We left the house in great condition and the owners kept part of our deposit due to "excess usage" We had 15 guests for an intimate family wedding on one evening from 7pm-10 pm. Quiet, mature group. 9 people stayed in the home for 5 days.
As we were doing laundry and cleaning this big house we wondered why we didn't stay in a motel/hotel. We paid a reasonable amount per night yet cleaning wasn't included. We paid a cleaning fee plus gave up a portion of our deposit and yet we cleaned and did laundry before departing.
In addition 2 members of our group had bites all over their bodies after sleeping in the beds..sand fleas or bedbugs?Response from elizabeth abbott - 02/05/2013

You wrote a very favorable review in our guest book upon your departure. And, in your follow up email to us requesting your deposit, you wrote, "Your house is fabulous, and we had the best of times...we hope to make this an annual event." We made every attempt to make your stay pleasurable. The rate we extended was much more reasonable than any nearby hotel, especially for the number of people in your party. You weren't refunded your entire deposit because you hosted a wedding at our home without telling us. We asked several times how many people would be with you, and you stated 9, with a few day visitors on Saturday or Sunday, never mentioning a wedding. You told us afterwards there were 9 house guests plus 14 wedding guests, which is in direct violation of the signed contract. If our rental agency had been handling this contract, and they found out you were having or had a wedding without telling them, you would have been asked to leave and your deposit would have been retained. We have many requests to host weddings, no one has ever felt it wasn't worth mentioning to us as the homeowner. Your rate was not reflective of what we would charge for having the house at full capacity plus hosting an event.
No one, including us, or you (until now), has ever experienced or mentioned bed bugs. -

My wife and other friends rent vacation houses often, usually the pictures oversell the house and while we always have a good time anyway, the houses usually don't live up to the sales pitch in the photos. This house was the complete opposite, the master suite is spectacular, the master bath has a $5000 Toto toilet that does everything you could ever want a toilet to do and then some, the seat is heated!! The kitchen is equipped with top of the line Miele and Thermador appliances, pool was beatiful, all of the bedrooms and guest rooms were very nice. The property is spacious inside and out very nicely decorated, and you really feel like you are a guest in a wealthy friends home. Would definitely go back.
We also had fun at night looking at the sea life in the little basin, there were hog fish sleeping in there for the night, horseshoe crabs doing it, a bunch of little mangrove snapper, baby barracudas and tarpon, and we even caught some fish from the end of the dock, including a small tarpon! -

We sent a wonderful week at Mahogany Bay over Thanksgiving. The property is much more impressive in person than it appears in the photos. Every amenity is top of the line and the overall experience provides the perfect "Keys vacation". Our Host Beth made the process simple and stress free and was very helpful and attentive. My sons loved the compound, caught fish off the dock and lived in the pool. It was very realxing and yet very close to many Key Largo attractions. I would highly recommend this property.

My husband and I totally enjoyed our 5 days at Mahogany Bay! The accommodations were ideal, everything one would need. Restaurants nearby, but not necesary as our kitchen was fully equiped and spacious.
