Captain Tad's Place is a two-bedroom vacation rental, two-bath duplex located right on the water in the city of Key Colony Beach in Marathon Key, Florida. Tad and Susan Grubbs are the on-site owners and operators of this resort location and strive to make sure the rental home is cleaner than any other in the city.

You will find that the rates at Captain Tad's are very reasonable for such a large and well-maintained apartment home, on the water with a boat dock.
When you arrive, your weekly rent plus tax is due. The security deposit will be returned to you by mail after inspection.

We stayed as a family of four. The small bed was vey small, the 6th berth must have been the sofa. The other posts are all accurate about the house. You are actually only hiring the top floor which has it's own front door. There is no phone available, but Tad and Susan called out for a pizza for us one night. Tad and Susan live on site on the ground floor. The washing machine and dryer are situated in the yard and you share when the rentals washing is done. There is no hall light so you cannot access the washer/dryer in the evening.
The garden is beautiful with caged parrots and two cute dogs. Captain Tad secures his boat on one side of the dock and you have shared use of the other. When Tad has a charter, the customers land there, then walk across to the shared garden to gut the fish. We didn't expect this, and were all sunbathing and fishing when they dismbarked, and worked at the gutting station 4ft away from us.
No paypal or visa is taken, and I had to send travellers cheques from the UK through the post to secure the deposit, and then cash payment given at start of holiday. There was no invoice of sale given to us.
All was fine, except on the last evening my huisband was relaxing in garden with my daughter, talking about the planning of Grandad's funeral, and they were given a lecture about the rules for tidying up the condo before we left. He was really irritated that they had been disturbed in such a strident way,it is nothing to do with tenant's how busy you are, and he felt nagged when it should have been private time on the last night. When you let your home, it's not acceptable to do this. I hope it was just a oversight at that time, but it did change the mood when we had already packed up and were relaxing.
We never found the hot- tub - maybe they used to have one at Cabana Club, but not anymore.
The place was lovely and so were Sue and Tad, these were just thing's, it would have been better to know at the start. We took a fishing charter with Tad who was so kind, and knowledgable and a huge hit with my family. Go and stay there - it is a lovely place.Response from William T Grubbs Jr - 04/27/2013

Tad's Place is family operated and we are on site to fix any and all requests by our customers. We have been here for 20 years and eveyone loves the family atmosphere we provide. Diane and Johns family were great, I am not sure about these issues she mentioned because nothing was conveyed to us while they were here. The rental was booked via e-mail before arriving Diane asked for her balance and it was given. We do not accept visa or mastercard for any of our rentals. When we setteled up I would have gladley given her a receipt but was not asked for one. Our single bed upstairs is a normal twin bed followed by a kingsize bed in that bedroom. We have a new washer and dryer downstairs with a light above it and along the walkway. If there was a problem all Diane had to do is ask for assistance.This is a duplex and we share the yard and dock. We were so sad to hear of Johns Dad passing back in the U. K. the morning of our fishing trip. John and family deceided to go ahead and fish the day and everyone had a fun day and I am sure his dad would have been proud of that. In conclusion the last night while My wife Susan was in the garden talking and saying their goodbyes John asked her about what to do upstairs for checkout. Susan explained there was a set of checkout rules on the front of the refrigerator. If any one was upset we did not know about it and would try to fix it. We enjoy many folks visiting from all over the world at our family run vacation rental. Capt Tad Grubbs Owner.

We stayed with Tad and Susan, they were great hosts. Tad does fishing trips, which are great as he really knows both ocean and gulf side, better priced than most of the major boats and he is on your door step. The boat is great and child friendly.
The apartment is typical florida style, it has new windows with mosi nets and the bathrooms cannot be older than 6 months. The decor else could do with a paint but it did not hamper our stay or affect our trip. The TV there is huge and has the usual access to a million channels. The kitchen has all the things you need, no issues. Parking out the front, and if you have one, a boat mooring out the back. The property has free WiFi.
The location is a major key factor, it is a few minutes walk to Cabanna Club (and your stay includes membership). It has a beach, which is really sandy and a pool (with a 3 ft deep shallow end) which is great for kids. The food there is usual stuff, but fresh and well presented. The bar there is great, and a wide selection of drinks.
10 minutes walk, from Tads, is Leigh ann's a great coffee house and Sparky's Landing a great fish restaurant. Both highly rated and child friendly.

Love the Florida Keys, Place was clean. Needs some remodeling. Kitchen needs more cooking utensils. Love Capt Tad and Susan ...This key closes up to early. Its not a Party place just a great relaxing place. Beach is small but there is one Cabana cub is great where the pool is..Going back to keys but want nightlife that in Key West...

I have stayed at Tads Place many times now and keep coming back for more. The accommodation has everything you could need and is very comfortable. I've been here fishing with 3 friends and also with my wife and 3 kids and it never feels crowded.
Chilling on the dock after fishing with Tad is always a highlight.
The location is also ideal for exploring. Whether you like to fish, dive, lay on the beach, swim in the pool (Cabana Club 2 mins away), or just hang out on the dock. Key West is only a leisurely 45 mins away, but closer on your doorstep are a whole bunch of good quality eating establishments.
Tad & Sue are excellent company and always make us feel very welcome.
Can't wait to come back -

Have just returned from two weeks at Captain Tads and had afabulous time. I travelled with two friends and we were here for the fishing but I have stayed at Tad and Sues before with my family and had an equally good time. Tad and Sue are perfect hosts offering good old fashioned Southern hospitality with advice on places to eat and things to see and do.They are friendly, top company, un-intrusive and helpful. The place is very comfortable, spotlessly clean and has everything you need for your stay. The membership for the Cabana Club (about 70 yards away) gives you the beach, a lovely pool, food and drinks.The shops in Marathon are a short drive away and the parade of shops on the nearby causeway has a great cafe and bar.
We always go fishing with Captain Tad and had 4 trips this time. I have fished with dozens of skippers over the years and he is the best. Always puts us on fish and we had 4 cracking days. Grouper, sharks,snappers, cobia and permit amoung the highlights.
My favourite spot in the Keys and Ill be back soon.Many thanks Tad and Sue.
