Milwaukee, WisconsinStay Here!
Left on 04/11/2013 for a stay in September 2012
Do not hesitate to stay here! I agree that the house is not perfect and might need a few updates but nothing that will ruin your vacation. The kitchen and upstairs bathroom have been recently updated. My husband and I stayed in the house for our honeymoon. It was just the two of us so we had plenty of space. We thought it would be great to return with another couple due to the division of bedrooms/bathrooms between the two levels of the house. The house is in the best location! Close to Duval Street, restaurants, bars and a Walgreens for supplies. The location alone made the house worth the price. We stayed during one of the hottest months in KW, so we really appreciated the cold pool (we did not get the heat turned on) and the excellent a/C in the house. If you are going to KW in September, a pool is a necessity!! It was great to come home after a day of walking around or a night out and jump into the pool. There is a loud humming noise outside but we just cranked up the volume on the outdoor stereo system. I would agree that the roosters were more of an annoyance than the humming noise but roosters are a part of the KW life! We had after-hours check-in due a later flight, so a property manager met us at the house. Easy! Since the office is literally right next door, check-out was also easy. We will return, just probably not in September due to the crazy heat/humidity.

Burnsville, MinnesotaGreat location and charming, but...
Left on 03/21/2013 for a stay in March 2013
This cottage is very charming and has a great location. However, it needs some time off for some much needed TLC. The first thing I noticed upon entering the property through the gate was the main level bathroom shutter was being propped open with a long BBQ fork! Interesting, maybe that fits the Key West laid back atmosphere, but kind of an odd first impression. Upon entering the actual cottage you are greeted with a bit of a musty smell which did disipate after awhile, the main level floors and rooms looked very clean. The downstairs bathroom actually had a bleach smell wich was good. However, the saddest part of the whole property was the very dirty/warn carpeting that was up the stairs and throughout the upper level (master bedroom and 2nd living room area). A cleaning is not going to help this, it needs replacing. The cottage is adorable and has a great layout for two couples traveling with each other, it offered privacy for each of us. Also, the living space upstairs appears to have a pullout couch, so it would be good for families as well. I just could not get past that carpeting! There were other small things that took away from the charm of this property; the shutter over the window in the master bedroom has seen better days, it had several missing slats, so it just looked junky. Overall the place needs some fresh paint, upholstery cleaning or replacement and again, that carpeting has to go! The back yard is wonderful, the pool and landscaping lovely and it's very relaxing. Yes, the big at&T; building next door is loud, but did not at all take away from the atmosphere in the backyard. Actually, I was able to tune it out quite easily. The roosters in the morning were louder than the at&T; building! We had to give in and have the pool heated; then the water temp was quite lovely. It was too cold to use without the heat on as our week in Key West was a bit windy and in the low to mid 70's. I'm wondering if that pool could benefit from having a solar cover/blanket to utilize the sun for heating. The outdoor furniture was ample and comfortable. The kitchen looked recently updated with great appliances and adequate equipment. We only had breakfast at the property, so we didn't use it much. Preferred Properties, which is the property management company for this cottage, is conveniently located a few doors down from the cottage. Kudo's to Kimberly with Preferred Properties! When we asked to get more paper products and kitchen linens, she delivered within the hour and gave us plenty of everything. She was very accomodating. We rented bikes for the week and there is ample space in the back yard to keep them secured. Again, this location is great. We were just a couple blocks off of Duval, Key Lime Square is on the same block as the property and had a few restranuts (Mexican, Pizza and Lobo's Mixed Grill). Also located in this block is Krawl off Duval which has a great bean bag toss game to play in the alley leading to the Plaza. Sarahbeth's which is great for breakfast/lunch is across the street. We could bike or walk to just about anything we wanted to do. Parking is either in front of the property in the brick drive (but is very tight) or behind the property in the lot, no hassels at all with the car. We used our bikes for transportation for the whole week, car not really needed. I would have given this property a 5 star rating if the up keep had been better. It's a great, charming property with an excellent location offering a beautiful backyard that makes you forget you're just steps from the activity on Duval and the rest of Old Town. A true oasis within the heart of Old Town.

We just stayed at the Pinneapple cottage with another couple. The layout is perfect with 1 bedroom and bath upstairs and another bedroom and bath downstairs. Each floor with a living room. The backyard is as others describe, a beautiful private oasis with small pool, nice furniture and lovely plants. The wind is blocked out and therefore the area feels warmer than when you step outside its gates. Duval Street is less than a block away. Perfect location. The only drawback is the house could use some sprucing up. Carpet is old, worn and a bit dirty and the furnishings are tired. Some paint and patching would also be helpful. Would definitely recommend a stay despite.

NYCGreat, despite a few problems . . .
Left on 01/22/2013 for a stay in December 2012
Pineapple Cottage is spacious, comfortable, and extremely private (despite being less than a block from Duval Street). It's also perfect for the winter season: The walls surrounding the outdoor space really trap the heat in, making it at least 5-10 degrees warmer back by the pool than it was outside in what we called the "real world"! ;)
However, we did encounter a number of problems that were not resolved during our stay. When we first arrived, there was a swarm of bees around the small fountain (which is unfortunately located directly behind the lounge chairs). We called the property manager, who sent someone over with some bug spray and, when that didn't solve the problem, an exterminator was called. Rather than locate and remove the nest, however, the exterminator told us that since the bees seemed to be attracted to the fountain, we should just turn it off -- which we didn't want to do since we liked the sound and it was good cover for the humming of the central air. Finally my husband went and bought some industrial-strength spray and that seemed to do the trick.
Other problems included (1) the TV in the living room didn't work, and no one ever came to fix it after we called, (2) the speakers for the sound system didn't work indoors or outdoors, and no one ever came to fix it after we called, and (3) we paid $150 extra for pool heat and they assured us it was on, but it was not, and no one could get in the pool as a result. Luckily the gate where the pool heater is housed was unlocked (it appears that it's usually padlocked), so my husband adjusted the temperature himself (thank god he's pretty handy!). We also had to get an extension cord to be able to use the iron downstairs, since the outlet that was closest to the ironing board was faulty (we plugged it in in the kitchen instead).
Obviously none of these are deal-breakers, but if you rent this house expecting everything to be in perfect working order, you may be disappointed. We spent at least an hour or two on each of the first two days of our visit calling the office and dealing with the exterminator / handyman which, again, isn't a deal-breaker considering how fabulous the house is otherwise, but isn't something we'd care to repeat, either. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much, but we'd make sure these issues were resolved before we'd book another visit. -

Draper, VirginiaAn Oasis a half-block off of Duval
Left on 01/16/2013 for a stay in January 2013
A spacious 2-bedroom cottage with an absolutely beautiful tropical garden and pool. You would not know that you are just a bit off of Duval. Its quiet and restfull, but convenient (its on Southard St so its at about the center of the Duval St, a block from Margaritaville!) and the place has essentially 2 studio apartments with a shared kitchen. It was very clean, but is a bit dated in terms of the furniture. The only real complaint we had is that the stair carpet needs to be replaced (had been cleaned but still shows its age) and the rental agency (Preferred Properties) is not exactly on top of things in terms of knowing what is in the house, outdated instructions etc. But then they are just 2 doors away so they were easy to grab hold of, and did respond to our needs.

Harrisonburg, VirginiaA private garden paradise....loved it!
Left on 09/21/2012 for a stay in July 2012
This was our first trip to Key West and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay! The house was secluded and private even though it is only half a block off of Duval. Everything is within walking distance, groceries, liquor store, shopping, restaurants, bars, beach, etc. The best part was the private pool. It was the perfect size for a group of four. We cooked in several nights and grilled the best shrimp fresh from a seafood market within walking distance. I cannot say enough about how fantastic our vacation was due in part to staying at this beautiful property!
The only negative had nothing to do with the property itself but with the rental agency, Preferred Properties. At check in we received very little information and did not have any way to contact someone from the rental office outside of business hours. We rented a car one day and got back too late from Key Largo to return it so we had to park it at the house but did not know where our designated parking spot was and there was no one to call. I did call and leave messages but I never received a response. I recommend asking all of your questions up front at check-in because you will never hear from the rental people for the rest of the week unless you call during business hours which doesn't help you if something unexpected happens after hours. -

NJPrivate, Secure, and Perfect!
Left on 06/16/2012 for a stay in May 2012
This lovely home is absolutely perfect for 4 people! My husband and I travel to KW annually for our anniversary, and brought another couple with us this time as well. You cant beat the location, 1/2 block from the middle of Duval. The staff at Preferred Properties was very friendly. You will never know the home is there unless you are staying there. It is very secure as both front and back entrances have gates that automatically lock when you exit. Parking is provided in the lot behind the property.
The home was modern, spotless, and very comfortable. My husband and I stayed upstairs, king bed, and our friends downstairs. Upstairs has an en suite bath with shower and washer/dryer. Downstairs has a queen bed and bathroom right outside of that bedroom. There is a very large living room upstairs as well. The kitchen was fully stocked with supplies if you want to cook, even some spices. Plenty of glasses for all kinds of cocktails, coffee cups, etc.
The pool is great! Not huge, but absolutely perfect for the 4 of us, and a nice deck with plenty of lounge chairs. There is a stero wired with outdoor speakers, but we could only get about 3 stations to come in. There is also a charcoal grill available, but we opted not to so we could enjoy all of the fabulous dining the island has to offer.
All 4 of us loved the house, and other friends of ours that were in town came by to see it, and also loved it. I can not wait to travel with a group again, just so I can stay here! -

BermudaOnly one drawback
Left on 03/25/2011 for a stay in March 2011
Agree with all other reviews re. quaintness etc. The major drawback is the incessant 24 hour drone from the aC unit on the tall building next door. It is irritating and the owners should do their utmost to agree some sort of noise deflection. I was in the group.of 4. I am not the person who signed the lease.
John L. Williams, BermudaResponse from Pineapple Cottage - 12/05/2011

The AC noise was due to the wind catching the shutters on the building next door. The issue has been resolved.

Left on 10/26/2010 for a stay in September 2010
We absolutely loved the Pineapple cottage! It was better than the pictures and the location was the best! It is very close to Duval street but very quiet and private. It was very spacious and we had more than enough room. There is a bedroom and bath and living room on the first floor and the second floor has a separate living room and bedroom and bath. The pool is very sunny and the deck is big with enough chairs for everyone. The people at the office were very helpful and friendly. I won't stay anywhere else when I am in Key West!

Left on 10/15/2010 for a stay in October 2010
We booked through preferred properties and they were very helpful. The cottage is right next to their office so check in was easy. I have to be honest and say I was very apprehensive when we entered the cottage through the car park but I needn't have been, it's like entering your own private oasis! You would never know it is there, but its so close to everything which is perfect. The decking area/garden is incredibly private, not overlooked by anyone. Loved the pool, perfect to cool down in and just the right size for my husband to learn to swim in. It's well equipped with sun loungers, chairs etc and we made good use of the BBQ.
The kitchen downstairs is perfect and lots of equipment etc, the only thing lacking was a tea towel but other than that perfect. We didn't use the bedroom downstairs but it was very nice and the bathroom next to it has a double shower.
The bedroom upstairs is great, very spacious with en suite and there is also another good sized living room. There was plenty of additional bedding, towels etc which was very handy. The only small complaint is that the pillows on the bed were not feather so not that comfortable.
All in all I would thoroughly recommend pineapple cottage, we really loved it and enjoyed our time there very much
