Description from the manager
Maluhia Hale is a beautiful 2-story light, bright, open-air home with 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, and a wraparound lanai. Located on a very private, landscaped acre, it offers a quiet refuge from busy neighborhoods, hotels, and condo complexes. In Hawaiian,
Maluhia is "peaceful" and Hale is "house," and that is just what the owners have achieved for their guests. Decorator touches are evident in every room, all with an Asian influence blended with a relaxed island style.
The upstairs has windows everywhere looking out to the wraparound lanai, which has teak dining and lounge chairs. Inside, the living and dining areas offer lots of seati...Read more

Aurora, ON, CanadaWonderful time at Maluhia Hale
Left on 04/09/2012 for a stay in April 2012
Stayed at this property for 3 nights in April 2012 and enjoyed coming home everynight after a busy day of sightseeing. The drive way up into the house was a little rough for our little rental car since the driveway was a path only through the grass. The house was very nicely decorated and we enjoyed the beautiful views from the lanai. A very spacious and comfortable property would love to return here again

Great property in Hilo. It's about a 20 minute drive from downtown Hilo but it was the perfect place for us getting in and around the volcano and surrounding areas. I love that the house is off the beaten path where it is quiet and peaceful. I would definetley stay here again. The only suggestion that I would have is to add doors to the 2 bathrooms downstairs.

Left on 03/04/2012 for a stay in February 2012
We had a great relaxing time at this of the island! The property is great!! The only thing is... If you are arriving at night note that the signs are very small an Thad all the properties are accessed via unsaved road! Bing there for the first time we did not expect it but we felt really save in the neighborhood. The house is spacious and beautiful. We had a great time

Left on 02/04/2012 for a stay in February 2012
If you're looking for rest and relaxation, this home is perfect. Located in a quiet neighborhood yet conveniently close (15-30 minutes) to beaches, snorkeling, hiking, and dining. Make sure you visit Pahoa for a real taste of laid-back Hawai'i!

It was a great place with lots of room to spare. Very clean and well kept. We loved the personal touch with the engraved leaves of our welcome on the table. The sounds of nature were wonderful and the greenery wqas great to view. It was a little hard getting the car up to the house due to the wet weather and previous guests who had trenched up the yard a bit in getting there through the mud. I might suggest putting in a paver block path for each set of tires to ride on. Would make the drive up to the house much easier and should look good too. We loved the walks and the neighbors were freindly. The big walk in shower was really cool.

Calgary, Alberta, CanadaComfort & Privacy
Left on 12/13/2011 for a stay in November 2011
I rained a lot, so we needed to buy our drinking water. It was still potable but we didn't care for the taste. We really loved the covered parking for loading/unloading the car in the rain. I would have been nice if the the gate was automatic. Getting wet to lock/unlock gate was not fun. The house looked clean. But there was some sort of residue from cleaning products that coated the bottoms of my slippers and feet. The main staircase seemed particularly dusty. The lanais could use a good wash down with a hose (since they don't get washed with the rain) It was wonderful to be outside even in the rain. The kitchen was a bit awkward to work in but very well equipt. I would have liked a dishwasher. I would have been nice to have umbrellas and snorkel gear to borrow. We really appreciated the cooler and icepacks ready to go. Overall we got just what we were expecting. We loved the privacy (the view would have been great except for the rain).

Left on 11/24/2011 for a stay in November 2011
We enjoyed the house and property very much. It was very much as represented. Should note no bath tub and two of the showers include tiled stairs (makes slipping even more scarry for elderly or those with limited physical mobility).

Left on 10/30/2011 for a stay in October 2011
So calm, pastoral and beautiful. My sister and I rested well here after a long flight from Atlanta, arriving in the dark. The morning revealed a perfect place. Loved the fauna and flora. Wish we'd had more of the family with us to appreciate and enjoy this top place--children would love this place.

Left on 07/16/2011 for a stay in July 2011
My family and I truly enjoyed our stay at Maluhia Hale. It was in a perfectly peacful spot, but close enough to everything we wanted to see (Hilo, Volcano, botanical gardens, etc.). My teenagers LOVED having their own bathrooms - and my husband and I LOVED the lanai. The house was clean and well appointed. It was really our own little piece of paradise.

Left on 04/17/2011 for a stay in April 2011
We very much enjoyed the privacy of the property and its secluded location. It is a great starting point for exploring the Volcanoes NP. The house has a lot of open space and the upstairs is beautifully furnished. The deck is gorgeous and great for having breakfast and dinner outside. I can highly recommend this property.
We also enjoyed the bouquet of tropical flowers and warm welcome note for our family. -

Seattle, WAWe all felt that...
Left on 02/08/2011 for a stay in January 2011
We all felt that on the surface it looked clean but on closer inspection it was not. It was VERY dusty and combined with the moisture in the area and house it wasn't a good combination. We would recommend only if you had a reason (as we did visiting relatives) to be so outside of Hilo and into the higher elevation with the dampness and mosquitos. Also, make sure people know that there are steep steps leading up to the main floor in your advertising. The house furnishings were very nice, kitchen was well stocked with utensils, etc. We really did enjoy the main area and decks each day and evening. Thank you.

Absolutely outstanding! Exceeded our expectations and even our hopes. We felt we were at home (and a very comfortable one at that), except the home was on Hawai'i. We didn't want to leave and we are eager to return.

I come to the Big Island every year and a half for months on end for work. I always enjoy staying at Maluhia Hale when I do. It is a beautiful home away from home for me. Having a kitchen with everything I need to make my own meals is a plus. I love the lanai that stretches around the 2nd floor. I look forward to staying there again upon my return.
