Largo, FL USA fabulous place to rent...

We had a wonderful time staying at the mermaids house. The front fenced in patio was great for relaxing and people watching... the rooms were spacious and the outdoor shower was the best. The large back yard was great for a nice BBQ and a glass of wine. The hammock was a huge hit with our group. We would definitely plan to rent this house again in the future. It was a great place and a reasonable price.

My experience at Mermaid's house was everything I expected and more. From the moment we arrived to a very welcoming amber, who was full of excellent advice, to the last day of our departure. The house was just what we wanted to experience in Key West. The location was a block off Duval street and centrally located to an evening entertainment. The house was comfortable and provided us with all that we neated. We loved the outside shower!!! The backyard was an amazing space to spend a quiet evening sipping wine and enjoying a star fillled evening. We cant wait to return again.

Our small family (1 kid) stayed at this wonderful cottage during the spring break. We loved it! We walked and biked everywhere and there are so many restaurants and shops close-by, just a block on Duval Street. The house has updated furnishings but old charm, just like photos from Coastal Living magazine! We loved spending time in the outside deck area too. The house also showed the owner's special attention, in that everything (from how to adjust ceiling fan to kitchen, laundry area) had convenient note on post-it's, so there was no confusion.

The Mermaids House was a perfect place for my family and I to stay while in Key West. It was full of quality amenities and was beautifully decorated. There was plenty of room to stretch out and the shady hammock in the private backyard was a particular draw. One of the best parts about the Mermaids House was that it was located on a tiny stretch of a quiet two block street yet it was only two blocks from all the fun crazy action on Duval Street. We can't wait to return!

We stayed at The Mermaids House four times and plan on a fifth stay next year. That alone is testament to our satisfaction with The Mermaids House. It is a wonderful rental in a great location with Duval Street only a short block away. We couldn't ask for more. Each year Barbara has made improvements to the property without altering its historic ambiance. The property still maintains the charm of Old Town Key West. We would highly recommend The Mermaids House for ones stay in Key West.

We absolutely loved this charming house! It felt like a home away from home. It is in a great location, walking distance to downtown. The house is nicely decorated with a lot of old Florida charm! Great patio and deck outside for entertaining and relaxing. Fully stocked with all the essentials---interesting china and glassware, pots, pans, silverware, serving platters, napkins, coffee, tea, spices, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, plenty of towels and linens, and even bicycles to use. The only slight negative would be that it only has one bathroom but we loved the outdoor shower. We thoroughly enjoyed out stay and would definitely stay here again!

My husband, my son and myself stayed here for a week. Amber was a great host, available whenever we needed her. We didn't need her though. Thanks again amber. And thanks you Barbara for allowing us to use your charming home. We loved the outside shower, very relaxing after touring the town. The kitchen was very cozy as everthing about the whole house. I'm a coffee drinker and was able to make coffee as well as expresso too. You will be able to see photos once we get home at my facebook page. Kjh message in a bottle @facebook.com

Monroe, New YorkA wonderful place to stay!
Left on 07/31/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We spent the past week staying at the Mermaids House (in my mind plural, as there are mermaids all over the property!), and we had a wonderful time. The location, a block off Duval, on a quiet side street, could not be better - just about everything is within walking distance, and if so inspired, there are also two bicycles available for use. The house, an old Conch style house, faces north, and even returning after a long day exploring, with the a/c turned off, remains cool and comfortable. There's a comfortable living room, two bed rooms, bath, and a very large back yard with both a dining area and a great area for sitting and enjoying the evening breezes. All that said, the part that we (New Yorkers from the Hudson Valley) enjoyed the most was the outdoor shower! Taking a shower in the morning, under the blue sky, seeing the trees and listening to the birds was such a delightful experience. While we rented a car, as we were driving down from Miami after a cruise, we didn't use it the whole time we were there. If you're flying into Key West, just take a cab, and use bikes the rest of the time. On a more prosaic level, Barbara, the owner was very easy and pleasant to deal with, and amber, the Property Manager was likewise, and also full of very useful suggestions and hints to make our visit all the better. She recommended La Trattoria on Duval for dinner one night, for example, and we had our best meal of the week. We had a really great time, and look forward very much to a return visit.

The Mermaid's House was an ideal base for a relaxing week. Really well situated for all of Key West's attractions and being just one block off Duval Street, it is in a relaxing, quiet location allowing for plenty of sleep when needed!
The house is well equipped, clean and having plenty of comfortable outdoor furniture if you want to stay around the house for some time. There were many condiments around left for us so that we didn't have to go shopping straight away. We were also grateful for the large amount of towels, beach towels, etc. The free wifi was much appreciated. If you needed it, there were plenty of books and Dvd's to pass the time, especially during one of the storms!
The outdoor shower and bikes went down well and the house was full of character and originality making for a great base.
We were met on arrival by Oma who was really friendly and helpful.
One slight downside was the noise from the air-conditioning in the rear bedroom. Although the main unit was based outside the house, the noise generated by the system in the bedroom meant that we didn't leave the air conditioning on at night as it meant that the person in the room had difficulty sleeping. It wasn't a huge issue as we relied on the overhead fans, although it was a bit hot at night - it certainly didn't spoil the good time we had there. -

My husband and I stayed at The Mermaids House for 4nts over 4th of July. The location is perfect. You can walk to everything. The house itself is very cute and the decor makes you feel like you're living in old Key West. It's well kept and comfortable. The backyard is outstanding. Lots of sitting areas to enjoy your morning coffee or a drink in the evening. The hammock is a great place to have a nap in the afternoon. We loved the outdoor shower. You look up and see tropical trees and flowers all around you. We want to build one of these at home now it was so great! We will definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone considering. You'll feel like a Key West local and you can't get that at a hotel. You won't be disappointed. Thanks Barbara for sharing your home with us!

Absolutely everything about this home is perfection! We felt like we were in the Key West of old, yet with all the modern conveniences. We were even greeted by Jimmy Buffett on the cd player! It was much larger than we expected and is in a perfect location - you can walk or bike to everything. Biking is absolutely the way to get around and explore, even at night! We parked the car when we arrived and never used it again until we had to leave. Amber is great for giving suggestions about where to eat and what to do, and there is also a folder and list of lots of local information in the house. And it is very very quiet at the Mermaids House. The only problem we had was deciding where to relax - the front porch was fabulous and perfect for morning coffee, the back yard is huge and has many lounging options, the living room has great light for reading and furniture for napping, and even hanging in the kitchen on the bar stools was great! But perhaps it is the outside, open air shower that we loved the most. We are now having trouble adjusting to showering inside. We will definitely return, we just hope it will be sooner rather than later.

My friend and i spent a week at Mermaid's house and were delighted by the ambiance, comfort and location. One block form Duval on a quiet street, the setting is perfect for exploring on foot the major places of interest in beautiful Key West. The house is wonderfully equipped for visitors. Best of all, it has a Kew West charm that makes you feel you are part of the scene!

This is a great place to stay for seeing Key West! All the amenities you need for 2-4 people; has all the comforts of home and just 1 block off of Duval St. It's very well decorated, many original historic features, clean, and has a great backyard patio for outdoor dining, relaxing in the hammock, or just enjoying time there. Bikes are available for discovering the beaches, the Hemingway House and all of Key West. You dont need a car if staying here. The house is quiet at night for sleeping.. and love the shower with privacy but still under the stars! Easy to walk to restaurants, sunset at Mallory Square, or all the shops of Key West. Make sure you try the Better Than Sex dessert place just 2 blocks away. Incredible homemade desserts and fabulous wine! Have stayed here 3 times and would always come back!
