is truly paradise. You wake up in a beautiful apartment which is a short walk to a peaceful beach and you already feel like you have been on vacation for a week; and it's only the first day of your time here. Each day you discover more and more unique features about the property and the amenities which are so easily within reach. Want to take a trip to Kona, it is only 30 minutes down the road, groceries a ten minute walk, some of the most exquisite beaches on the planet drive ten minutes in any direction and you can find one or ten. A great experience all around and perfectly equipped home away from home. A dream vacation in every way. Thanks!

This was the first time my husband and I and our two children stayed in a condo instead of a resort and we loved it! I highly recommend Palm Villa 13. It is located in the back of a small condo complex making it quiet and private. The Palm Villas itself is beautifully landscaped and has a great pool. The condo was super comfortable and had everything we needed. We were so cozy we felt like we were at home. Thank you Abbey Vacations and to the owner of Palm Villa 13.

What a wonderful vacation we had while staying at
the Palm Villas condominium. The condo is decorated
like a showroom and yet is incredibly warm and
inviting. When we arrived it was so clean that we
thought we may have been the only visitors to ever
visit. The view is breathtaking with lava rock and
such beautiful flowers and greenery that we walked
around and took pictures to frame in our home in
Chicago. We had so many wonderful excursions and
would like to let you know our thoughts. The first
day we enjoyed a visit to the onsite Foodland Farms
to fill up our refrigerator. The staff there are so
nice and helpful and it had everything we needed.
We then spent the afternoon at the beautiful onsite
pool-so relaxing and beautiful. We recommend highly
the Canoe House restaurant at the onsite hotel. We
enjoyed our Blue Hawaiian helicopter ride, but
thought it would be more up close to the volcanoes
and waterfalls. We enjoyed Volcano National Park-
worth the drive!Beware-the eyes can sting from the
sulfer and it is very cold at this altitude. We
took an incredible rolling hills ride to the town
of Hawi to experience some real local stores and
food-Sushi Rock is fabulous!! We ended our visit at
the Island Breeze Luau. We would not do it
again, but it is nice to go one time to really
experience a full Luau. Do not expect a fancy
evening-you sit with other people at cheap tables
with plastic seats and plastic cups with water and
kool-aid pitchers. The buffet food was not great,
but, once again, nice to really see what the full
array of Hawaiian food is. The host was very
cheesy, but the cast of dancers were great and the
best part was the fire dancer!! A great stay, a new
love for the incredibly changing landscape on the
Big Island and a fabulous tan to take back with us
to Chicago.

We just returned from spending about a week at the property and we could not have been happier. The place was well decorated, clean and in a great location right next to the Mauna Lani Spa and a short walk via trail to the beach club.
The kitchen was well stocked with everything you would need to grill or prepare meals. Also, in addition to the in unit laundry, the owner had stocked the place with beach gear and towels so you can pack lightly.
I would recommend this place to others without hesitation and plan on being back the next time we're at the Big Island.
One side note... there is no door between the master bath and bedroom. It didn't bother us, but if you're looking for a little privacy the glass shower in full view of the bed may not be your thing.

Left on 04/08/2009 for a stay in March 2009
We knew we wanted to stay @ Mauna Lani and this condo complex was perfect for our family of four (2 adults, 8yr old & 11 yr old). It was smaller than the other condo complexes @ Mauna Lani which we wanted and this unit (all units in fact) was/were very close to the pool/hottub. There was a walking trail just outside the security gate through lava to the Beach Club & through the fishponds, a beautiful & fun walk, maybe 15 mins long? The unit was lovely with modern appliances, microwave, washer/dryer, great supply of china, flatware and glass/plasticware, beach towels, great backpack cooler, snorkel gear, boogie boards, beach tote, beach mats...Minor inconveniences were: sliding glass door didn't lock - but once we called Abbey they responded ASAP; Dishwasher left detergent residue in glasses and dishes didn't actually seem to get very clean, I had to hand wash some from every load we did; there were actually dirty dishes and flatware put away in the cabinets - very obvious syrup and food material on plates and flatware, so I had to run a load before we even used the plates/flatware; small bath towels in master and only 2 of them, couldn't find any additional ones which I thought was odd; we never could get the ice maker working, kept trying but it kept getting jammed; would have been nice if there was a spice rack as the kitchen only had oil, syrup and a lemon salt (I think). And a comment on the complex hottub, it was lukewarm in the morning, perhaps they turn it down after hours but my kids were bummed when they would try to use it during the morning/early afternoon and each time it wasn't hot. Overall we loved the location & the unit, found Abbey helpful when I contacted them, and would definitely recommend this complex.

The villa we chose was very well decorated and clean. The location was perfect for us and everything we experienced was as advertised. Our friend lives in one of the other villas in the development so it was extremely convenient for us to stay there. We would definitely go back!
The only complaint we had was that the towels had not been washed/dried properly and had a "musty" smell to them. We had to wash the towels again before we could use them.
All in all, we wish we could've stayed longer! -
