best- kept secrets in lodging accommodations here in Kernville, CA
Private yet located within walking distance to the stores and popular restaurants you have the best of both worlds. With a fully equipped kitchen and private patio with propane grill you can choose to stay in and prepare a meal or dine out at any one of the restaurants located nearby. The Riverbend Cottage is one of five rentals on the Sierra Gateway Property. It is private, clean, spacious and a detached unit. Bull Pines, shade trees, rose gardens, shrubs and flowers line the walkways around three of the rental.
You are 1/4 of a mile from the Kern River and approx. 5 miles from the nearest boat launching area on Lake Isabella. Although very secluded you are still within walking distance to James Sierra Gateway Market for all your grocery needs. Primo's Liquor and Deli is across the street as is Ewing's Steak House on the Kern River.
Just down the street is Kernville's very own brewery, the Kern River Brewery where all beers sold are made right there at the restaurant.
17 miles up the Kern River is the ever-popular McNally's Steak house where while enjoying the river views you can walk across the river by a historic bridge while enjoying a beverage and waiting for your table. Excellent food! McNally's is a favorite to most of Kernville's regular visitors and the residents.
Travel up the river about another 1/2 hour and you could take a walk through the "Trail of 100 Giants." This grove of giant redwood trees is one of the oldest and largest living and a spectacular well managed trail makes it accessible to all ages.
For all you outdoorsmen and women there are local business that offer guided tours for fishing, rafting, kayaking, canoeing and bicycling.

Additional notes from owner
To keep our rates affordable we ask each guests to leave the cottages as they found them. The kitchens, barbeques and patio areas must be cleaned before departure. No extra cleaning or security deposits are required, however, if the rental is not left as found additional charges will be placed on the credit card given at the time of reservation. Additional fees will also apply if there are damages, excessive trash, for the disruption of other guest etc. We have found that most of our guests are happy to comply with the house rules and therefore we have only rarely had to apply additional charges.

For my wife and I cleanliness is #1 when staying anywhere. If the room is not clean I cannot enjoy the stay no matter where we happen to be. I am happy to report that this cottage is very clean. The staff does an excellent job of maintaining this very comfy and tastefully decorated unit.
The unit itself features a lot of custom touches that you do not find in the typical big-box touristy hotels. This unit actually cannot be compared to a hotel room though. It is more like a small house. There is a back porch with custom rustic wood crafted chairs with extra large armrests that will hold not just a beverage but a pretty decent size plate for eating and watching the view. Great place to relax after a day of hiking, rafting, fishing or what have you.
Once the sun goes down, it's nice to come in and warm up by the fireplace.
The manager is very nice and accommodating. Very down-home and friendly, but not too country either. -

My husband and I visit Kernville at least one a year.
We always stay in one of the Sierra Gateway Cottages.
The cottages are charming,clean, neat and well maintained.
We look forward to relaxing in the evenings on the porch. Almost every trip we see deer feeding on the grass near by then cross the road toward the river.
Short walk to local market, restaurants and town.
Beautiful area, nice people. So many sites to see.
