Rented this house for me and my wedding party! House had everything I needed from location to pool to bar! This house is ideal for anyone who enjoys being self sufficient . We were able to enjoy our wedding weekend while still having the comfort of being at home. We travel to the Florida keys monthly and this house is perfect!!!
The only down side is the parking. The house has one parking spot only. But if that's the worst of your problems you'll be just fine!! -

Left on 03/23/2013 for a stay in March 2013
House had a great location. Close to everything in Old Town section. Maybe a little too close to the bars. The noise from the bars at night was very loud and went on until very early in the morning (3 or 4am). The kitchen, bathrooms and furniture were outdated and rundown. I would not recommend this place to a friend.

The Whitehead House is an older home and is priced accordingly. If someone wants a newly furnished, recently built home then this is not the house for them. The mattresses have been replaced and the house is updated with wireless internet. Its in an incredible part of downtown so if you are looking for that perfect location in a comfortable home at a great price, this is the place.

We have been to KW many times and love the area. 219 Whitehead is in the perfect location. We walked every where. we stayed for 16 days and had our kids and grandkids join us. The space was good for us and I liked having the master bedroom and bath upstairs. My only complaint would be that the house is in need of updating and repairs, a coat of paint would go along way to making this house more appealing. I would like to see better locks on the main doors and the house could have been cleaner. My kids and I agree that we would stay here again. wish the pool was heated and the trees trimmed back to allow more sun.

My husband and I love Key West and brought two other couples with us to try our hands at Lobster Tickling and soak up the Key West culture. We love house rentals and Whitehead House is a prime example of why...great open floor plan that leads out to the pool. The pool area is huge, one of the biggest I've seen with KW rental houses.
There were plenty of towels, sheets and kitchen equipment. We grilled all the lobsters we caught and found great spices already in the house, which was a plus.
A lot of people have complained about the noise level, we were actually there during Bike Week and the most annoying noise were the Roosters before the sun was even up! :) We are in our 30's and stayed up past mid-night but really didn't hear anything that was out of the norm.
The house location is great as well, so close to everything downtown but yet you still feel like you're on an island oasis.
We will for sure stay at Whitehead again! -

Really spacious and comfortable cottage. Having our own private pool was great. Highly recommend to others. The rental agent was very helpful and made things easy. Only criticism is that the floors could have been cleaner. We had a toddler and it was really not clean enough for her to crawl on also, even though there are 3 bedrooms, because of their size and their being connected through the downstairs bathroom, think it would be tight quarters for 3 couples. Otherwise I would highly recommend. Also, great location!

Location, location, location was Plus !. Great time had by all. Only major negative was the mattresses. All rooms need help. My wife says she would have like to have had more paper products to get the week started. Other than that we can't think of anything else.

There's now nothing else to think about at the Whitehead House but enjoying a relaxing, good time since the bed issue has been resolved. The mattresses were not the problem, it was the box springs. These have now been replaced with new ones. We stock the house house with a starting supply of paper products then it's up to the guests to replenish it if they run out. Conveniently, there is a CVS store just a few blocks away.

The house is beautiful, the location is a dream to get anywhere in Key West. Enjoyed the visiting iguanas while we were in the pool, and being in the pool at night listening to the bands from near by bars was better than playing an ipod. Just an ideal vacation rental!!! -

We really enjoyed the fabulous pool, the landscaping, the iguanas. The house itself is spacious but a little worn. Specifically, the twin beds need to be updated and the outside lounge chairs need to be replaced. Other than that, it is a lovely place, close to downtown. There is a good grill and area to eat outside. Pictures on website don't do it justice. It is much bigger than it looks.

Six of us girls were looking for a place close to Duval and sunsets and were rewarded with the perfect location! The house was close to everything and yet we still had privacy. The place is perfect for young party people but not for quiet or kids. Steve and the rest of the staff at Rent Key West were amazing and made the process very easy stress free. The house was even bigger than what we thought from the pictures and easily accommodated all of us, and the property owner is so wonderful to deal with!

The total experience with Rent Key West Vacations was first class. They really know how to provide world class customer service.
The Whitehead House location and amenities surpassed my expectations. The pool was fantastic and very clean. The house layout is very open and comfortable and perfect for entertaining (one of my sons got married while we were there and the house was the central meeting place for everyone who came down for the wedding). One thing you must note is that the location is one block off of Duval and the music at the bars is loud, but the positive side is you can sit at the pool or on the balcony at night and listen to decent live music for free. -

Have visited Key West several times and stayed in different places (all nice) and locations - Whitehead House is the most convenient location to Mallory Square and a very spacious home with a great private pool. We were 3 couples and we all enjoyed our week long stay.
We didn't take advantage of the kitchen area (ate out) but it was well-stocked and clean. We're already talking about scheduling again for next year. Rent Key West Vacations made all the arrangements easy and seamless. -

I just got back from a week in Key West with 5 other girls this house was absolutely amazing! The only cab ride was to and from the airport! Great location and great house! We will all be staying here again. The owner lives in front of the house and stopped by to check on us and was very accomodating as was Rent Key West. Might be a little loud for families since there was a bar next door, but never bothered us.

The heating of the large, private pool would be a nice addition to this historic property though the lack of this keeps the house at a lower, more affordable price, compared to our other 3 bedroom downtown homes in our inventory.

Mattress in downstairs queen bedroom was unacceptable. Only one person could sleep in bed. Other had to sleep on couch. Must have been a known problem as there was a board and book under on bad side. The side by the wall was lower by at least 3 inches. No way to not roll toward wall on top of other person. Otherwise, superb! Great house. Great layout. Perfect location. Would stay there again if mattress replaced!
Would definitely recommend under condition friend asked about mattress situation.

My husband and I just recently rented the Whitehead house during boat week. In the past, we have stayed at The Ocean Key because of its location of 0 Duval St. We wanted to be close to Mallory Square, Schooner Wharf and Duval...we got all 3! We were steps away from everything! Not only was the location amazing, but the house was fabulous and very private! The master bedroom upstairs with the French doors opening to the balcony overlooking the pool was my favorite room. My husband said he will never stay at a hotel again! ...I only wish the pool had been heated!

First, the big positives! The pool and private courtyard are outstanding, with an outdoor table and chairs, lounge chairs, grill, and lovely plants & trees. The location can't be beat as everything near Mallory Square and Duval is within walking distance. It was ideal for taking our dacshunds on walks, and we also walked to our scuba excursions near the Hyatt.
The house has plenty of living space and the owner was very helpful and pleasant. The house is generally in good condition for its age.
The mild negatives. The bathrooms were not huge which could be an issue for larger groups. Masters upstairs has double vanity and decent size shower. Second bath on main level has single vanity with a small shower. The laundry is off of the pool area, although that did make it noise free to the living area.
The open kitchen is serviceable for cooking. However, we mostly ate out and dined on leftovers.
Overall, we would say this house is ideal if you're planning to enjoy the sites and outdoors of Key West Old Town. -

The Whitehead House was everything we needed. We were in town for a wedding and we had no idea how close we were to the action on the main street! We had music playing each night from the restaurant behind the house which gave us a nice background for hanging out at night around the pool. A quick walk to everything! We felt secluded since plants and trees mostly blocked our view of the street and our own private pool made the vacation that much nicer! The house was clean and refreshing. Everyone slept comfortably. On the final night it rained and it was extremely loud due to the sun windows. The only other downfall we saw was rats ran across the back fence twice on our stay I think becuase of the restaurant garbage. If you are young and want to have a good rate and fun location, this is the place for you!

nothing againest key west realty it is obvious the owner is too cheap to have lounge chair's by his pool and at least one float would have been nice and since we own a pool at home he is also could have had a major problem especiallly when the pool guy only show's up once a week to take care of the pool. if we had not put water in the pool he would have been in big trouble thing' would have shut down and that would have been the end of the motor

This house is literally steps away from Sloppy joes,Irish Kevins,Mallory square, two liquor stores, tons of food options and pletny of shopping all on the same block. We had a legendary stay here and the house accomadations were perfect. Playing cards and games, plenty of towels, private secure pool area comfortable beds. The music is loud at night but thats why we chose this house. There is a bathroom upstairs and a bathroom between the two downstairs bedrooms. The kitchen is large and accomadating for large meals with everything you need. Parking for additional cars can be arranged very affordably at the adjacent parking lot. About $10 per day and they will negotiate with you. The pool was sunny and perfect!

This was our first trip to Key West. The house was in great shape for an older house. The upstairs "master" bedroom was very noisy from the neighboring bars, but due to the fact that it has 2 walls of windows. We are night people so it wasn't a huge problem for us. The pool area was very nice. Pool is not heated and was cold, so we never used it. The location makes up for all the downfalls. It is in walking distance to basically everything you need, except for groceries. I would definitely book this house again.

This house is in a great location behind the excitement of some of the Duval street bars but with this location comes loud bands playing until 2-3 am which is bothersome if you intend on sleeping before then. The house and pool are nice but be warned that the pool is not heated and in November the pool/deck does not get any sun! We picked this house for the location and private pool and ended up not being able to use the pool at all. Very disappointing!

This was the best house ever! It suited our needs to a tee and was in the best location to suit everyone. One block off of Duval made it easy for everyone to get around, young and older alike. Definitely an easy walk to Mallory Square, wharf, dinning, and entertainment. The home itself was perfect. Since we had a full house I was worried about space, but the common living space and outdoor space were so open that no one felt like we were on top of each other. The fact that we were back off the street made it seem like we had our own little piece of Key West. Everyone we came in contact with, from the owner to Rent Key West staff were so helpful and nice. We have stayed at this rental previously and we do enjoy the property and location to Duval Street and Mallory Square. The nightlife on Duval Street this year was very annoying. Left on 03/05/2010 for a stay in February 2010
The size and layout of the house is great (5 adults during our stay), but the noise from bands/patrons at nearby bars until late morning hours made it very difficult to get a restful night's sleep at this house. Compounding the issue is the fact that many of the windows don't securely close, allowing the noise to filter into the house.
Like other reviews, some TLC needed but good location and layout as long as you're willing to give up some sleep during your vacation. -

Chicago, IllinoisWhitehead House - Lopez Family (2 Weeks)
Left on 06/22/2009 for a stay in July 2008
My family (myself, my mom, 4 nieces) really enjoyed our 2 week stay at the Whitehead House. The services were definately adequate. We really enjoyed the location of the house. It was very near all the venues for children. The location of a parking lot behind the property was not too bad except on weekends when the noise level was at its peak, but tolerable. We did have some setbacks that would have made the trip much better for us:
1) The pool had not been cleaned. On the Saturday afternoon we arrived the pool water was a pale shade of green and cloudy. It remained that way until the pool service technician arrived on Monday morning. We asked that he stop by every two to three days due to the length of time we were staying and because of our intended usage.
2) Into the second week of our stay the air conditioning wasn't working propery. We endured several days of inadequate cooling. It appeared that the intake filter had not been changed for some time or less frequently than required. The pool was our salvation. Upon checking out, we were told that a new unit would need to be installed.
3) My mom is a clean freak and noticed that only the visible areas in the house were clean. Each day she moved all the furniture, swept, mopped and vacumed in all the rooms. In her defense, I have to say that the house was much cleaner when we left.
In conclusion, I have to say again that we really enjoyed our stay. The owners daughter lives in the front unit and was really nice to us. She frequently complimented us on our daily cleaning rituals with the children.
Kind regards,
Aaron Lopez

The location of this house couldn't have been better. We were able to sit right outside the gate and watch the Fantasy Fest Parade go by! However, for the price of a weekly rental we expected the house to be nicer. While it wasn't a dump by any means, the furnishings were all old and we could tell they had not been updated in quite some time. We were also under the impression that we had 2 offstreet parking spots, but we only had 1. There were 2 other spots. One was occupied by the owners who lived on property, didn't know that! The other remained empty until the weekend, though we were told not to park there at all. Overall the house was ok, though I doubt we will rent it again.

I would recommend this more for adults than children for that reason. We were all over 25 and there to enjoy the nightlife so it worked great for us. Be sure to walk down to Kelly's for happy hour!
