WiganPeace, Quiet and a stunning location
Left on 11/08/2012 for a stay in October 2012
Our visit in October was our second visit to Foxwood having stayed here the same time last year. In the year between our visits, the owners have added an extension onto the rear of the property, which is locked to the guests but have opened up the middle sitting room which is a welcome extra area as the front lounge is rather small, although very cosy with an open fire which we love. The kitchen is well equipped and has everything needed. The drying room/porch and understairs storage are very handy, as is the additional downstairs shower room. The upstairs is super, large bathroom with bath and two really large bedrooms with comfy beds and plenty storage. Having added the extension however, the master bedroom window which overlooked the garden and river has been moved to the side with a less attractive view. All in all a lovely cottage which we will be booking again. It would be perfect if the extension was available to guests as it would be a lovely place to relax and view the garden and river but that's just being greedy really!

Very well appointed traditional cottage that was very clean and well prepared, very comfortable. booking and joining arrangements were very efficient. Nice touch that biscuits were provided in welcome pack following others comments that it would be a welcome addition. Living room could be a touch small for a family but was great for the two of us. There appeared to be no heating in the back bedroom which meant we used the front one. Appreciated the wifi but no mobile signal. Fabulous location, unfortunately did not make use of the garden etc as it rained most of the time for our two nights stay. Overall a realy good place for a short romantic break

Tastefully renovated traditional Cumbrian farm cottage with all amenities. Sitting room a little small for four but comfortable, spacious bedrooms, with well appointed kitchen, bath and shower rooms. Fabulous walking, spectacular scenery, Excellent local coffee shop and pub. Wonderful theatre in Keswick. Everyone very friendly.

The cottage was ready for us when we arrived. It was immaculate and extremely clean.
There were more things provided than we expected, such as handwash, fairy liquid and a supply of coal.
A lovely touch was that the fire was set up ready for us.
We knew from the website that the living room was small, but we were not preapared for upstairs, which was so much bigger than we anticipated. The master bedroom has an enormous, comfortable bed. This room has a double aspect with views over the stream and the countryside. The other bedroom is also large with lovely views, although a little marred due to the building work going on just outside.
There is a bathroom upstairs and a shower room downstairs.
A bit more space downstairs would make this cottage perfect for us. We will be returning. -

InvernessWonderful short break holiday

Foxwood Cottage was in a great location being in the heart of Borrowdale with walks from the door. The fuel for the fire was very much appreciated and very essential in the colder nights with only night-store heating in the cottage. Overall though I would rate the whole experience very highly and thoroughly reccommend!

Wigan Lancashirea rainy week in Borrowdale!

We loved Foxwood Cottage even though the weather was absolutely atrocious while we were there. The cottage itself has everything you need. The lounge, although quite small, was cosy and as the weather had turned quite coolish!! kept nice and warm with the open fire in the evening. The bedrooms were huge and beautifully furnished with plenty storage, comfy beds and stupendous views. The garden goes down to the river and we can imagine that, in nice weather, it would be lovely to sit out and enjoy stargazing at night. Take a torch if you are venturing out at night because with no lights in the lane it is totally dark which we townies forget about. We would recommend Foxwood to anyone seeking peace and quiet and a wonderful location for walking. For really excellent food eat at the Langstrath and do try the cheese soufle and the Brill - not cheap but well worth the money (but do book a table first especially at weekends as it is really popular) We love the area anyway and had a really enjoyable week in Foxwood cottage.
