We stayed at 'The Nest' for our annual holiday a few years ago now as we wanted to explore the Lake District and wanted a central location from which to do so. Bassenthwaite village is a very small but charming little village. I remember it being a little complicated finding the farm as the roads are small - however once we had negotiated this all was fine. The owner was extremely accomodating and showed us to the nest which is essentially a 4 room cottage/bunglow style building with a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom & sitting room. Everything was very well catered for, the kitchen had everything we needed. The sitting room had a flat screen tv & DVD + there was free wi-fi. There was also a parking space outside. The location was so peaceful with great views of the neighbouring mountains. A lovely brook/stream runs outside with some great walks to go on. The owner has some ducks as well which you can feed if you ask + they had a lovely sheep dog that was very tame! There is a fantastic pub literally a stones through up the the road which you shoud visit for some cracking food and local beers.
I honestly could not complain and would love to come back - I mention this place everytime I talk about our holiday in the Lake District. -

We think this our seventh year staying with our large party in the various properties on Brook House Farm and once again we had a fantastic time. The properties are perfect for our mixed group of adults and children and are in a great location for walking in the surrounding hills. Mrs Trafford is always at hand for help and advice and we found the village pub to be friendly (including dog-friendly) with good food. We are already booked to go back again next year.

We have just returned from a much needed break in the Lake District and will definitely be returning. The location of The Nest is ideal being close enough to some fantastic walks but not far from Keswick which has a brilliant range of shops, restaurants etc.
Mrs T makes you feel at home and was very welcoming. Our accommodation was clean, comfortable and warm. It has everything you need and was fantastic value for money. We can't fault it! -

We stay in the nest at least three times a year and have been doing so for several years, which speaks volumes for our view of the cottage and family. While the cottage looks small from the outside , inside it is like a tardis and with all the necessary amenities you need to enjoy you break. it is lovely being able to open the stable door and watch the ducks passing by and there is always Mop ( the farm dog) looking for a treat and a stroke.
The cottage is always clean and tidy and is very comfortable. We have known the family for a number of years now and are always made to feel very welcome, including our little dog Jack.
The cottage is ideally situated for walking and is just a stones throw away from the local pub which serves good food and the bonus is it is very dog friendly. Perfect place to stay for a relaxing holiday. -

Could not have asked for more. Perfect for a de-stress break. Heaven is sitting on the bench outside The Nest in the evening with a bowl of pasta, glass of wine and a visit from Mop The Dog (who, by the way, is very partial to a sausage)!

Cosy cottage for two, ideal location for exploring the area, shame about the wet weather, even too wet for the ducks we think. Will definitely be returning in the brighter weather. Excellent value for money. Thank you.

A warm welcome from Mrs Trafford and the family made our arrival easy to this lovely country cottage for two. Based near the main farmhouse and farmyard there is always plenty to see such as the ducks waddling by to the stream and the hens running around. The cottage itself is excellent for a couple to stay with all the amenities we required, a well designed kitchen and bathroom. The lounge is very cosy and comfy with a warming log burning stove for the chillier evenings, with a TV and DVD player with a selection of Dvds. Very near, about 3 minutes walk away is the local country pub which also serves great food, so good its best to book! Children love to paddle and catch fish in the nearby beck(stream) so its best to take their wellies! A tranquil and peaceful spot for a break and I have been lots of times now and find as so as I arrive the stress just falls away from my shoulders. Have recommened this cottage to many of my friends already.
