What Past Guests Are Saying
Excellent Place to Stay
We rented Hale Hololani for 5 nights. Sue and her husband Greg were wonderful on the phone and email and very patient with my questions. I had two doubts - was the house good and was the choice of kapaa as a lodging location good. Both were answered very quickly. Kapaa is one of the best choices if you plan to explore much of the island. And Hale Hololani is a truly wonderful house.
The house was about 50 feet from the ocean with a very small road in front with minimal traffic. The front patio was done up beautifully with deck chairs and i spent several nights looking up at the stars and identifying constellations. The sound of the ocean lulled us to sleep every night.
The house itself - very clean and neat. Everything was working very well. Plenty of linens and towels and a full kitchen made the experience very relaxing. The washer and dryer in the garage meant that we could carry fewer clothes. The location was within walking distance of two strip malls with starbucks, safeway and an icecream store as well as a pizza hut/taco bell (for those desperate times). And it was about 10 minutes from Lihue airport.
We had a truly memorable vacation and my two kids (14 and 17) enjoyed the house and the chinese checkers board game so thoughtfully stashed away.
Would recommend this without any hesitation and urge people to contact Greg and Sue for their rental needs (their office during the weekdays is about a 5 minute walk from the house).

Beautiful Oceanside location
Beautiful location with a 5 mile waterfront bike/walking path right out the front door. It was far nicer to have a whole house to come home to rather than a hotel room or condo complex. Nice airy home that could be opened up wide to let in the sound of the waves and the ocean breezes. Beautiful sunrises every morning. The house was very comfortable for our two adult couples to share.
The house could use a little updating. Being so close to the ocean some of the metal fixtures have corroded over time and should be replaced. Some of the door handles and window hinges are rusty and the locks were at times challenging to operate. The carpet in the main living area is a bit worn, and the ocassional lightbulb is burnt out. However, it was evident that a lot of care goes into keeping the house and linen clean. I would definitely recommend Hale Hololani to a friend. It's not super fancy but it is a nice home in a great location.
My husband and two teenage sons stayed here in august and we couldn't have been more comfortable. A lovely home with a spectacular view. It's in Kaapali which is between the sites to the south and north if you're interested in seeing both, as we were. We did a lot of driving but were always happy to come back to this house at the end of a full day. Mahalo!

This property is phenomenal. It is a prime location, coupled with a well equipped and immaculately maintained property, which along with central air made for a perfect getaway. We would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a premium Island experience.
enjoyed our stay
we were thrilled to stay here as we had checked it out on a previous trip. The location is perfect in our opinion, only a short walk to town and the view is awesome. Sue at Garden Island properties was excellent when there was any concerns and we have booked it for next year. However the house is becoming a bit 'worn' as it has been a popular rental for a number of years. It could really use some updating (paint, appliances, towels) and we are hoping that happens before our next stay.

Mahalo for your review! We are glad you enjoyed your month long stay at Hale Hololani and look foward to having you back. Being on the ocean does take it's toll on our properties but we will definitely make sure it's prepped and "shining" for your stay! Mahalo nui loa! :)
Heaven on Earth
This is a beautiful home across from the ocean, the sunrise...walking distance from town, on the bike trail and everything you need to relax into paradise.
It is really heavenly!

We were glad to have you and the name of this home suits it! "Heavenly Home".....you can even see the moonrise from this home!
The photos of the house barely do justice to this beautiful home. And that's just what it is, someone's second home, and not just a generic vacation rental. The moment you step in to the house you feel relaxed knowing that everything you need is provided, bottle openers included!
The location is just amazing; right on the ocean. Open the lanai doors, take in the incredible view, feel the breeze, and enjoy the sounds of the surf. Which we did pretty much all the time. As soon as we woke every morning the doors we opened. And they stayed open every minute we were in the house! You are also within walking distance of a Safeway, restaurants, and if you feel like a longer walk you can get to Kapaa town.
True, as one reviewer mentioned, there are often cars parked in front, but they are mostly fisherman, and they are usually only there when the tide is in. It is well worth chatting to them as they are locals, and the few I spoke with provided lots of good tips.
I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay in Hale Hololani, it truely is "Heavenly", and would highly recommend it if you are visiting the Kapaa area.
Sue at Garden Island Properties is a pleasure to work with. She was very responsive and accomodating, and booking was straight forward.
The house is much better in person, I was surprised how big and bright it was, very airy, lots of light and tons of patio doors which open to the sound of the ocean right outside. I can't say enough good things about Garden Island Properties, Greg was very helpful. This place was exactly what I was looking for. I went along to a quiet getaway and I wasn't disappointed on that front. It's not in a tourist area (locales live nearby). The only disappointing part was the location. It's right on the beach which is not swimmable or even a good beach for lying on (mostly rock), and there's a small road between the house and the ocean which is quite popular with locales who like to come and park outside and look out at the ocean. So it lacks a little privacy at the front where the big lanai is situated. Also, Kapaa can be windy which I didn't mind because it was hot. But it stirs up the ocean a bit. There is a beach a little further down the road that you can lounge on but still no swimming. All in all I really enjoyed my stay, in fact I extended an extra 3 days because it was so very relaxing. Peace and quiet is what you'll find here.
Perfect location on the beach
Hale Hololani was perfect. Centrally located, close to shops and restaurants, and a beautiful view of the ocean from two lanais. It is private and secluded. We watched the sunrise over the ocean from the front lanai. The side lanai is great for breakfast or simply reading and enjoying the ocean breeze. The house is air conditioned, which was great since it was quite warm and humid while we were there. Perfectly furnished with everything you need or want, and amazingly clean. Highly recommended. Garden Island Properties was great to work with.
Lovely Home on the Ocean

Great house on the beach in Kapaa
Loved the fact that this house was on one end of a 5 mile bike path along the ocean, very beautiful riding everyday. Plus the house was very comfortable and nice.
Exactly what we were looking for!
The place was beautiful and very serene. It was a perfect location to stay on the island. The neighborhood was quite except for the people that park in front of the home to admire the view. The whale watching was incredible from the front patio! The whales gave us a show every morning.
There were a few maintenance issues with the home but nothing that would prevent us from staying again.

Central Location for Restaurants & Shops
Hale Holo Lani is beautiful with a lanai that provides sunrises and sunbathing, but few opportunities for swimming or privacy. It was restful and accessible to fine dining and easy shopping. We chose to stay only one week because of the price. It would be great stay for honeymooners. We enjoyed our stay.

Relaxing and Playing
The house was perfect. The view was beautiful. The ocean breezes were wonderful. The location of the house was great. We drove North and played at the beaches during the day. Came home and went out to dinner in Kapaa at one of the many wonderful restaurants. Relaxed at the house for the rest of the night. I can't wait to come back.

THE ISLAND & HOUSE OF PARIDISE
Our vacation was very enjoyable. The house was very nice & clean. We did complain about the mold
that was in the bank of drawers that held the silverware & the housekeeper came immedialtely &
cleaned it right away. I think the mold is in the wood as It did not take care of the problem so every time we opened the drawer we had to hold our breath. We would come back & recommend,In fact we already have, to our family Physician.
It was a 10.
Thank you very much for your kind hospiltaly.
A welcoming "Home" in a wonderful community
We would have to say this property was a welcoming home in a great location.
Having stayed in other VRBO properties with the standard minimum ammenities, it was refreshing to stay in a place that truly seemed to be someone's home away from home. Hand made wood carvings by the owner, beatiful "quality" furniture and care put into the decorating of the home made it much more than a thrown together investment property.
The oceanfront lanai was spectacular and many hours were spent sunning, reading, watching the whales and chatting with the tourists walking by.
On the negative side would be the minimaly ergonomic kitchen, the awkward driveway and a few minor maintenance issues. None of which were significant when it came to enjoying our stay.
Kapaa is a great community with wonderful people. Our server at the Ono restaurant even rememberred us from our previous trip to Kapaa and welcomed us back.
Overall, an excellent vacation and our thanks to the owners and property managers for a good time had by all.
Site was great and if only there was not a persistent fog in the morning I am
sure there would have been great sunrises. The house was charming but in
need of a little tender loving care. Further, some one before us had discarded
stale cigars in the kitchen garbage bin and despite the agent inviting me to
buy febreeze and get reinbursed, the smell persisted the entire week and was
actually quite off putting. The garbage disposal was broken and I suspect food
remains were lodged somewhere in it as we kept getting ants up through the
sink. Nevertheless the walk along the road and along the ocean front walkway
We loved it!
A perfect house - in a perfect location - I can't wait to come stay there again!
Good central location. East access to other areas of the island. Could walk to resturants. House was wonderful. Beautiful sunrises. Only drawback was parking was a little tough for two vehicles.

Completely Met Expectations.
As presented by Garden Island Properties in its website, Hale Hololani met our expectations completely. My husband and I expected peace and quiet, a view and the ocean, a clean house with certan amenties, and serene solitude if we wished not to leave for the day. We could not have wanted anything more, and even got more as we enjoyed the island of Kauai and the town of Kapaa as well.
We did a lot of research to find a decent place to stay in Kapaa. Traveling to Hawaii from Ohio is no small thing for us, so my wife and another couple decided to spurge a little on accomodations. You can pay less and stay at a condo (ugh), a little more and stay at a small "private cabin", or even a little more and stay here.
It ws well worth it the extra cost. There's something about returning after a day of island-exploring to deluxe accomidations: Your own house w/ a large kitchen, double French door that open out to a lani that overlooks the ocean.
It was clean, roomy (your own back yard), and nicely located. They even worked w/ us on the price a little.
I really can't think of any cons, other than the $ and the decor (circa 1980). But, hey, you're in Hawaii! Chill out! Aloha!

Secluded and romantic paradise home
Our stay at the Hale Hololani was spectacular - to put it mildly. This was the perfect location to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We renewed our wedding vows at sunset on the front lanai overlooking the ocean, in a private, secluded and beautiful home. We enjoyed our morning walks, afternoon drives around the island, and good local food. The house is spectacular. While it was just the two of us, this home is confortable for a family with children, as the 2nd room has 2 beds and separate bathroom. The furnishings are tastefully done - island style - the kitchen is fully equipped and we bought the same grill as the owners have in the yard when we got home. We enjoyed having our breakfast on the side lanai and were adopted by a few of the roosters. The house was very clean and well stocked with kitchenware, linen, furniture and laundry room. It's located across a quite road from the ocean, and a minute or two walk from Baby Beach - not an inconvenience. This was truly the find of a lifetime and highly recommended. The house is air conditioned, which is a plus since we dont like humidity (we are from Florida!). We are world travelers and rent homes in all parts of the worlds. This one ranks in the top five and we hope to be back. Sit back, relax, enjoy the beautiful sunrises on the front deck and sleep with the sound of the waves in the background.
