About Kangaroo Island
The Geography
Kangaroo Island is Australia's third-largest island after Tasmania and Melville Island.
It is 112 kilometres (70 miles) southwest of Adelaide at the entrance of the Gulf of St Vincent.
At its closest point to the mainland, it is 13 kilometres (8 miles) offshore from Cape Jervis, on the tip of the Fleurieu Peninsula in the state of South Australia. The island is 150 km (93 miles) long and between 900 m (980 yards) and 57 km (35 miles) wide, its area covering 4,405 km2 (1,701 sq miles).
Its coastline is 540 kilometres (340 miles) long and highest altitude is 307 m (1,010 feet). It is separated from Yorke Peninsula to the northwest by Investigator Strait and from Cape Jervis to the northeast by Backstairs Passage.
Island Beach
Island Beach is located in the Dudley Peninsula, on the north east coast of the island. The nearest seaside village is Penneshaw, where the Sealink Ferries arrive from the mainland. From Island Beach, you have the pure viewing pleasure of the Eastern Cove, from American River to Rock Point.
Kangaroo Island
Kangaroo Island is a pristine wilderness - a place that has offered protection to substantial populations of native Australian animals, a place of beauty and a place of escape. Kangaroo Island (or 'KI' as the locals call it) is also big and surprisingly diverse.
If you traverse its 155km length you'll find soaring cliffs, dense forest, towering sand dunes, wetlands and massive arcs of bone white beach.
But just because it's wild, don't underestimate the welcome... Some 4,400 folk live here, most of them primary producers, many of them descended from Islanders who have farmed the land and fished the seas for generations. Naturally enough, being surrounded by fertile lands and rich waters, Kangaroo Island produces some of Australia's finest gourmet foods.
Gastronomic adventurers should get ready to be amazed by the likes of freshly caught King George Whiting, sheep's cheese, marron, a unique variety of honey and an exciting range of varietal wines.
As if this isn't enough on your plate, you'll also find rich histories, a thriving arts community, and a range of accommodation options ranging from outdoor swags to lighthouse keeper's cottages to super-chic retreats. So we'd like to extend a wild and very warm welcome to Kangaroo Island - Australia's premier wildlife destination.

Terrific Summer Holiday with amazing sunsets
Sydney, Albury, and CaliforniaAmazing views, house neat as a pin, all perfect.
Left on 01/10/2012 for a stay in January 2012
From the moment we walked in Everyone was very impressed with everything - we were all breathless, the views, the decor, the rooms, the bathrooms, all amazing!
We were 2 families, a total of 8 people and we took the whole 2 sides - and we were thrilled that we had. Lots of space to be together but also space to have privacy.
Everything we needed was there and in perfect working order.
Great position, close to everything we wanted to do. The beach is clean and gentle even for kids.
We had a lovely time. And would be back in a heartbeat. We now have to figure out how to make that happen.
We even had a large lizard outside who showed up each day and provided lots of fun and interest from our american family particularly.
Thank you! -

We have stayed in this home from when it was first built and highly recommend. Next generation of family is renting it again this year. I am sure we will be renting again in the near future.
It has excellant opportunities for fishing, walking and exploring the Island. Also magnificent views from all angles, good facilities e.g. bathrooms, kitchens and good quality furnishings and beds.
I highly recommend it.

Island Beach Lodge is magnificent. Superby built and finished to a very high standard. The owner was very easy to deal with and very helpful indeed. Ki is a wonderful place to explore with family and friends. It is a place that everyone simply must see and the fishing is fantastic as well.

Left on 10/08/2011 for a stay in November 2010
Great beach front location, easy drive from ferry, abundant wildlife and spectacular views with dolphins morning and night. Having your own private spacious ensuite while sharing a luxurious house of this standard with 3 other couples is decadant to say the least. Very well equiped and reasonably priced. This year will be our 5th trip back.
