We really enjoyed our stay at Hale Lehua. The property has luxurious furnishings and fittings. Everything one could need is provided for, even some laundry detergent.
The location was very convenient. -

As vacation rental houses go, Hale Lehua (a renovated plantation style cottage) is among the best. The renovation is fresh, the quality of the work and finishes is first class, the Pottery Barn/Restoration Hardware-look decor is tasteful and has a "pulled together" look, the beds are heavenly and nice touches like thick towels and fine linens abound. Oh, and the back yard is large, lush and private. The actual house and grounds look better than the photographs.
The house is less than a five minute walk to the beach and less than a five minute drive from a gorgeous sandy beach with life-guards that stretches literally for miles. On a busy day, you will share the beach with fewer than 100 other people. Even better, Kekaha is on the sunny, almost-no-rain side of the island. All this is superb, but it exists in context.
Kekaha and the surrounding villages are organized around sugar cane refineries that went bust 15 to 20 years ago. Most of the homes are from the 60s and 70s so there appears to have been a boom followed by a bust. Kekaha and it neighbors are towns on hard times. Hale Lehua is one of a few gentrified properties in town. That said, there is no sense of menace or danger or lack of safety. It's just a bit funky.
The local restaurants aren't great, but then Hawaii isn't noted for food. The two nearby supermarkets don't offer much of a selection and will never win beauty contests. If you want to eat well, your best bet is to cook at home and do your shopping in Lihue before you arrive. There is a Costco there. Fyi- Hale Lehua's kitchen looks far better than it functions and therefore, someone who enjoys a cook's kitchen will find themselves coping with an awkward layout.
Bottom line- the house is nicer than 99% of the vacation rentals out there. It is stylish, comfortable and decidedly upscale. Kekaha offers a combination of sun, sand and water- all without crowds- that is amazing. -

Hale Lehua was great all around. Having been to other vacation rentals in Kauai, this one is well superior: great beds, top notch a/c systems, washer drier, grill, dish washer, name it! Sophisticated interior, well maintained property. Highly recommend it!

Comfortable, relaxing, fun! A super vacation. Don't let the location dissuade you - yes this house is not in the resort area, but its a short drive to many great attractions. A wonderful house! Thanks to everyone at Parrish for their help all the way along.

This is a fantastic place if you truly want to get away from it all. My husband and I spent our honeymoon at this small cottage and what we were looking for was a comfortable, secluded, quiet place close to hiking and away from any crowds. This place delivered! We have rented condos/houses many times and this was the best so far. The pictures are true. The furnishings were beautiful, the kitchen incredibly well equipped and the house immaculately clean. We particularly enjoyed the backyard veranda to kick back, read and relax. The Parrish Collection was easy to deal with and and binders of info for us on arrival. Very hassle-free.
Our only complaint (if you can say that) is that, if you like to cook, the kitchen is a bit difficult to work in. Lack of counter space and no fume hood over the oven. Open the windows! Also the BBQ was not cleaned, had no light over it and was essentially unusable for the time we were there. No big deal, since they had a grill pan available.
The house is situated across the street from a long, white, sandy beach perfect for long walks and watching sunsets. It is also at the base of the national parks, making beautiful day hikes only a short drive away. Now, if you like to go out to eat/drink/party/shop, this is not the place for you. It's almost at the end of the road on the west side of the island and a 1 hour drive from "civilization". On the other hand, is you want solitude and that private "island" feel, look no further.

Tucked away on a quiet town street just a short walk to the gorgeous beach is this beautifully renovated old plantation home. No luxury was spared during the remodelling and this is apparent as soon as you entre the home.
Our neighbours were friendly, always ready to tell us some local tale or two.
If it's rainy elsewhere on the island just stay home because it's always sunny in Kekaha.
Try local Kauaian food at the Kekaha supermarket.
Walk for miles on the beach and only greet a few souls along the way.
Just give those roosters an alarm clock!!
