Reisterstown, MarylandGreat Location, needs work.
Left on 10/19/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We'd stayed at Conch Casa the previous two times we were in Key West, and decided to try something else as that unit has a teeny kitchen area and the pool is a some distance away.
The two best points of the place are the pool is on site, and the sitting area is large, with a nice sized kitchen. I'm still deciding if we'll return to this suite.
The minuses (these weren't broken things, but built in stuff, so I saw no point in contacting the management for fixes): The ice maker didn't work. I'm a "fix it" person, so I pulled out the ice tray and dumped the ice out to see if I could make it work. It wasn't until I did that that I spotted the sign on the outside of the frige that said "ice maker doesn't work." The next day, after the ice tray was filled, I noticed that the water line was leaking and made a stalagmite of solid ice, blocking the mechanism. Okay. Refrigerator should be replaced.
The only bathroom in the unit is adjacent to the kitchen, At least we didn't really do any cooking in the kitchen, it would have been weird. The bedroom is up a steep flight of stairs. The stairs are a bit problematic as the very first stair tread from the top isn't as deep as the rest. You don't notice it climbing up, but I nearly tumbled the first time I went down. You've got to place your foot very carefully on that first step. At least the banister is sturdy. The air conditioner in the bedroom is as loud as a diesel truck. You can't exactly turn it off because you roast being up near the roof. Oh, and the roof is right there. You can't stand up next to the bed, but have to bend over or sit down to avoid bumping your head. There isn't a full length mirror in the whole place. It would be nice to have one near the door.
We only used the private Jacuzzi twice as we prefer to sit in the hot tub after dark, but because of the motion activated security light mounted on the building, we got spotlighted when we were out there. It felt like we were being interrogated. The light shone right in our faces in the hot tub. Not very romantic or cozy. The private deck could use some "style" it felt very trailer park. Just a plastic table and four chairs. A black plastic ashtray on the table really set the trailer park theme. Adding a planter out there (maybe a bamboo to shield the Jacuzzi from the security light) would have made the deck feel more "special."
Bicycle parking in the complex got to be tough once all the residents had bikes. Quite the tangle. At least there was room to put our bikes on our porch.
We liked the sitting area and the big TV. The sofa was comfy. Having a second TV upstairs was nice when he wanted to watch sports, and I didn't. We did notice that my remote would change the channel on the TV downstairs.
We'll probably look at one of the other units in the same complex before deciding to repeat in Sunset Suite. It is a nice unit, reasonably priced. It has some quirks, but it is comfortable and convenient to Old Town. -

Problem with the sleeper sofa, air conditioner in bedroom and ice maker
Response from Key West Vacation Rentals - 12/06/2011
Manager
Thank you for your comments. You brought this to our attention during your stay and the first 2 items were immediately rectified. The ice maker is in the door and a new spring was needed to dispense from the door. This is now fixed. We do hope you return to visit us again, problems do occur in homes but our staff tries to fix them as soon as they occur. Stay warm!

Been to say location 2 years in a row. People at Kwvr are very friendly and helpfull. The ammenities at room were great. Towels are nice and thick, Tvs are newer flat screens. Location to Duval St is its best asset though. Never get back in car onced parked. If there were any issues with room, like everything else in Key West it is alittle cramped. Also the stairs up to bed after night of drinking were not cool at all. Slept on couch downstairs some but it was comefy. All and all another great time at key west and would go back to same area

The Sunset Suite was an inviting refuge after a day of exploring Old Town Key West during the height of the Holiday Season. The management company was accomodating and personable which contributed to feeling right at home.
My travel partner "Buddy Boy the Island Dog" said he was comfortable too.Response from Key West Vacation Rentals - 10/15/2010

Hi Buddy Boy's Mom, hope you are having a great weekend!
We were just wondering why you only gave us a 1 star rating...is there something we can do to improve Sunset Suite?

Very spacious, relaxing, and just perfect. It was within walking distance of everything. We would definitely come back for another visit.

This suite was amazing. Location was perfect, right behind Duval Street, before all of the clubs/bars. The nightlife was just a few blocks away so you weren't bothered by drunk vacationers. The suite felt like home and had all the amenities. I would recommend this place and can't wait to go back!

This unit is within walking distance to everything and has a great kitchen. We loved the patio with hot tub and having a private fenced area to park our bikes.
The bathroom was extremely small and the bedroom was hard to walk in (it was a loft space with angled ceilings) but the living room was comfy and everything was nicely appointed and clean. -

Quiet location within walking distance to Duval St. Ice cold air conditioning. Great wall mounted 42" plasma TV. Spent half our time on our personnal deck or in our personnal hot tub. Pool (about 10 steps around the corner to the left) gets full sun. You have to be careful while using the steps to the loft (bedroom). They're a little steep and not very wide. You also have to watch yourself walking around up there with the sloped ceiling. That is the only reason we don't give 5 stars. As far as "we'll be back", we already rented this place for another week and enjoyed it just as much as our first visit.

My husband and I stayed in the Sunset Suite for our wedding @ Ft.Zachary in Nov.2007. It was very cozy and had everything we wanted nearby. It was also very secluded with the private fenced in area with the hot-tub. It was especially nice when we arrived and found a lovely card and bottle of champagne chilled for us for our wedding. Check-in and Check-out was so easy. We also had family staying at another nearby Key West Vacation Rental which was also very nice. Would recommend it to anyone. As with anywhere in Key West parking was tough.
We are planning to return every other year to celebrate our anniversary, and will be looking forward to the wonderful staff to help us set it up again.
See you soon

Winthrop Harbor, ILWe enjoyed our stays in Sunset Suite in 2007 and 2008.
Left on 06/25/2009 for a stay in February 2008
Sunset Suite was clean, neat and nicely decorated. The kitchen was well equipped compared to what we experienced when we'd stayed without our pets at a major resort in Key West. Sunset Suite provided special things for pets, like couch covers that kept things clean for people but provided a comfortable bed for our two Labrador Retrievers. We crated our "girls" when we went out and used a gate to keep them off the open steps to the loft bedroom. The decor by the pool was very nice. I read there a lot, and it was was hard to believe that we were only a block behind Duval. Parking in Key West is limited, so we waited for a close spot and then rented a golf cart nearby when we wanted to sight-see. My only complaint is that there was sometimes cleaning equipment parked in the gravel area near our unit where guests could "potty" their dogs. Everyone did a good job of picking up after their pets. The staff was friendly and helpful. We'll be back!

I was staying at the sunset suite for a bachlor party and all the groomsmen had great accomodations, but seems like my place turned into the hot spot for the party. Was it because I was close to the pool? Was it the hot tub? Maybe it was my undulable charm? Probably the first two, but it was a great room at a great price. Highly recommended!

My sister, my two daughters and I (all adults) stayed in the Sunset Suite in February, 2009. The Suite was just as it was represented on the website. It is small but was big enough for the four of us. It was very clean and nicely decorated. The little deck area with the hot tub was great for relaxing after a day of sightseeing. The Suite is nestled in a tropical feeling area off the street so it was very quiet. Finding parking was always an adventure, but that is true of all of Key West. We managed to get ourselves locked out of the Suite one evening with all of our purses and cell phones inside. we went next door and borrowed a neighbors phone. He was also renting from the same rental company, and therefore had the emergency contact number. We called the number and we were given simple instructions on finding the master key and were back in the Suite in a matter of minutes. The contact person was very patient and helpful even though we obviously woke her in the middle of the night. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Sunset Suite to a couple or small group who want a great alternative to staying in a hotel.

We loved our stay at the Sunset Suite in Key West. It was like having our own
private little piece of paradise. Outside our private patio was a shared pool. It
was nice meeting and spending time with other people staying in nearby units
and still being able to have our own private space. Perfect location - within
walking distance to everything. Amazingly quite since it was just half a block
from Duval Street. The house was very clean and inviting. And when we
arrived, the good folks at Key West Vacation Rentals had the hot tub warm and
ready for us. Key West Vacation Rentals was very accommodating. They were
very helpful with suggestions for dining, transportation, etc. I have and will
continue to recommend them to anyone planning a trip to Key West. The only
bad thing about our stay, was we had to leave. But we are looking forward to
returning and we will be calling KW Vacation Rentals when we do. -

The Sunset Suite was wonderful, I was there with my husband and two young boys and we had plenty of space. It was clean, updated and had an adorable pool(right outside the unit), not to mention your own private patio and hot tub. The location to Duval St. was perfect, close but not loud. Easy check in and out and friendly staff. I definitely recommend it and would stay there again!

Cassopolis, MIParking only problem
Left on 06/25/2009 for a stay in May 2009
Just be forewarned that parking is hideous in Key West, and this condo has no off-street parking. Our first night we had to park in a pay lot quite some distance (probably could have found closer, but we had never been there before and had no clue). Luckily the next day someone moved and we were able to park right in front.
Besides that, though, we really liked the place. (Could have a little better lighting at night - the path was really dark - maybe a light was out.) The hot tub was clean, the interior was spotless, and it was very quiet at night. The upstairs had a pretty low ceiling (my tall husband noticed that), but it wasn't claustrophobic low. Somehow the A/C managed to keep up, even upstairs. (Don't know if that would hold true in August...)
The location was great, for us - just off Duvall, but well east of the worst of it. It was a pleasant walk (we had GREAT weather, not so incredibly hot) each day to whatever sights we wanted to visit. There was also a CVS close by for any essentials (soft drinks, liquor, snacks) we may have needed. If you are staying long enough, there is also a laundromat at the end of the short street.
The directions we had been given to find both the rental office and the condo were all clear and we had no problems with that. One thing would be nice on the directions to the condo - more parking areas (further away) noted!
All in all - I would definitely stay here again. -

Sunset Suite is unique and fantastic. The kitchen is well equiped but small which doesn't bother me. The TV is large when you need to wind down. The bath is efficient. The loft takes a little getting used to, but we liked it. The private deck and spa was great! Privacy is very important to my husband and myself and to be so close to everyone, it is very private. The location is perfect. We power walked every a.m., came back prepared breakfast and read on the private deck. We could be on Duval in a minute or two and the laundry was a half block away. The pool right outside did not interest us because there were children jumping in and out, but we went to the pool across the street. It is very nice, but the heater was not working in it and it was November and even in Key West you need the water heated. The people that you register with or call if you need anything are very nice. Last Christmas/New Year we stayed at Heron Hideaway reserved thru the same people and it was great also. No complaints, just a little further from Duval than Sunset Suite. I would highly recommend either of these cottages. Pam and Jeff, Daphne, AL
