De Mole River Cattle Farm is 8,000 acres of largely untouched wilderness, home to a vast number of Australian native animals and a true representation of rural Australia.

The rolling pastures of the farmland give way onto rich scrub land and even some areas that would have one believing they're in the midst of a rainforest. A real delight for those who enjoy walking and taking in ever changing scenery.

      Quality experience, accommodation and scenery

Left on 05/05/2013 for a stay in April 2013

We travelled with a group of friends and the lodge was fabulous. We loved drinks on the balcony overlooking the hills, had plenty of space, loved cooking dinners in the kitchen and sharing meals in the lovely space. I couldn't wait to wake up each morning to see the view from my bed and wander in the quiet. We all walked the hills- quite a heart starter, but the coastline views were worth it. A great place to start day trips to see seals, marron, visit wineries and enjoy time together. Thanks Sarah for your warm welcome. I am spreading the word about how wonderful KI and the lodges are, and keep looking back to our photos.

Beautiful secluded beach... Forget your formal-wear, just bring some sensible shoes.

So much to do or a great place to do nothing.

Miles from civilisation, yet so civilised. If there is a chef amongst you and some good wine, it would get 6 stars.

Outstanding Stay - Private, Relaxing, Spectacular Surrounds

Left on 03/06/2013 for a stay in February 2013

My partner and I stayed at Kangaroo Beach Lodges for 4 nights. It was an absolutely spectacular place. The lodge was clean, modern and fitted out with everything we needed (and more). I cannot say enough good things about the lodge. The design was top notch - the breeze through with the sheltered outdoor table and that deck overlooking the beach was superb.

Sarah and Stuart (the owners of the homestead) were brilliant and made us feel so welcome. Nothing was too much trouble! Sarah even baked us bread and had fresh eggs for us on arrival (a handy thing because groceries are an hour drive into Kingscote).

Great wildlife all around - roos, koala (at the homestead), dolphins, the resident groper down at the beach (not as scary as that sounds) and wild piglets at our gate! We were glad to have a 4-wheel drive vehicle for the trip and would do so again.

Only a few wee ticks against this place... the master bedroom bed is actually two mattresses put together and has quite a lump in the middle - dividing you from your loved one. We loved that they supplied us with beach towels but could have used a second bath towel each because it was quite humid and things took a long time to dry. The beach was spectacularly beautiful and very private for the most part. Occasionally, however, there were visitors who turned up (eg. not people staying the lodges). Whilst their presence wasn't a problem, we'd hoped they'd be more respectful of this special space. Instead, after a day of fishing a group left the remains of 5 large tuna to rot on the rocks and another group decided to let their dog run free whilst they relaxed - all fine except they didn't bother pick up after their dog on the beach.

All in all though this was a spectacular trip. So glad we did it and we'll definitely be back. Kangaroo Beach Lodges are perfect for relaxing. Plan to come and do nothing except soak in the gorgeous surrounds and you won't be disappointed.

      Best beach house in australia

Left on 01/25/2013 for a stay in January 2013

5 stars really doesnt do Kangaroo Beach Lodges justice. We have just returned from 7 magical days, where we swam in the beautiful, clear waters of Kangaroo Beach (safe for our 3 small children), fished off the rocks, snorkelled with the resident Groper, lounged on the beach, went marroning in the river, watched the sea eagles fly overhead, spotted wallabies and echidnas on the back roads of the farm, and star gazed at night whilst lying in bed. The hospitality shown by our hosts, Stuart and Sarah, was exceptional - the freshly made bread and provisions awaiting us on arrival was a lovely surprise. The lodges too are luxuriously outfitted without losing their beach house vibe. We will be back!

Absolutely fabulous accommodation! Didn't expect it to look like the photos so much but it looked exactly the same! Our minds were absolutely blown away from the moment we came through the gate!
So modern but homely and comfortable! Furnishings were magnificent, comfortable beds, amazing kitchen and all the extras just 'made' the stay!
The location was just mind blowing! Never seen views like it! Nothing getting in the way of the views and the other lodges are far enough away for complete privacy! Even the view from the shower was stunning!
The whole living space was our favourite part of the lodge! Stuart & Sarah were happy to help with any enquiry we had!

The only problem we could see was the pest control on the exterior of the lodge- a bit more care with cleaning cob-webs and controlling the spiders was needed!

Will definitely recommend to friends- a holiday worth every cent!

Kangaroo Beach Lodges the best place we have ever stayed!

Waking up in the middle of the night looking at the stars was stunning. Everything you could ask for was provided in the lodge,we had 3 glorious days, our only disappointment was that we didn't see the groper! I would recommend Kangaroo Beach Lodge highly.

      Reunion of friends

Left on 11/20/2012 for a stay in November 2012

The Kangaroo Beach Lodges is an unbelievable location with wonderful facilities, views, privacy and absolute comfort. The house was great value when shared by 3-4 couples - absolutely perfect for our stay.
Being organised with food, drinks etc is a must as it is very isolated location and a long way to get anything that you run out of. The booking office and managers were so helpful and put us onto a caterer -Island Source, so the task of shopping and food preparation for 7 people was eliminated. All we had to do was toss, heat, present and BBQ brilliant fresh local produce including seafood, marron, crayfish, prawns, lamb and chicken.
It was wonderful to be able to have that extra glass of champagne or two with dinner knowing that no-one had to drive. We danced and sang, taking us back to the times that we partied in the 70's without the fear of disturbing our neighbours.
We really enjoyed the walking and photography down to the beach and around the property and then going further afield to visit some of the great Kangaroo Island sites.
The choice of great wines and champagne was a little disappointing in Kingscote although we managed to over cater for our needs.
We all had a great time together for the 5 days on the Island.

Left on 11/19/2012 for a stay in October 2012

From the very beginning we felt like we were in a very special and exclusive place. A private and secluded place set in a beautiful natural environment with animals, birds and fish everywhere. Drive slowly, walk quietly, look carefully and you will see them. The lodges are beautifully designed with absolutely stunning views - the photos do not do it justice! It is so nice and relaxing to be in a place that is designed so well and is so comfortable. The ocean breezes bring the sea air and wildlife noises inside making you feel part of this place immediately. And the lodges have everything - we felt like we were borrowing a wealthy friend's "weekender". Say hi to the Sea Eagle that cruises in every afternoon and you must try the shower with the door open!

Beautiful, rugged, remote getaway on Kangaroo Island

Left on 10/03/2012 for a stay in September 2012

One can only admire the creative mind behind Kangaroo Beach Lodges. My husband and I had four wonderful nights in this very well-designed, beautifully situated lodge/house and didn't want to leave. We'd stocked up on fresh food and local wine in Kingscote (and also stopped at the Island Pure Dairy for yoghurt and cheese) and then just enjoyed the views, local walks and complete rest in an inspiring setting. The views are beautiful and the roar of the surf on the private beach below the lodges lulled us off to sleep each night. We've travelled a lot throughout australia and overseas, and this ranks as one of our best experiences.

Luxury accommodation overlooking your own private beach!

Left on 05/04/2012 for a stay in April 2012

The one and a half hour drive from the ferry terminal is time well spent. We were one of 4 couples staying for 4 nights to explore the large national parks at the west end of KI. Remember to take all your food and drink (although this can be arranged) as the nearest 'deli' is 45 minutes away. But this is definitely my sort of camping!
We were met by farmer/manager, Stewart, on the way in who showed us to our cottage and gave us a comprehensive tour. Couldn't be more helpful. Same applies to his wife, Sarah, who had rung earlier in the day to confirm the arrival time and was always available if we needed anything.
The layout of the cottage and quality of the furnishings matched the location, with 3 bathrooms, all with ocean views adding to the experience.

Despite being late april we were happy to test the Southern Ocean and were thrilled to be met by a 'local'...a massive, but very friendly Groper. Each day we would drive to one of the many walks available at that end of the Island, do enough exercise to earn our lunch and head back to our tranquil surroundings for the rest of the day. WiFi and Cable TV worked well for those who needed it, although books and cards tended to be our entertainment choices.

Comfortably accommodated the 4 couples which made the whole experience very good value as well. Highly recommended

While there will be no 'riders' here, I would argue that a four wheel drive is necessary. Now to the review: in every respect our stay was excellent. Stuart and Sarah's wonderful preparation of the lodge (with freshly baked bread on top of all the other goodies) meant that we could settle in immediately and in comfort and style. The lodge housed our family of eight very easily and its luxuriousness was a very welcome surprise. Certainly my children (and grandchildren) plan a return visit. What an amazing location on an island that already almost defies description. It is so very beautiful. The kayaks were also very welcome and absolutely added to the joy of our stay. Thank you! There was nothing we liked least. Yes, it is fair drive to anywhere but the quiet and privacy compensated for that; of course the view and the lodge really left nothing to 'want'. Again, we all thank you.
While we obviously have nice photos I can't seem to download them from my new toy, my iPad, but your own photos do do justice to the location. If you let us we may see you a again.

Left on 12/01/2011 for a stay in November 2011

Our party was three stressed out city couples. We couldn't fault the service, from the commencement of the reservation process to finding that our every whim was catered for in our accommodation. The manager rang me the day before our arrival to ensure all our questions were answered. Our lodge comfortably accommodated our party, preserving our privacy as couples, with excellent facilities. The bathroom per couple was perfect. The kitchen was particularly well equipped enabling our 'foodie' creativity to be indulged. The location was wonderfully quiet, and the quiet cove was great for fishing and swimming. We admired the architectural thoughtfulness of our lodge. Our only concern were some noisy neighbours who moved into the neighbouring lodge on our last evening. And, if water resources would allow it, a heated plunge pool would have been enjoyable.

Left on 10/26/2011 for a stay in December 2010

As an ex-pat we wanted to come back to adelaide for a holiday but also wanted to do something a bit different. We'd stayed in the wine regions a number of times so Kangaroo Island seemed like the ideal alternative, promising sandy beaches and fresh seafood.

The flight over was quick and easy as was picking up a rental car at the airport. We stocked up on supplies in Kingscote then headed off to Kangaroo Beach Lodges.

The photos on the website don't lie. The location is superb, with the architecture of the lodges blending perfectly into the landscape. The private beach is stunning and we swam every day.

The wildlife is also great - we spotted several dolphins and seals playing in the water throughout our stay.

Inside, the lodges are tastefully appointed, with excellent facilities. It's easy to cook a formal meal for 10 in the kitchen or whip up a casual BBQ on the deck. Six of us stayed in one of the lodges and there was plenty of room for people to do their own thing or get together to socialise.

All in all, for a relaxing getaway with a group, Kangaroo Beach Lodges gets it right - a beautiful setting with first class accommodation at the right price.

This is the serenity 'The Castle' hinted at...

Left on 09/27/2011 for a stay in September 2011

We initially found Kangaroo Beach Lodges while searching for much cheaper accommodation on the internet but even the images over the net were enough to lure us to this hidden yet spectacular oasis. And when we finally rounded the last corner and saw the view from what would be home for the next 5 days, well we really understood the meaning of breathtaking.

The next morning as we sat sunning on the deck overlooking the cove we felt the peace roll over us like the swell rolled over the rocks at the base of the cliffs of our own private cove.

There was no doubt that we had left our busy and complicated lives behind. As our phones had no reception, the stress of modern living including being contactable 24/7 was removed (you'll need Telstra if you want to use your mobile - though there is a landline should you choose to acknowledge it - we didn't) and like the resident white bellied sea eagles rising on the sea thermals, we too let go and just were...

Ki is a gorgeous place and we did explore but the advice to not drive after dusk was a very good excuse to ensure we were 'home' in time each evening to soak up that incredible coastline and it's energy - not to mention the sense that there was just us, only us.

If you're willing to spoil yourself all you need do is book and turn up - the rest will take care of itself.

There is plenty to do, but it is also a magnificent place to do nothing. I thought places like this with such practicle and comfortable facilities, coupled with scenery that you cant do justice describing, only appeared in movies until we stood in the picture window over looking the magnificent bay. It was instant relaxation.

      Paradise on earth

Left on 09/16/2011 for a stay in December 2010

There are some places which require you to take the photos with a grain of salt. Not these lodges! If possible they are even better. You cannot capture the tranquility, the colours, and the changing light in photos.

This place is truly paradise complete with local wandering grouper and an abundance of nature of all sorts...and that isnt code for flies because the gentle breezes seem to magically keep them away. Indeed the only sign of life indoors was a rather mysterious moose head donated by the owners talented sculpter friend.

Seriously, this place has everything from a beach at the bottom of the garden to a bread maker. We were there over New Year and they even threw in a thunder storm so we got fireworks.

The lodges themselves are clearly designed by an architect who knew what he was doing. They trap breezes and sun in interesting ways, and are modern but still comfortable. This isnt flashy city living. This is a modern interpretation on the beach hut that, frankly, I dodnt want to leave
