Surya Damai, or ‘Peaceful Sun’ as it translates, is a name perfectly chosen for this enchanting Bali villa. Sunlight dapples through mature palms and flame trees lining 60m of river frontage with emerald rice terraces beyond in the tranquil village of Umalas. Gentle breezes and the soft tinkling of water create an overwhelming sense of calm and well-being enhanced by the smiling ever attentive Balinese staff.
Traditional tropical materials have been used in creating the villa, which was designed very much as a family home to be lived in and enjoyed – comfortable, practical and immediately welcoming. Alang alang thatch... roofs, hard wood decks and local stone is used alongside polished cream terrazzo floors and carved wooden panelling, all of a very high quality and immaculately maintained. Individually selected furniture, artwork and artefacts create character adding to the understated comfortable elegance.
The villa is centred around a large open-sided living pavilion overlooking the natural stone infinity-edge pool and well tended gardens. Meandering cut-stone pathways lead to individual dining and bedroom pavilions set close enough to be sociable (and in the case of families within easy sight and earshot) but with clever terracing and well planted gardens that also allow privacy.
The villa’s five bedrooms sleep up to 14 people and boasts sufficient creature comforts to keep a group this size happy: from cable television and surround-sound stereo systems to table tennis and even its own full size tennis court.
Should you wish to venture out of this idyllic setting, a seven-seater car and driver is available to guests (petrol extra) and you are only a short drive from the popular neighbourhoods of Legian and Seminyak which offer an endless selection of colourful shopping, dining and nightlife options; villa staff are happy to make recommendations and reservations. Alternatively, the villa has an in-house cook, a well equipped kitchen and a fairly extensive menu, including children’s meals, so you won’t go hungry. The staff will also shop and prepare meals at your request with no charge other than the price of ingredients and of course you are welcome cook your own meals if you wish.Read more
Located in the sleepy village of Umalas, within the district of Kerobokan, Surya Damai is nestled at the end of the road overlooking a small river and rice terraces. In the immediate vicinity there are only other villas and open countryside making this, on the whole, a very quiet area. A gentle 25-minute (or more energetic 15-minute) walk through the beautiful rice terraces and sleepy lanes will bring you to Batubelig beach.

Staff are attentive, accommodating and always welcoming. All of us - 10 adults, 3 kids...have only positive things to say about this villa. Its a great place to just relax and chill. The open air bathroom concept is interesting and something different from home. Very impressed with the cleanliness of the villa. All meals are delicious and thoughtfully prepared by the chef. The only time I felt really pampered on a holiday - this is that time.

The staff are amazing. Ive been to Bali many times, and the benchmark of service is already very high. The staff at Villa Surya Damai are the very best of the best. They are warm, friendly, unobtrusive, accommodating. Nothing a problem and all with the warmest feelings and smiles.
We were a group of 9 adults, 2 young children and an infant. Be aware that Bali Villas are not traditionally "kid friendly" in the way that australians are used to being cotton wooled. If you are that way inclined and want every risk catered for, Bali is probably not for you. I would suggest for anyone thinking of bringing kids or infants, this villa is perfect. There are a total of 14 amazing staff who both loved our kids and were loved back by the children.
The cook in the villa is amazing. He deserves as many stars as he likes. He can cook anything and everything. He competes very well with the very best of the Bali restaurants. You will not have to leave the villa for any of your meals if you so choose. On our stay, we ate 90% of our meals in-house and every meal was better than the last!!! Im a regular visitor to Bali, I know all the great restaurants and warungs and in Villa Surya Damai, you have your very own of the great restaurants of Bali. And it costs nothing. You pay for the ingredients at local prices. The staff go out each day and buy the ingredients you need to cater to the food you want to eat. The hardest part of the process is simply deciding what you want to eat each day.
The villa itself is beautiful. All 5 rooms are amazing. Two of the rooms are a little on the simpler side. In saying that every room is amazing and has its own beautiful en-suite.
There are many sitting areas. A central living room which is the place everyone can sit as a group and hang out. The eating room is amazing. Pool area is perfect.
This is a raving review of a perfect experience. Our entire group had an amazing experience at the hands of Villa Surya Damai.

The initial booking process by Bali Villa Retreats who are based in Perth with a team in Bali were excellent, efficient and very professional, with fantastic customer service. They made it all so easy and organised everything, including baby equipment (strollers, monitors etc ..) and VIP access thru the airport also. Villa Surya Damai was a fantastic place to stay for my fathers 70th birthday celebrations. 5 separate, luxury bedrooms meant each family still had privacy, which was great for myself and my sisters family as we both have young children and still wanted to give Mum and Dad, and my other brother some peace and privacy too! Excellent staff and the location was very peaceful.
