Additional Location Information
In the nearby surroundings lies the 'real' life of Nepal at your feet. Against a fairytale-like scenery, farmers work on the land, children go to school and the cattle passes you by. Here, the time appears to have stood still...
The village Sankhu once was an important trade post between Kathmanu and Lhasa. There are many remnants of the prosperous period between the 1300s-1500s. Also, there is a lot to be seen of the traditional Newari lifestyle, the largest population in this area. The traditions of the Newari go back centuries and live on in Sankhu. The village has many little streets and squares, where many shops and artefacts can be found. Together with a number of impressive temple complexes this makes Sankhu very much worthwhile to visit. You will get a taste of the real Nepal. Remember to check for any festivals during your stay which make for a most special experience.
Vajarayogini tempel is an easy 2 km hike lasting a 45 minutes from the bus parking lot and most enjoyable.
From your cottage, you will walk into the rice fields and further ahead a local market, temple or Buddhist monastery. There are many more traditional activities in Sankhu. Other lively cities such as Bhaktapur, Changu, Nharagot and Sundarijal are also easily accessible.
Take advantage of the many biking- and bicycle routes that crosses the surrounding, passing by beautiful temples that are not for no reason on the world inheritance list of Unesco

What Past Guests Are Saying
I love this place a lot, just like home, have easy access to shops, can cook own meals, modern sanitary facilities and can have a village tour to temple up on a hill, beautiful temple and view from up there :)
The best place to relax
For starters ,Suraj, the manager, is 5 stars. He will do everything o make you comfortable and the cottage tasted beautifully, specially after spending almost 5 months not being able to cook... that kitchen was wonderful as well as being able to eat organic every meal. Great facilities and hot water (great value there)
Beautiful place to stay
Me and my daughter stayed 1 night in December 2011 and we enjoyed it very much. It is a very nice, quite place to stay, very close to the old town centre of Sankhu. The cottage has all the comfort you can wish yourself. We enjoyed the campfire at nigth very much. I can highly recommend a stay, even for a longer period, because the surroundings of Sankhu are worth a visit.
Cozy and very comfortable resort in a perfect environment
For mountainbikers and hikers this environment offers anything you'd ever wish for. And then this cozy resort offers all luxury you'd ever wanted. Perfect view from there on the farmland and the mountains in the background!
A peacefull place
This lovely house with it's nice garden and a beautiful view to the Kathmandu valley is the place to be for walkings or resting. Sunrise is seen from the bed. What more do you need. A good shower? It's there. A guide? Is availible. Restaurants? A few nearby. Have fun.
An excellent and peaceful getaway!
Where can I start? The cottage itself was really comfortable, clean, prettily furnished and light. The bed had a mosquito net, and I can't even describe how happy the warm shower made us.
The view was just breathtaking, and the yard has a place for grilling and some chairs. The surroundings are nice and quiet, especially after being in Kathmandu. There is an old couple living in a small house next to the cottage, but they were polite and nice and didn't bother us.
The best thing was getting to walk around the village and go sight-seeing with Surraj, because he knows a lot about the places, he's a fun guy and really takes care of his guests. We went to a local restaurant for dinner and I swear their veggie thukpa was the best I've ever had (and really cheap too)!
The only downside was the big scary spiders in the cottage, but if you're going to Nepal that's not really something you should even care about.
I'm definitely going back some day, I wish Mike & Surraj all the best!
