Even though this lovely little cottage is only ten minutes from Kapa'a, its setting in a rural neighbourhood surrounded by tropical gardens ensures quiet and privacy. The friendly and approachable owner lives nearby and was always available to answer questions and provide advice. We will certainly stay here again if we return to Kaua'i.

Rainforest Dew is a clean, well maintained cottage on a secluded property - yet quite convenient to Kapaa and Wailua. It is restful and quiet, and Sam is a great host. We loved our stay and will return to this cottage when we next stay in the Wailua area.

Great location, far enough to be peaceful and close enough to Kapaa to zip down any time. Central location makes it easy to get to all sides of the island. Our hosts were very accommodating, leaving us fruit and not intruding at all. But anything you need was taken care of at once. Great tour of the nursery too!
Thanks! -

60878Peaceful, charming retreat
Left on 03/07/2012 for a stay in February 2012
Rainforest Dew is up in the hills above Kapaa. If you like to vacation away from the crowds, it'll make you happy. The owners (with the help of the Garden Isle) have tucked the cottage into such exuberant landscaping that you feel all on your own ... though the main house and garage and a country road are all just a few palms away.
We found Rainforest Dew a great base for exploring the east and north sides of Kauai. It was easy to get to Kapaa for the offerings of civilization, but oh-so-pleasant to retreat to our little home in the country afterwards. We loved the geckos, the toads, even the roosters (for their nudges to get up and enjoy daylight in Hawaii), but the mosquitoes not so much. Thankfully, the biting bugs were only an after-dusk presence.
Owner Sam was a wealth of information on great places to eat and visit. He loaned us beach chairs and brought a basket of citrus and avocado grown on the property.
The only downside to Rainforest Dew was the miniscule kitchen: a short counter with a microwave, coffeemaker, and tiny sink. To use the toaster and hot plate required some careful space arrangements. The Foreman grill was our best friend for French toast and hot sandwiches in the small working space. Eating some meals at home sure saved on the overall vacation costs! (Thank you, Costco.) For the price of the lodging, though, a small kitchen can certainly be dealt with. Rainforest Dew was reasonably priced and such a peaceful place. -

This beautiful cottage was exactly what we needed on our honeymoon. The location was extremely beautiful and quiet. It was great having a kitchen area where we could make our own coffee in the morning and cook our own meals when we wanted to. The best part about this cottage is Sam, the owner of the property. His Kauai tips were excellent and helped us see the best parts of the island. No complaints here!

My husband and I were looking for a quite relaxing place, away from crowds. This was perfect. The cottage is completely surrounded by palms and other tropical plants, so you have all the privacy you want. The owners were very helpful and hospitable-we couldn't have asked for better service. We were also there over Christmas and it was perfect for feeling at home. I would recommend this to anyone and would stay again if we got the chance.

Left on 12/14/2011 for a stay in October 2011
Went back to Kauai for a second honeymoon for our 17th anniversary. The B&B; where we honeymooned was out of business, but renting the Rainforest Dew cottage from Sam was great. He is a very gracious man and really went out of his way to point out places to go to eat and things to do. The grounds and cottage are beautiful and make a great relaxing place to stay.
Our only complaint has nothing to do with Sam - it's just that there are chickens everywhere on Kauai (though we only saw 2 on Sam's property).
When we go back, we'll definitely think of going back to Sam's. -

My husband and I had specific criteria in mind when researching accommodation.
Affordable (we're retired).
Peaceful & secluded but safe.
Cooking and laundry facilities.
Centrally located for exploring Kaua'i
Rainforest Dew met all our criteria, and some. The cottage is airy and spacious, uncluttered, with tropical decor. The lanai is large with comfy chairs; perfect for kicking back and reviewing your day while sipping your favourite bevy. The cottage is situated in a palm grove, a stone's throw from the owner's residence, but totally private. The grounds are lush and beautifully tended. It is a 10 minute drive to Kapa'a along scenic country roads, and there is a convenience/grocery store 5 minutes away.
Sam, our host, couldn't have been more gracious or helpful. He directed us to good snorkeling spots, restaurants and attractions, including a wonderful lu'au place right in Kapa'a called Smith's Tropical Paradise Lu'au. We were grateful for his direction because navigating all the lu'au information is confusing. This one turned out to be a real gem.
If you are active during the day and not so much at night, this little oasis is ideal. All in all, we couldn't have found a more suitable base for exploring the island, and we consider this cottage quite a find. What made it even more special was Sam, whose hospitality was unsurpassed. Thanks Sam! -

Wow! My husband and I were on our honeymoon in Hawaii and traveled to Kauai as part of our trip. Well, Sam and his wife made this part of our trip exceptional! The cottage is lovely; just the right size for us. And it felt so secluded, comfy and beautifully arranged! It was just what we needed to relax and enjoy ourselves! The property is meticulously cared for and you feel like you are away in a garden oasis! You won't be disappointed if you chose to stay here! Ps-you are a little bit away from the nearest stores/grocery stores/shops, etc, so you will Definately need to rent a car.

Sam was a wonderful host. His recommendations of places to see were far better than our "best of Kauia" tour guides. You pass Opeaka falls when you drive to the cottage and are very close to Wailua river and Smith's Famous Family Luau. You are also 15 minutes away from the airport and 10 minutes away from Kappaa, which has numerous restaurants; the location is great. The cottage itself is very clean, comfortable, and private. We would definitely stay here again.

Rainforest Dew was a great vacation rental. My girlfriend and I stayed for the first 3 nights of our time on Kauai. Sam was an amazing host; offering us great tips on places to visit, giving us a tour of his plant nursery, and providing us with fresh fruit from his trees. For not much more money than an average hotel room, we were provided with a clean, comfortable cottage with great amenities. We will definitely stay here again the next time we visit Kauai!

Everything was perfect. It was a very clean and updated cottage. They had snacks there for our arrival. The hosts were more than accommondating, but never intrusive. Left on 01/12/2011 for a stay in December 2010
This is a clean, peaceful cottage up in the hills above Kapaa. It is located on a five acre parcel along with the owner's home and a plant nursery. Sam, the host, brought me Meyer lemons, bananas and tangerines from the yard. This cottage is exactly as advertised in every way. The on-line pictures depict it perfectly. I was in the cottage 12/15-29/10 and am recommending it to anyone I meet who is looking for a great place to stay while on Kauai.

Good-fair. The refrigerator was very noisy and ran all the time. I unplugged it at night so I could have a quiet nights sleep. Some of the utensils were hard to use such as the wine opener. It would have been great to have the sports channels available to watch football on the rainy nights. Other than that, I had a visually beautiful place to spend a peaceful respite while on the magical island of Kauai.

We were sorry to learn by this posting that there was a problem with the refrigerator during your stay. The property has a resident owner, available 24 hours should there be any questions about the unit, appliances or even our beautiful garden Island.
Had the owner been informed of the issue, it most certainly would have been addressed during your stay. A service technician has since checked the refrigerator, and determined it to be in fine working order; their professional assessment was when refrigerators are not full and at too high a setting for the volume, they do tend to run for longer periods of time. -

The cottage was even better than we excpected, very lovely. The host (Sam) was very friendly and helping, the cottage was absolutely clean and contained everything that was promised in advance. But the absolutely best of all was the big surrounding garden. It was just breathtaking with all the colours and different plants. A very charming place.

The most wonderful aspect of staying here was the sound of the birds when you woke up instead of the roosters and chicken that start crowing at 4 am in the morning in other parts of the island.
Kitchen was useless, too small sink and workspace and difficult to fry an egg in the morning. You pretty much have to eat out every meal.
Would have liked to see the entrance more formal, walk way on the grass to the porch.
