About Kaw Lake
Kaw Lake, located in north-central Oklahoma is a 38-mile long lake with more than 168 miles of shoreline encompassing over 17,500 acres. More than 20,000 additional acres of Corps owned land surrounds the lake.
Kaw Lake is about equi-distant from Wichita, Oklahoma City and Tulsa with about a 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive from each.
Enjoy boating, skiing, hunting and fishing, picnicking, trails for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking opportunities. A Corps of Engineers lake, Kaw Lake’s beauty is like a beacon urging you to romp and play in nature’s playground.

Kaw Lake and the Arkansas River have long been known for great hauls of catfish. Kaw Lake also has bass, crappie, walleye, stripers and even a spoonbill or two. There are seven public use areas and 13 boat ramps located around the lake for visitors to enjoy.
Where are some places to camp where we can fish from the bank?
Probably the best bank fishing is found in Osage Cove. There is also a designated fishing dock at Osage Cove in the boat ramp area of the park and below the dam in the Arkansas River.
Where can we ride horses?
At Sarge Creek and ride the trails from there.
Where can we hunt?

Game Species of Interest:
Pheasant: Very few present, most often taken as a bonus for quail hunters.
Quail: Bobwhite quail occur in fair numbers during most years.
Deer: White-tailed deer are abundant and highly sought after.
Turkey: Rio Grande turkeys are present in good numbers and highly sought after.
Rabbit: Cottontails are usually present in good numbers.
Furbearers: Coyote, bobcat, and raccoon are plentiful.
Dove: Good dove hunting is usually available.
Waterfowl: Ducks and geese are usually available in good numbers.
Squirrel: The fox squirrel is present in good numbers.
Nongame Species of Interest:
Greater Prairie Chicken: Present, but only in low numbers.
Bald Eagle: One of Kaw Lake’s most popular winter attractions is the American Bald Eagle. Traditionally, Kaw Lake has one of the states largest populations of wintering bald eagles. Numerous sites around the lake offer visitors excellent opportunities to view our nation’s symbol. Peak viewing opportunities occur in January.
Osprey: Commonly observed along the shoreline in early fall.
Upland sandpiper: Present in low numbers on the east side of the WMA.
Texas Horned Lizard: Present in low numbers on the east side of the WMA.
What does it cost to put a boat in the water and who do we pay?
If you are camping at one of the Corps campgrounds there is no charge. For day use it is $3 per day.
Where can I rent a boat?
McFadden Cove Marina, just west of the dam at the south end of the lake, rents pontoon boats. For information contact them at (phone: hidden).
How many marinas are there and where are they?

Where can I go hiking?
The Eagle View Hiking Trail is the best place. It is on the southeast end of the lake and starts around Osage Cove winding over to the Burbank Landing area.
Can we shoot fireworks?
The shooting of fireworks on Corps land or within the city limits of most communities in the Kaw Lake area is prohibited. We recommend you attend one of the many organized Fourth of July fireworks displays in area communities.
