We absolutely enjoyed our stay at The Loft (Rebecca puddleduck cottage) The Trafford family made us feel very welcome. We found the cottage very cosy and comfortable and very clean. We also liked the idea of staying on a working farm, we got to see some animals and saw the hard work that goes into farming! The cottage was not far from the market town Keswick (which we love) and there are some breathtaking sights to be seen nearby. We enjoyed our busy days out then coming back to the cottage and enjoying some peace and relaxation with a glass of red wine. Bliss

My husband and I have just returned from 5 nights stay in the Rebecca PuddleDuck cottage. We had a lovely time staying here. The cottage is in the perfect location to explore the Lake District. The views of the area are magnificent. The cottage has lots of character. The sound of ducks, cows and sheep was a lovely change from the hustle and bustle in London. The cottage is very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped. We especially loved the electric fire in the lounge area. It made the evenings feel very warm. Mrs Trafford was also very welcoming. We would definitely recommend this cottage to family and friends.

Yet another lovely holiday in Rebecca Puddle Duck cottage made even better by the fabulous weather. The sun shone through into the living room making it very pleasurable to spend time in particularly looking at the views of Skiddaw. The cottage has all the facilities you require for a comfortable stay. The addition of the shower and new lighting in the bedroom since our last stay are great improvements. The farm ducks are great to watch as usual and the newly hatched chicken is smashing. Whenever you visit there is always something new. The family are very welcoming and nothing is any trouble to them to make sure you have a good stay. Have recommended to many friends.

Great value, warm welcome, well equipped kitchen, great view of Skiddaw. Only problem was the ducks were not laying so we couldn't buy any eggs.

Hi, Pleased you had a good holiday in our Rebecca Puddle-duck cottage - one or two of the ducks were laying actually, but as soon as they were collected, they were in such demand , they were sold straight away. They will be in full lay in a month or so hopefully so we will have to post you some in bubble-wrap!

We stayed in the loft for a week in august and loved every moment of it. Mrs Trafford is really nice and friendly and will always help if you need anything or just stop for a chat.
The Loft is very clean and very comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. Everything that you need for a good stay is provided. The bed is really comfortable and the location is very peaceful. The bath was very nice to have to come back to after a day out walking. The views of Skiddaw out of the living room window are quite spectacular.
The location in the lovely quiet village of Bassenthwaite is excellent if you are looking to get away from it all. There is a lovely stream outside the cottage door and wonderful ducks that are lovely to sit and watch (and very cute when they are let out in the mornings) We often sat out there at dusk as well watching the bats flying around and looking at the stars - you get amazing views when away from the city lights.
There are plenty of walks around the village and out of it and if you are willing to walk up hill you can get excellent views of Bassenthwaite lake and surrounding areas.
You can walk down to the lake if you do not mind a bit of a walk that gets very close to nature at times.
The other best little find we made in this lovely village was the Sun Inn Pub. The staff are very friendly and it is a comfortable pub to have a nice drink in. We ate there one night and loved the food so much we booked again the next night (always book as it gets very full)
The nearest little shop is down the lane at the Trafford Caravan Park and they have the basics. We did however love the fresh duck eggs we got off Mrs Trafford a few days during our stay.
We loved everything about this holiday and had an amazing time. We will be booking again for next year definitely and recommending to anyone looking for this kind of holiday.

We have stayed in the Loft every October for at least 15 years. So refreshing to stay on a real working farm in a village unspoilt by modern living. No matter what the weather we always return home with fond memories. Mrs Trafford is there if you need any help and is always happy to have a little chat. If you want a holiday with fantastic scenery and walking for all abilities and within easy reach of Keswick, Bassenthwaite Hall Farm fits the bill.

My neighbours stayed here last year and said how much they enjoyed staying here - on a working farm in a lovely secluded village - they were right! - I especially enjoyed watching the Indian Runner ducks, who are looked after by alison who looks after the cottages, who I believe is the Farmers wife. nothing is too much trouble for alison who makes you feel very welcome. There is a good local pub (Sun Inn)for evening meals and a hotel restaurant a mile away (Castle Inn ) for a more formal meal. I stayed for 7 days and enjoyed every moment.

Thank you Mr Chambers for your kind words regarding your stay here at Puddle-duck cottages. Our aim is always to please the customer, and guide and make suggestions to them each day, if needed, in order that they have an enjoyable day,
(without hastling them !) and make sure everything is satisfactory in the cottage. We are always open to comstructive critisism however small the matter will be. Mr Chambers had many a good walk, and I believe clocked up 30 miles while he was here. We will be delighted to see Mr Chambers return to Puddle-duck cottages and pleased he will recommend us. -

Great little cottage for a weekend getaway - perfect fro 2 but 3 might be a squeeze.
Was clean and and facilties were good - only complaint would be "why aren't loo rolls provided" seemed a little mean.
Would recommend the Sun Inn in the village for good value food - with large portions and friendly service, -

My parents have been coming to the Trafford's since 1988. They have stayed in four of the cottages and each time have had an exceptional experience. My parents regard Mr and Mrs Trafford as friends, and look forward to coming each year.
For myself, this is the first time in 14 years that I have been back, and my first time staying in the Loft. It is an adorable little cottage, with a fantastic view of Skiddaw. It was spotless on arrival, with everything that you needed. It is a lovely cosy, welcoming envirnoment to return to after a long days walk. You are made to feel right at home, with a cheery wave from everyone in the morning! There is a brook a few steps away, that I spent many happy childhood holidays playing in (and falling in!)
This is a beautiful place to stay, and I would recommend it to anyone of any age.Response from Philip Trafford - 04/10/2011

It was lovely to see Rebecca return this year after 14 years. I have known the Parker family since the children were very small, and watched them grow up, year on year. They a friendly family who enjoy the countryside and all Bassenthwaite and surrounding lakes have to offer. We look forward to seeing them for many years to come!!

Thoroughly enjoyed our second stay in the Loft. Our first stay was in winter where the cottage was a lovely warm retreat after a days walking. It was equally as good during the summer. Comfortable and suprisingly spacious upstairs. It was really quirky sleeping downstairs and living upstairs but the views of Skiddaw form the living room were stunning. The family are really welcoming and very knowledgeable about the area. Can't wait to visit again.
