I stayed 8 nights in bunkhouse 2 and absolutely loved it. Perfect lodging for 1 or 2 people; it is a compact version of an upscale accommodation and has every thing in it that anyone needs. It is in a lovely location in a residential area, just at the base of The Sleeping Giant (one of the best hikes on the island, after Kalalau on the Napali Coast). The grounds are beautifully maintained. The hosts, Rosemary and Norbert, are very friendly. Two years ago, I had rented the larger Victorian Cottage with my sister, and it too was a great stay, but in the future, I plan to return to the bunkhouses with my daughters, when we are not traveling with a larger group. The outdoor shower is fantastic! It seemed strange to have to shower indoors after returning home. Why spend more on lodging when you can save the money for a quicker return to Kauai!

This very well maintained property exceeded our expectations. Fruit trees for the picking and an awesome outdoor shower. The bed is a loft which requires climbing a ladder. Kitchenette with microwave, refrigerator, dishes and coffee. Just a few blocks from The Sleeping Giant trailhead. The only downside is sharing a bathroom with two other units.

If I come back to Kauai, which I better! I would seriously consider staying here. I came in Dec. when the days were short, so my good experience here could only be enhanced by being able to spend some outside time there in the evenings and early morning. The proprietor was really lovely and very nice. I stayed in one of the bunkhouses and since it was just myself - it was perfect. You need a car to stay here, but in my opinion you need a car to really take advantage of Kauai anyway. It is not near a beach, but it is a great central location to take advantage of the whole island.

It was the perfect spot for me to land--loved everything about the room and grounds! I liked the loft bed--the mattress and pillows were extremely comfortable and I slept really well. I loved the thoughtful touches, such as the toaster and coffee. I adore outside showers, so that was perfect as well. It wasn't a problem to go next door for the toilet, and there was even some lotion for my hands. I could easily live in that space for a month or more.

Good location, if you have a car, even though it is a little drive to the main road.
Best equipped hostel we stayed so far, and you can even pick your starfuit from the tree in front, one day there were also some delicious little bananas in our room.
In Bunk room 3 you ged a double bed rather than a bunk bed, if you don't mind to climb a ladder.
Nice openair shower.
Very clean. -

I am a Physician assistant graduate student that was looking for a place to stay for a month on my rotation. I remember accidentally driving by the Bunk House and thinking, "Is that it?! This place looks amazing!" Ever since arriving, I had nothing but fabulous things to say. First off, Rosemary and Norbert are two of the most generous and caring landlords of the property- they take pride in their bunk houses and all of the landscaping. I felt like I was staying with relatives the whole month. Second, there's an outdoor shower (with a lock! haha). Not once did I feel uncomfortable in it...and let me just add...have you ever showered in rainbows? Have you ever showered under the moon and a sky full of stars?! Hands down, extremely safe and cozy bunk house with great folks running the property. Sleeping Giant (hiking trail) is right behind the property, fresh fruit trees litter the property that you are free to enjoy, and absolutely gorgeous scenery will surround you. There is also backyard patios, a firepit, grill, and outdoor adventure equipment (snorkeling gear, beach chairs etc.), so all you have to worry about is bringing your suit and workout clothes! You will be in excellent hands and your money well spent if you stay here :) I've been back a second time and would highly recommend this to any of my family looking for a place to stay on the island.

We absolutely loved the bunkhouse at Rosewood! What a beautiful property with lovely people! Why stay at an overpriced tacky resort when you could stay at this stunning homestead! The outdoor shower was so peaceful at night, the cabin was simple but everything we needed! After long days of exploring the island, this was the perfect retreat to wind down!!

The best thing that could happen to a budget traveller! The bunkhouse ist very clean, perfectly equipped and the fresh bananas from the garden are unbelievable. The atmosphere is very charming and peaceful. Make sure to take a shower in the garden at full moon! The bunkhouse rooms can get a little hot but there are vans and it gets cooler at night. Rosemary and her husband are very helpful and they have a solution for every kind of problem that occurs during your stay! I enjoyed my trip very much. Mahalo!

What a wonderful experience!
This is a lovely, hidden little place to stay. As I am a budget traveler, this was perfect for my budget, but offered so much more than I had expected.
The owners are friendly, and very helpful. The premises are clean and very serene. The Bunkhouse could sleep two people and was, for a budget traveler nothing short of luxurious, there is a fridge, coffee maker and some books to read if you are not in the mood for a stroll through these magnificent garden.
Everyone I know, will know about this place, it wads fantastic. -

I often stay in hostels, and when planning a trip to meet a friend this looked like a good compromise between price and standard (for 2 sharing it works out a fairly similar price to 2 hostel beds).
The standard was far better than I expected for the price! The rooms are absolutely lovely, and we were made to feel very welcome. The beds are incredibly comfortable. I loved the outdoor shower (if you have any reservations about sharing a shower unit with 2 other rooms, just shower in your bathers, there is a lock on the door of the shower though).
It is definitely an advantage to have use of a hire car, but I did notice The Kauai Bus does get near (would still be a bit of a walk, though). -

I very much enjoyed the Bunk House Hostel. The room was very comfortable with a microwave and sink ensuite. The free Wi fi was nice as well. The actual bathroom is around the corner, which is convenient enough. I enjoyed the outdoor shower, particularly in the middle of the night. The hostel is a quick drive from Kapaa, and it is centrally located on Kauai. All major sites are easily accessible by car. No breakfast, but you can pick as much fruit from the fruit trees on the property.

I stayed at the Bunkhouse for 12 days in total and was enchanted from the first moment. Rosemary & Norbert are beautiful hosts and I felt very much at home. The gardens are stunning and bunkhouse 1 was perfect for me; self contained, clean, cosy and peaceful. I loved the outdoor shower seeing the stars at night and the mountain. I highly recommend this place and its location tucked up behind sleeping giant mountain and close to the amazing Hindu monastery which I visted many mornings for Puja ceremony.I look forward to returning when I am next in need of accommadation in Kauai...would rate over any hotel!

I stayed here at the end of November '11 for 3 nights at the end of a 2 week hiking and camping trip. It was certainly a good choice. The room (bunk #3) was small, but it was all that I needed. Due to the windows and beautiful scenery outside it did not feel cramped. There is a shared bathroom next to the room and the shower is a large open-air gazebo located a short walk away, near the garden. This location is "out of the way," it takes 5-10 min drive to get to shopping, but that was more than fine with me. I noticed after I left that there is apparently good hiking trails right near the home- within walking distance- that go up the back of Sleeping Giant. Coffee, bananas, and starfruit are included! I would certainly stay here again

The bunkhouse 3 had good kitchen gatgets for breakfast, amongst which a koffiemachine (yeh!).
The bed was good. Only the stairs to the bed were a little uncomfortable.
The garden looked wonderfull and the location is nice quite and reasonably close to a central place (Kapaa) on the Island of Kauai. -

This is a great place. My husband and I were looking for something simple and cheap, just a step up from tent camping. We found this and it exceeded our expectations! Beautiful grounds, lovely hosts, nice places. We stayed in one of the bunkhouses, with a shared bathroom and outdoor shower. It was better than I thought it would be. Clean and very tidy.
There was also lots of ripe fresh fruit growing on the property and our hosts were generous to let us have as much as we wanted. They also offered snorkel gear, boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrellas, and more to use as often as we wanted for no charge. Talk about 5 star!
We spent our 2nd week in a fancier resort where they nickel and dimed us for everything including internet. Rosewood BB had free wi-fi too!
Would definitely go again! -

I stayed at the Rosewood Inn in one of the Bunkhouse backpacker hostel-type rooms. I was very pleased- it was exactly what I was looking for and what was advertised, and the price was incredible. I cannot think of anything that could have been improved, except for the fact that the upstairs bed area did get warm from about mid-morning until about early evening. The hosts provided a fan, and that worked well, but in the middle of July I would caution that it was too warm to take a nap during the middle of the day. That small aspect aside, I was thrilled and would stay there again!

I stayed 5 days at Rosewood, and just loved it! The place is really clean, new, quiet and private!! When I arrived, the owner, Rosemary, showed me all I would need, the outside private shower(I had fullmoon..!!), the backyard with a bbq you can use, and a lovely garden to hang out after a full day at the beach! They would leave some fresh exotic food sometimes on my table. The place is surround by mountains, its right in a valley, and no mosquitos! The also have boogie board you can freely take with you for the day. Also, I found that the best place to saty if you have a car and move all your stay, this area is right in the center, so either if you choose to go south or north, when you come back, its right in the middle. About 15 minutes by car from the airport. The bad are comfy, and you have a microwave and fridge. I would ran there again! Thanks to Rosemary and Norbert who really cares about make you feel like home! :D

Left on 07/19/2011 for a stay in May 2011
This was my second year staying at Rosewood. I have stayed in the Bunkhouse and Colleen's Dream while traveling solo and loved both. Last year I stayed in a backpacker hostel when I arrived in Kapaa and had a really poor experience. I have stayed in hostels on a number of continents and this was the worst. Upon my boyfriend's encouragement I went to Rosewood as he'd had extremely positive things to say about the lodging and level of service. He couldn't have been more right. The property is gorgeously landscaped, lodging tranquil, color schemes lovely and Rosemary and Norbert are sweethearts. Last year I wanted to extend my stay but the bunkhouse was booked for the upcoming nights so they generously let me switch to Colleen's Dream as there was a vacancy.
I love waking up to the birds there, watching turtles walk across the lawn in the morning, observing dragonflies flit about and chameleons climb the walls and plants. This year I had a Hawaiian friend to stay with but landed up returning for about 5 nights simply because when I am there I feel completely relaxed, unrushed and am able to contemplate things because my mind gets so clear due to the serene atmosphere. I have recommended it to friends who landed up staying there, and will continue to visit during my annual trips to Kauai. -

Good simple clean and neat accommodation for the solo traveler. The bunkhouse #1 is a narrow room with all one needs including high speed wireless. The outside shower and outside toilet are adequate. However the price is not backpacker pocket even though the name and the outside facilities and size of accommodation leads one to believe it is going to be. Thus for what one gets I fell the price is too high. On site laundry facilities, even if coin operated, would be an improvement. The hosts keep themselves discreetly in the background. Their welcoming bananas were a treat.

My stay in the bunkhouse at Rosewood B&B; was everything and more than I'd hoped for in my stay on Kauai. My room was very comfortable and I felt completely safe. The beautiful Rosewood gardens also enhanced my stay. Rose and Norbert were wonderful hosts. I especially loved the fresh apple-bananas from their garden that I received every couple of days. Rosewood's personal concierge, Sherri, was also a great help in arranging tours. I've told several friends about Rosewood and I plan to return in a few years.

Quaint and peaceful are the first words I would use to describe the stay at Rosewood. The bunkhouse provided all that two friends could need! I was apprehensive about the outdoor shower, but after showering under Hawaiian trees while watching the moon shine brightly over the mountains I realized it was an experience in itself. The bananas Rosemary offered were appreciated as well as the hospitality of using towels, beach equipment, etc. I especially appreciated feeling safe and not having to lock the doors while being away during the day. Thank you again and I will be sure to recommend Rosewood to friends that will be traveling to Kaua'i in the future!

AlaskaRelaxing Way to End Our Vacation in Kauai
Left on 05/07/2011 for a stay in April 2011
We stopped by the Rosewood immediately after arriving on Kauai to pay, found what would be our room in a week and then went off exploring the rest of the island. After many nights of camping the Rosewood was a relaxing, comfortable, safe and affordable way to close out our visit for the last three nights. Our hosts were friendly, kind and knowledgeable. The room had a very comfortable bed, coffee maker (and ample coffee), fridge, microwave, dishes and cutlery. Outside there was a small table & chairs, perfect for drinking coffee in the morning. We also used the BBQ to grill up fresh fish. The most memorable thing was the private outside shower - it was nice to finally get really clean after all the camping. The location up in the hills of Kapaa is convenient if you know where you want to go and/or are ok with a 30 minutes to hour drive to the more popular touristy (re: good for swimming) beaches. Overall, this was a great place to stay for the last nights of our vacation. We really appreciated the value for our money, the security of our personal items and the quiet, calm environment.

I particularly enjoyed my loft bed which was also set up beautifully for a reading cubby. The small kitchenette area was well set up and perfect for small meals and snacks. Showering in the open air under the trees and flowers was delightful. Picking fresh grapefruit, lemons, tangelos, and starfruit fresh from the trees was an added bonus. It took only 10 minutes to drive to the beaches and coast. They even had beach mats and charis I could borrow. I could not ask for more.

I stayed in the rosewood bunkhouse with my sister. We are backpackers and it looked like the best value when we discovered it online.
We were blown away by the quality of the accommodations. It was clean, comfortable, private, and welcoming. The owners were warm, welcoming, and made the stay feel safe and comfortable.
There are more amenities than we expected from a hostel - toaster, microwave, coffee maker, fridge, bath towels, beach towels, snorkeling gear, beach chairs and we were even welcomed with fresh bananas upon our arrival!
Then best part about our stay was the feeling of comfort and safety when staying here. At the end of a long day out and about it was like arriving home. -

What can I say? This is a fantastic place for a fantastic and restful vacation. I stayed here in 2003 and meant to return sooner. The property is lovely, the owners even more so -- and so accommodating! -- and I highly recommend the Rosewood B&B.; For hikers or honeymooners - this is the perfect place.
