Here are some tips on staying at our Islander on the Beach Resort... and other recommendations.
SELECTING YOUR ROOM
Try to book a ground floor oceanfront unit. Ground floor units 131 and 151, for example, afford the better oceanviews ... here's why....
"when you are standing inside an upper floor unit looking out at the ocean your view is obstructed by the balcony railing. We have stayed in both. Because of this the ground floor units also just seem more spacious"
" On the upper floors if you are sitting at the balcony table your view of the ocean is substantially blocked by the balcony railing which is directly in your line of site."
The ground floor units give the best unobstructed ocean views and also there are no elevators at the Islander so a ground floor unit means no stairs to climb and easier access to the pool and the barbecues.

RESERVING A RENTAL CAR AT THE BEST POSSIBLE RATE
We typically use www.priceline.com and specifically, the "name your own price" feature. Put in your dates and a total amount will be shown. There will be an option to“name your own price” at that point (after they come back with their own normal pricing). It’s a small button you push that is next to the price they quoted you.
We start at $11/day and work your way up. We've never paid more than $18/day plus the taxes and fees they charge, which are a lot! This rate is for the smallest car.
Keep in mind, for priceline process above, once you get the bid, it’s yours! No getting out of the contract. They are “sticklers”!!
Another very good option for you and one that Bev and I often use is discounthawaiicarrental.com
WHAT TO DO AND WHAT TO SEE

"A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE
This was a perfect location and 'home away from home' for me. . Everything was exactly as stated, and the instructions for checking in and managing things in the Condo were very clear and easy to follow. The place was very clean, the view was beautiful (seriously - steps from the beach), and the bed was super comfy, and there were lots of little extras, that were pleasant surprises. I would definitely stay here, should I be fortunate enough to come back to Kaua'i.
In addition to the great Condo, and a wonderful experience on the island, all of the communication and coordination prior to arrival was so easy, and Brad was so helpful and responsive, that it made that process go so smoothly. It was a pleasure "
We wish you a most wonderful trip to the beautiful, mystical and magical island of Kauai.

Dear reviewer ............. I think you are confusing 131 with another property you stayed at. As you see in the photos of 131 our beach is all sand and as for swimming ... my wife and I spend 4 months in 131 over the winter and she swims in the ocean out front virtually every day.
Unit 131 - Oceanfront - Great Experience
Left on 02/21/2014 for a stay in January 2014 | CherylC
What a great unit! Oceanfront just steps from the beach, steps from the pool and steps from the poolside bar! The owners (Bob & Bev) were also staying in another of their units so any issue we had (the only one was needing a couple of more towels for the 15-day stay) were immediately remedied. The unit came with a full-sized coffee maker which was a must for us as we can't stand those little pod-makers which come with most units. It also has an oversized under the counter fridge and microwave. (We did not make use of the two-burner unit that was in the unit as well.) The bed was comfortable, there was internet in-room and the unit was clean. Be sure to bring your own shampoo, conditioner and soap (if you have sensitive skin) as none is provided (as with some condos). There is also no housekeeping provided, but unless you're a real slob is no problem as a broom and dust pan are provided to clean up the sand your feet will bring in. Not to be considered a problem with the unit itself, but there was only 1 working washing machine and 1 working drier for the entire complex for at least 4 days and it was usually difficult to get in with all machines properly working. Personally, we took our laundry into the laundromat in Kappa (just behind the Shell station and open 24/7) and got it done more quickly. I will most definitely book this unit again (if it's available)!!

Aston Islander on the Beach Unit #151

We had an amazing time in Kauai. The aston Islander on the beach was perfectly situated for our family vacation. Very close to airport, shops, restaurants, waterfalls and Wailau river. We liked that it was located in Kapaa, so going to south shore and north was not such a long distance. Very organized and easy to book. Brad gave us good tips about rental cars, even scored an awesome deal. Right from the moment we booked few months back to moment we arrived, everything was smooth and as advertised. We love the ocean room ground floor and loved the sunrise and sunset views and sound of ocean waves. I will recommend Brad and Wendy's rental to anyone visiting Kauai.

We loved this place! We got up every morning, made Kauai coffee and watch the sunrise with the other neighbors on the lanai. The unit was exactly as described and as shown in pics. The location was perfect, not just on the island but the mini community surrounding the Islander was great. Trees lounge with great food and live music (and inexpensive), access to the shops and other restaurants, wonderful people at the pool bar (both owners and visitors) giving great tips. Brad was wonderful and super responsive when booking and when we told him about a light bulb out. This was great for the 2 of us, it would be tight for any more than that. We will be back!

Brad and Wendy were great! The condo was very clean and comfortable and was footsteps to the ocean. We slept with the sliding door open and could hear the waves at night. The condo has everything you need to make yourself comfortable. A small sink including a hotplate and all of the utensils you need if you decide to make your own meals. Wi-Fi in the room and a music player to stream your Pandora or I pod. This location is a stones throw from the ocean, with a nice walking path and patio to watch the sunrise. The pool and hot tub is just around the corner. The complex has laundry for a reasonable cost and a DVD rental redbox type if you decide to rent a movie.
We are a very active couple and venture out during the day but at night it was nice to come home to a comfortable bed with a nice soak in the hot tub.
The location is about 15 minutes from the airport and is close to stores, markets, beaches and yet is very quiet and secure.
Brad and Wendy saw our late flight out and gave us an extra day so we wouldn't have to wait with our bags till 10pm. That was great service.
We enjoyed ourselves and would gladly return to Kreller's Islander Getaway!

A wonderful studio suite directly on the ocean. We loved the location mid-way on the island. Day trips up island or down island were so simple. Great location right beside coconuts market place for shopping or meals. Also close to better restaurants. Try Oasis, just 5 minutes away. The unit has so many extras that you can cook a whole meal if you want, or just have morning coffee on your patio and head out for the day. Condo has a nice cooler for day use which makes it great to plan your day with a packed lunch or just cool drinks. Very close to a mall with a Safeway and Longs drugs if you wish to stock up. We would stay here again. Owners were very easy to deal with, very quick responses to our inquiries. They also take credit cards which not all owners allow. Read more

This was a perfect location and 'home away from home' for me. I was in Kreller's #151, and it was great. Everything was exactly as stated, and the instructions for checking in and managing things in the Condo were very clear and easy to follow. The place was very clean, the view was beautiful (seriously - steps from the beach), and the bed was super comfy, and there were lots of litttle extras, that were pleasant surprises. I would definitely stay here, or in any of the Kreller's rentals, should I be fortunate enough to come back to Kaua'i.
In addition to the great Condo, and a wonderful experience on the island, all of the communication and coordination prior to arrival was so easy, and Brad was so helpful and responsive, that it made that process go so smoothly. It was a pleasure.
My trip to Kaua'i was for business (while staying at a venue in Lihue), and then I was able to take a few extra days for a little personal time, and I wanted to stay in the Kapaa area. I was delayed in making my arrangements because of some personal family issues, so by the time I was able to schedule it, a lot of the places that I looked at were no longer available. But Brad worked with me, and helped to make it possible to stay in one of their units, and it was just what I wanted - and needed. It was a perfect little respite, from my crazy work schedule, and the location was great, for exploring the area. The 'Blue Book' has lots of suggestions, and if you get a good map, you can easily navigate the island. I rented an SUV through Priceline (thanks to a tip from Brad), and got a great deal. You have to be careful, because it is a pre-pay, and locked in contract - but it was perfect for me, and I was able to get an SUV, for the same price as car rentals.
The entire experience, for me, was great, and I am really so pleased with everything about #151, and the experience that I had there. Thanks to Brad & Wendy! Much appreciate being able to stay in your beautiful Condo. Mahalo!

We had an amazing week at unit 151, the room was extremely clean and well equip with all the necessary appliances to cook our own meals and also being connected on the internet. The view was splendid and could observe Humpback whales breaching at a distance. The snorkeling was great and could swim with Sea turtles every time I got in the water(lucky I guess)and many various types of fish.

I had requested Brad for a quiet unit near the ocean, where I could hear the waves. Brad recommended unit 151. It was perfect for our purposes. This is a relatively quiet area, much like the island itself. In this unit, we could sleep with the glass door open and hear the sound of waves. We could also wake up and see the sunrise from our patio or even the bed! Brad was prompt and very helpful through the whole reservation/stay experience. Mahalo!

My boyfriend and I stayed there for a week and couldn't have had a more perfect time. The condo was very clean and I have never stayed so close to a beach before in my life. It was so relaxing, there's even a pool that is a few short steps from the condo and a nice poolside bar to go with it! I liked that there were also some movies and books in the nightstand and beach towels that we were allowed to borrow. The location was also perfect for us. Overall, a great experience and if I ever decide to return to Kauai (which was so beautiful, I think it's safe to say that I will), I will definitely want to stay at this condo again!

We had a great week-long stay in Kauai. Brad was super responsive to all questions and very helpful with tips and information.
The rental was a great location on the island and central to visiting other areas. We stayed in Rm 131 which was oceanfront and really special. It was fun having the Coconut Mall area right there for coffee, small restaurants and shops and also the Kiluea fish market at the condo. The property itself is also very pretty with beautiful flowers and trees. We had a great experience and can't wait to go back.

Everything about our visit to Kauai was perfect! We feel so blessed to have found Krellers Getaway on the Flipkey website. Brad went above and beyond to accommodate us. He was extremely courteous and prompt at responding to all emails. He was even kind enough to give us pointers on finding affordable airfare, booking a rental car, recommending activities, and recommending the best places to eat in Kauai. The condo was amazing. The two pictures were taken of the beach right outside the unit. It is a nice beach and it is swimmable, although there is no lifeguard on the beach (this was great for us though because it seemed like our own private beach). The pictures do not do it justice! Finding it from the airport and checking in was super easy (even for those who are terrible with directions). We loved the location of the condo. You are on the East side, so it is a great location for exploring the beautiful island (it is a short drive to many attractions in the North and South). We researched many other hotels and condos before we booked unit 131, and it was definitely the best bargain! We also saved a lot of money by cooking some meals in the condo. There condo has everything you need (a kitchenette, umbrellas, an ice chest, a snorkel, etc.). We did not have any issues with parking. We had such an amazing time! We cannot wait to return and when we do we will definitely stay here again!

I feel sooo very fortunate that I found Kreller's on Tripadvisor. This was my first time renting an actual vacation condo as opposed to a hotel room, so I was a bit nervous. The booking process was easy and Brad was very quick and responsive.
Kapaa is so centrally located, just minutes from the airport. Unit 131 was clean and really cute. We loved being on the first floor, stepping out onto the lanai for morning coffee, pineapple, etc., and then stepping to the beach. This beach is not one for swimming in, as most of the guidebooks mention. But there are plenty of other beaches on the island to discover. But to hear the waves all night and to see them in the morning light - a dream come true. Saw the sunrise some mornings, right outside. Having access to the pool and hot tub was also nice. It just felt very private, with no one bothering us from the hotel, and very little noise, if any, from any other units above or beside. It felt like it was only us.
The unit was exactly as pictured and promised. The kitchen items made it easy to make breakfast or dinner some nights and save money instead of doing restaurants - major grocery stores are very close. The TV looked great, but I didn't partake this trip -- too busy exploring the island. The bathroom was nice and large, with cozy, large, expensive towels - not the itchy/scratchy kind you get in most hotels. It's a well-appointed unit that's semi-masculine, not frilly. This place is a good bargain and I didn't feel taken advantage of at all. Parking wasn't always guaranteed in the official lot, but there were plenty of spaces on the street leading to the Islander complex each night. There is only one key to the unit, which may be a problem for certain larger groups staying in the unit, but there's also the lockbox for access.
A great way to get to see Kauai for the first time. Read more
I do apologize for you having only one key. Normally we do provide 2.
I will make sure the missing one is replaced and the lock barrel rekeyed.
We trust you had a fabulous time on the mystical and magical island of Kauai and will stay with us again sometime.

We rented this condo for a 10-day vacation on Kauai in May 2012. The condo is actually a standard-like hotel room to which a sink and counter has been added. This is the perfect very cost-effective accomodation if you do not plan to cook every night of your stay due to the absence of a kitchen. Otherwise, the location is great (on the beach), clean, great service by the owner, and right by Kapaa's services, which is very neat.

This place is the real thing -- I thought the reviews could not possibly be real--but they are--beautiful clean room, wifi, ocean right there, great pool, great price -- very wonderful! This is a lovely beach front condo in a very well kept complex. It is well equipped and very comfortable . The best part is listening to the waves lulling you to sleep at night, and the quick stroll right from the lanai to the comfy chaise right on the beach. Right next door, an easy walk down the beach path, is a wonderful restaurant using local ingredients and fresh local caught delicious fish, The Hukilau Lanai.

We were there at a time when there was a disaster declared by the Governor due to rain. We got to see a waterspout from the lawn seaside. There was probably 3" of water on the sidewalks, and 6-8" in the parking lot. There was a pond for maybe a mile on the main highway. Wet! We did get some mostly rainfree days, and enjoyed some of the fine Hawaiian tourist activities. Rented bikes and rode on the long beachfront trail, kayaked on the nearby river, rented a car and drove as far as possible both directions. Kaua'i is an amazing place.
Now about the rental: It was fine. Strategic location on the ground floor, looking out to the ocean, easy to walk out for a better view, or sit on the lounge chairs provided. All the amenities were provided. We had no real complaints, the place was clean when we got there, and there was no housekeeping (which we had known), so we ranked service average. It's easy to track in sand, next time we would be much more careful about that.
The grounds are beautiful, well maintained, staff pleasant. We wouldn't change anything but the weather. Read more
mahalo for reviewing your stay. We see that you rated our service average as we do not provide daily maid service. As you knew this when you booked we are at a loss to understand. We actually do provide excellent service in regard to the amenities and overall condition of our condo by way of an emergency phone number you can call for anything that is missing from beach towels to coffee filters. As you will see from other reviews our units 131 and 151 are fully equipped down to the last detail including of course WiFi.
If you require daily maid service (housekeeping) may we suggest that next time you book with the hotel, Aston Resorts, who provide this. The hotel rates are however approximately 75% higher than ours.

It was nice to have the extra fridge for all our POG! The bed was the best (I want one at home) and the linens were very soft. There is nothing better than a good nights sleep in paradise. The pool is just a stones throw from the room taking but a minute to walk to a from the pool and hot tub and the area was very well maintained. The view from the balcony was beautiful and eating our breakfast outside every morning was a great way to start the day. I would and will highly recommend this unit to couples.

We stayed at 323 for 10 days in Jan /2012. It was one of those dream vacations right on the beach. The location is perfect. We did the tourist things for the first 4 days but could hardly wait to drop off the car so we could just enjoy being at our condo. The grounds, pool and beach were just what we wanted. Every morning grabbing a coffee and watching the the red sunrise, or watching the whales breach, amazing. We fell in love with Kapaa and the walk to town. Loved happy hour at the pool, everyone so friendly. Only 2 complaints, the tv needs to be upgraded(had to wait for it to warm up) and no wifi in room. Come on , this is 2012. But everything else was perfect and we can hardly wait to come back to Kauai, our fav island. If you're looking for peace and serenity because your life is hectic, this is the place to come. This was our second year staying in the Kreller's unit 319, with a lovely view of the ocean from the balcony. The addition of wireless internet and a new California King bed made the unit even more desirable this year. We like the fact that it is easy to get anywhere on Kauai from the Kapaa location. This year, when we found a couple of small things that required the owner's attention, they were taken care of very quickly by a friendly and helpful local resident. I had recently made some changes in my life and I needed a place to escape the big city and reflect on my past, present and future. I was in need of a recharge!
Having been to numerous all-Inclusive Resorts in many tropical locations throughout the world, I knew these were going to be filled with noisy drunk people, screaming children and overly loud music. So I opted for a private, quiet rental in Hawaii. I booked my week with Beverly and Bob at #131 "islander on the beach", Kauai, Hawaii.
You can quote me on this...It was a little slice of heaven!!! It easily surpassed all my expectations!
The room was modern and elegantly designed & decorated and a cool retreat from the warm & sunny beach. The beach was literally at my doorstep and the surf lulled me to sleep each night. The bathroom was gorgeous and clean, with a ton of counter space and giant mirrors, which is important to a gal like me, I am a Make Up artist by profession! ;)
I enjoyed the fact that when I wanted to read, write, sleep, do yoga or just simply be alone in this tropical paradise, I could easily do so with no interruptions. And on the flip-side, when I wanted to have a chat with some friendly people, I could do that at in the common areas.
I would highly recommend renting this condo (#131), but get in line...I'm already booking a week with my Boyfriend in November!! Beverly and Bob are an absolute dream to interact with and I know you'll enjoy them as much as I have.
