Beautifully designed by a noted, local architect as a second home for a mainland family, this large, (over 3,500 SF under roof) custom built home will provide you with an ideal vacation sanctuary.

The home sits on a 1.1 acre parcel situated on the mauka side of beach road, and offers spectacular ocean views and the opportunity to watch for the honu (turtles), whales (seasonal,) dolphins, nene (geese) and other species that also travel along the shore line from time to time.

Pricing is given for the three bedroom configuration, with one and two bedroom pricing available at a reduced rate. Depending on the season, the rate for the... one bedroom home is approximately 25% less than the rates quoted for the three bedroom configuration. For the two bedroom configuration, the rate is approximately 10% less than the rates quoted for the three bedroom configuration.

The tri-level home, built in 2007, has the following components:

The living space contains a great room, a master bedroom suite, two other bedrooms, a bathroom with an indoor-outdoor shower, a powder room, a "lava" room, an entry, a laundry room and the screened lanai with jacuzzi.

Great Room

The great room is located on the middle level, half a flight above the lower level and a full flight below the master bedroom. The room has over 780 SF of interior space and includes the kitchen, dining and living room areas.

The room has a feeling of generous space, to congregate or be off in a corner of solitude, enhanced by the huge volume from 10’ walls topped by a mahogany paneled vaulted ceiling that peaks with a cupola in it’s center that rises to 20’ above the stone tile floor.

The kitchen is fully equipped. Along the walls are 14’ of granite counter top with drawers below and cabinets above. There is also a 5’ wide built in granite top desk. The kitchen’s generous island is 9’ long by 42” wide with a 65" burner range built in. It also functions as a breakfast or casual dining area. Large appliances include an oven, microwave and 36” side by side refrigerator/freezer. Small appliances include rice cooker, slow cooker, juicer, etc. The drawers and cabinets are well stocked with dishware, silverware, cooking utensils, glasses, cups - all you’ll need to fix a snack or make Thanksgiving dinner.

This sitting area includes a 44” flat screen TV with DVD and five disc CD player and external speakers.

Adjacent to the great room are a powder room and a large lanai facing the ocean, an ideal spot for reading a book or having a barbecue.

Master Bedroom

Eight steps up from the great room is the master bedroom. It occupies all of the second floor’s interior (620 SF) and includes a generously sized bedroom, a large walk-in closet and a linen closet area and the master bathroom. All areas have 10’ walls and vaulted ceilings.

The master bathroom has his and hers granite vanities, toilet and a walk-in shower room that offers an excellent ocean view and a large bench built into the bay window to facilitate enjoying the view.

Entry

Four steps down from the great room is the main entrance to the house, as you enter the front door you face the lava area, an open area where the natural lava flow beneath the home has been left untouched as a reminder of the uniqueness of the home’s environment.

Six steps below the entry is the lower floor, with the other two bedrooms, the second bathroom, the laundry room and another linen closet.

The bathroom consists of an indoor half bath with a sliding glass door that opens to the indoor/outdoor shower area. For privacy, a 6’ high lava rock wall encloses the space, without cutting off all the ocean breezes.

Screened in lanai

The screened in lanai is adjacent to the TV area in the great room and can be accessed from that area or from outside the house.

Inside is a new, 18 jet Newporter 2 spa tub. At 34" high and 78" in diameter, large enough for up to 5 adults.

Other

The home has Oceanic Cable internet (wifi) and TV service.

There are ceiling fans in each bedroom, the master bathroom and two in the great room.

Bedding

The master bedroom has a California king sized bed. There is a queen sized bed in bedroom 2 and a full sized bed in bedroom 3.

Minimum stays – A minimum stay of at least 3 nights is required. In some time periods, the minimum may be increased to 5 or 7 nights.

Rates and fees quoted do not include the applicable Hawaii State taxes (approximately 13.4% of rents, no taxes on the security deposit.)

Maximum occupancy is 2 people, including all children over 12 months of age, per bedroom.

Additional Location Information

The property is located in Hawaiian Paradise Park, approximately 25-30 minutes southeast of the Hilo Airport. Because it is located at the central area in the Puna district, it was made to be a quite large subdivision, with most lots being divided into one acre parcels.
It is still in a low density, very green area that is rural and undeveloped. Near the coast, some luxury residences and vacation homes have been built in recent years. Year round, good weather attract people to live in the area after retirement, often from the West coast of the United States.
