Just behind the curving waterfront of Key West's picturesque harbor lies the 19th century Historic Seaport District of this once great trade center. It is here where grand wooden homes, such as the Grand Marshall Key West -Bahama Estate,were built by original seafaring merchant's.Today these magnificent homes continue to line the narrow island streets, punctuated with blocks of white picket fences with capital posts. Today the history of this unique architecture is often under-appreciated.
Most do not realize that the bravest of these early home builders were 1700's British loyalist settlers of the Bahamas, who created an es...tablished sailing route between sleepy Green Turtle Bahamas and the bustling island of Key West. During the ensuing 150 years, many of these settlers gradually relocated to Key West (sometimes moving their houses with them), and in the process established unique architectural roots that still bind the two islands together.
This spectacular large Grand Marshall Key West - Bahama Estate vacation rental is a beautiful representation Key West - Bahamian architecture, and a center piece of this Old Town Key West neighborhood. Built as a 19th century single family, a recent renovation completely restored the original exterior of the house and modernized the interior to divide it into 3 spacious upscale suites.
The interior renovation was thoughtfully re-designed to create a luxury private inn style vacation rental for families, corporate groups, or smaller groups that want to be in the same location, yet have their privacy. The entire interior of this Old Town Key West property was given an upscale makeover. Into the charm of this spacious Victorian home, the interior designer introduced new bamboo hardwood flooring, travertine marble tile, granite counter tops, ambient lighting, high end appliances and fixtures, and contemporary island furnishings and appointments.
The new modern layout was designed to function ideally as a luxury accommodation for a larger single group, or as the perfect configuration for a smaller group who appreciates more space and privacy, but want to be together in the same home. It also has an added advantage of 3 separate galley style kitchens!
INTERIOR LAYOUT: Below is a detailed description of the interior layout of this home by floor, to show you the bedroom, living room, kitchen, and bathroom layout and to explain how it functions as three separate suites that are tied together in one home.
Downstairs - Front: The front door entrance of the home leads you to the Green Turtle Suite that encompasses the front-third-downstairs of the Key West - Bahama Estate. This beautiful space provides 1 bedroom with a queen bed, 1 full bathroom, and a large living room open to a fully equipped kitchen. Furnishings in every room are beautiful and comfortable with a contemporary tropical theme. Traditional earth tone wicker and wood furnishings create a relaxed and inviting ambience.
The large front porch spans the entire front of this classic revival Victorian house which wraps around to the south side of the home. The living room has multiple sets of French doors on the south side wall that open to beautifully landscaped gardens complete with a large sun deck and large swimming pool. The bedroom, with queen sized bed, is located just off the living room. The living room has a queen sized sleeper sofa.

Downstairs - Back: Completely hidden from the street, Abaco Suite encompasses the back two-thirds of the first floor of the Key West - Bahama Estate. This elegant space provides 2 spacious bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, large living room, and fully equipped kitchen. The master bedroom offers a King size bed and the second bedroom offers a Queen size bed. This part of the home has a private entrance on the north side of the house.
Once inside the spacious living room, open beamed ceilings that are over 12 feet high and painted bright white give an uplifting feel. Furnishings carry the same theme as the rest of the home. Contemporary tropical earth tone wicker and wood furnishings create a relaxed and inviting ambience, and six sets of glass French doors open out to the private back and side garden and decks making a perfect setting for indoor / outdoor living. The north side deck offers the private dipping and exercise pool just off the French doors, while the south side French doors lead to the large sun deck and swimming pool. This suite offers another kitchen and two full bathrooms.

Upstairs - 2nd Floor: We call the second floor of our classic revival Key West Bahama Estate the Topsail Suite. This offers a spacious 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom hideaway that encompasses the entire second floor of the home. This charming "loft suite" offers a birds-eye view of beautiful Frances Street in the Key West Historic Seaport District. The open and airy living room has multiple sets of glass French doors that open to the Victorian porches and invite in the sunlight and breezes. Open beamed ceilings that are over 12 feet high and painted bright white give an uplifting feel.
A "ship's ladder" style staircase leads to the over-sized "stand up" loft bedroom, creating a 3rd floor effect. This bedroom has two twin beds that can be pushed together make a king bed. A wooden railing creates an atrium view from which you can look down at the living room area. The galley kitchen, which also opens to the porches, has a pass through window connecting it with the living room.
The second bedroom, which has a queen size bed, and the full bathroom are just off the hall from the living room. The living room adjoins a classic Victorian wrap around porch that loops from the front of the house to the side, to overlook the landscaped deck and large swimming pool below.
Tasteful furnishings are consistent with the other suites in this estate property. Earth tone tropical wicker, bamboo, leather, and wood furnishings create a relaxed and inviting island breeze ambience.

GROUNDS: The property grounds are fenced all the way around in the front and back for privacy. The side and back yard is decked with a huge deck creating a wonderful indoor / outdoor living room for private entertaining complete with very large swimming pool (on the south side) and private cocktail / exercise pool off the Abaco Suite on the north side. Beautiful landscaping creates a romantic tropical setting. Large verandahs that wrap from the front of the home to the south side create additional gorgeous sitting areas to view the grounds and watch the world go by. The home has beautiful curb appeal located in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the Key West Historic Seaport neighborhood.
Activities: Heart of Key West's designated Historic Seaport District. Walk to all old town features, no need for a car. Just a few short streets from Duval St. (remember it takes 3 to 4 Key West streets to make a city block); 2 streets from the harbor where the boats are docked. Close to the Key West Mallory Square Sunset Celebration, and Old Town Key West retailers. Close to adventures and activities including sailing, boating, diving, museums, nightlife. Conveniently located near gourmet grocery shopping with excellent wine selection, sushi deli, and butcher. Close to shopping, art galleries, a variety of national and international restaurants, coffee shops. Close to the beach.
Area: Heart of Key West’s designated Historic Seaport District. This popular and famous neighborhood has many alluring Victorian Homes and cottages. It has the famous Old Town Key West waterfront and lower Duval Street with waterfront restaurants and bars.
Parking: This home was built in a neighborhood before there were cars. You can park on the street, but we recommend that you park at City of Key West Parking Lot just a few short streets away as most street parking is reserved for permanent residents. From this location you do not need a car. Enjoy walking or biking everywhere you'll see more that way.
Restrictions: Smoking permitted outside only. Absolutely no pets please.
Notes: This property is located in a residential neighborhood where most residents live full time. This neighborhood is most definitely not suitable for staging loud parties. Only well behaved children are welcome. This property is not "child-proof." We do not accept guests less than 25 years of age unless accompanied by a family group or guardian.

I stayed as part of a large group of girlfriends celebrating a birthday. The house is located on a wonderful residential street. We rented all 3 units that make up the Grand Marshall. The units were all clean and well maintained. The kitchens were all well-stocked with most of what you'd need. The pools were clean and we used the larger one every day. Our only complaint would be with the keys, as each unit is only given 2 keys. We had 4 people staying in each unit and 2 keys was not sufficient. The bars close at 4, we were often leaving places at different times and had to pay attention as to who had keys to which unit. It's also important to remember to lock all of the doors. All that being said, we would certainly rent this property again.
