For the two of us,
The cottage was clean and neat. We especially enjoyed the outside shower (never used the inside for the entire month)
One bedroom but there was a loft. You could sleep 6 but not adults.
We were sur charged $106 for using over the $175 electric usage allowance
Two 60 year olds with two window air conditioners in the hot month of June.
The aC was way inadequate, loud and apparently very expensive.
Automatically deducted from our security. Rip off?
No service available on the week ends. Strictly 9 to 5 week days.
Very well stocked kitchen...above average
Thank you for taking the time to review our home. Please note our Rental Agreement is clear that there is a $175 cap on electric use; overage is deducted from the Security Deposit.
Our office hours are 9am-5pm on weekdays, 10am-2pm on Saturdays, and we have someone On Call 24/7.

Very good service from @homeinkeywest! Quick and nice! Really trying to solve any problems appearing.
The house is nice. The decoration needs maybe some attention, very basic, but everything is there. Only exception is the kitchen equipment: for a monthly rent we'd expect it to be in better shape. Usable pans and not all the mugs chipped...
Unfortunately the neighbours are very much party people. We once even had to call 911 at 1.30am to stop them... Don't expect peaceful and quiet evenings.
During christmas and new year weeks plenty of parades and events. We loved Key West and will come back for sure!

The Varela Cottage was a great, cozy cottage that I called "home" for 45 nights from mid-June until early august, 2011. Everything that I needed was there, and the location was close enough to everything, but far enough to be tucked away from the bustle.
Disappointing...has potential but noisy and needy.

After years visiting Key West & staying in many different long & short term lodgings, we decided to make the move & needed a monthly rental while looking for permanent residence. After traveling 1250 miles pulling a trailer, we get in town tired & hot at 3:00. But we couldn't check in because as we were curtly reminded several times Check-in was at 4:00 - not one minute earlier. At 4:01 we got our keys & went to the house. On arrival, the cottage was quaint & would meet our needs but right away problems arose that would not be expected in a "just bring your clothes" vacation rental at that price. No can opener, broken microwave, broken sink stoppers, broken furniture, less than camping grade utensils, dollar store silverware, old dishes, door fell off the laundry room, iron but no ironing board, sliding glass doors wouldn't slide or lock (used a stick, backyard landscaping consisted of broken pots, piles of rubble & plant debris from lack of yard maintenance. Having a hot tub was a nice idea - during the day, at night you had to fight the rats for it. Finally, the neighbors (locals)..we had the female version of animal House literally 3 ft. from our bedroom window. 4 out of 7 nights for the entire month they partied hard anywhere from 1:00 to 5:30 am. At the end of our month, we visited the atHome office several times to ask about our deposit & gave them our new local address. I made a final attempt only to find the check had been in the office for a week & was in the outbox going to our old address. And, we did not get our entire deposit back because we ran over on our electric bill which was no surprise since the house was not energy efficient by any stretch of the imagination. The house has great potential...lots of space and great location. The kitchen and landscaping need attention as well as a sit down with the neighbors. This ultimately was our worst experience. Now, we're living around the corner in a wonderfully appointed cottage with a pool for less money. Read more
Thank you for taking the time to review our home. I would like to address each of the items you mention as follows: 1. This home was occupied until the morning you arrived. When a home can be prepared in advance, early check-in is possible; unfortunately it was not possible in this situation. 2. We pride ourselves in responding immediately to guest's concerns as we did immediately replace the microwave when you informed us it was broken. The other items you mention were not brought to our attention during your month-long stay. 3. Noisy neighbors are certainly frustrating; calling the police usually curbs that behavior and we encourage our guests to do so. If you had contacted us about it, we would have recommended that to you as well. 4. Your Security Deposit check was issued 2 weeks after you departed the home and was being held at our front office which was what you requested us to do; it was not in a mail outbox, it was on the reception desk waiting for you to pick up.
We're pleased to know you found a home where you're happy. Enjoy your time in Key West.

My first evenings rest was very uneasy at most, I was confronted with sprits from times past.It was however a very satisfying stay after speaking my peace and terms.I could tell that this home must have been an older conch home many years ago and I am sure it has many secrets hidden within its walls. I is a very comfertable home with many warm possibilities. The back yard was a very nice santuary for solitude and the hot tub was a fabulous pluse. I had requested a radio from an indevidual who was checking on my stay but had no luck.I foud this years stay to be very chilly and found no heat in the unit.(It really was not that big a deal.)The house cleaner noticed that I had put extra sheets on my bed, so she or he left a quilt on my bed.(Thank you very much for being observent.) Ther seems to be very much unrest with the neighbores to one side, they spend evening hours at odds with one another. All in all I love my home for the month and my journey in old town was quit interesting. I Love Key West! Best Regards. Rene Rainville
