The rooftop community of Duval Square is a prime perch from which to launch the best tropical vacation ever. The townhomes cluster on the second story above their namesake square. Winding pathways bordered by swaying palm and colorful plantings arranged in terracotta pots define the layout. Best of all, the small gated enclave overlooks the world famous Duval Street. Enjoy the spectacular rooftop pool and the sights of Key West's main artery below. Maybe do a little people watching. And when you've had enough, enter the comfort and tranquility of your townhome with its generous two-story living quarters, including two bedrooms, two and a ha...lf baths, and private deck with private hot tub.
The townhouse door opens into a front foyer with windows on two sides, plants, and an entry table perfect for depositing your keys and guidebook so they'll be handy to grab next time you venture out. The home's dining space features a glass-top table and four chairs, a mirror, and a natural bamboo hutch with drawers and cabinets below. To the right is the kitchen, done in cloud white with a few dark accents. One side of the U-shaped countertop also serves double duty as a convenient breakfast bar complete with stool chairs. All the appliances you'd expect are at your fingertips, with ample cabinet space above and below. This is an ideal kitchen for preparing a three or four course meal or for warming leftovers from some fabulous meal you ate the night before. A window over the sink provides plenty of ambient light or later, as the day turns to evening, use the contemporary recessed spot lighting. Next to the kitchen is a laundry closet with washer and dryer and an ever-so-convenient half bath.
To the front of the home is the living room space outfitted with a couch that invites lounging, a contoured swivel chair, and a glass-top coffee table with shelf space beneath for magazines or other reading material you brought along. An area rug cushions the natural tile floor beneath and a Florida ceiling fan whirrs above. The cozy scene is completed with floor lamps. This conversational setting faces a Scandinavian design wall unit that holds stereo and other electronic equipment with plenty of shelves left over for your travel paraphernalia. Of course there's cable, wireless high-speed Internet, and a DVD player. This is the perfect space for reading, watching a movie, or enjoying family and friends. Maybe a game of Cards Against Humanity or something a bit lower down on the edgy scale like Clue. From here you can step through glass doors to your private deck with a bubbly hot tub for two in one corner. A table and chairs create a delightful al fresco eating spot perfect for a midmorning meal or starlight dinner. Maybe you'll consider a soak in the spa before bedtime.
The staircase is carpeted and leads to the second floor with its two bedrooms and two full baths. Each bedroom contains spacious closet space for your hanging items and chest of drawers for foldable items. The first room offers a queen bed and en suite full bath. The second, the Master, offers a king bed, en suite full bath, and, through glass doors, a small fresh air private balcony with two chairs and a table. If you feel inclined to enjoy a morning latte or nightcap here, go ahead. It's the perfect place.
After you've checked out this exceptional living space, wander down to the temperature-controlled pool reserved for the exclusive use of Duval Square townhouse residents. The pool is spacious while the chaise lounges are inviting. Sit here under the canopied roof for shade or out in the sun to work on a tan. If other bathers are enjoying the pool at the same time, you can strike up a conversation, share vacation stories, and get tips about great places to go in Key West. Although the townhome comes with covered parking, you can walk or bike almost anywhere you want to go from this ideal location.
When adventure calls, wander down to the shops, boutiques, a full-service salon, and restaurants that comprise the charming Duval Square. The Square has the feel of a botanical garden with the convenience of services and food added in. Down a few steps from here brings you to Duval Street itself, which has been officially designated a Great Street by the American Planning Association. A left turn will head you toward the shores of the Atlantic and a right turn will head you toward the Gulf of Mexico. In between are all the things that make the Conch Republic so famous: beaches, tours, museums, shopping, over two hundred restaurants, bars, and the Key West Aquarium where you can pet a shark if you dare. Or maybe you'd prefer to have butterflies land on your shoulder at the Butterfly Conservatory. Perhaps have your picture taken at the Southernmost Point buoy or pose with a parrot perched on your head. If the arts interest you, you've come to the right place for music, movies, plays, art galleries, lectures, artists in residence open studios, and more. Don't miss the sunset celebration at Mallory Square or the opportunities for all kinds of water sports along the Historic Seaport boardwalk.

The condo we rented, was nice, clean, roomy, fantastic location. A better value than the Bed & Breakfast. The location was close to the excitement of Duval Street, but was quiet. Really enjoyed the pool.
Ask about Construction
Left on 02/20/2014 for a stay in January 2014 | Angie
The location of Duval Square was great for the experience we wanted, and the townhouse itself wasn't bad. However, we weren't told about the construction that would be going on literally on the townhouse we were staying in. It started at 7am each morning during the week and went on all day. So, even though the unit had a kitchen, we didn't want to stay there to eat lunch, because of all of the banging. Needless to say, it was not the relaxing vacation we had hoped. We read the contract to see if we could be moved, and it specifically states that they can do maintenance at any time. I didn't realize that also meant loud construction. Won't be staying there again. Read more
Angela, we are sorry about the construction around the complex that week. We were notified by the Condo Association just 10 days prior to your arrival of “impending” construction with no exact dates even then. (It comes in waves over there.) Unfortunately, we cannot control their association so we apologize on their behalf. It’s very frustrating for us, even more so for you of course, that these condo boards do not plan better and notify us in a timely manner. Again, we apologize for this.
For the benefit of future Guests staying at any of our properties, when we know about construction in advance that will adversely affect a stay, we do NOT rent the home. Instead, we remove it from the rental pool for the duration of construction whenever possible and practical. Also, in general we DO move people when last minute issues like this happen (and they do) but in this case it was race week and we had nothing left to move this Guest to. Finally, the maintenance we refer to in our contract is stuff directly related to inside the home or stuff we have control over (if something breaks and you call about it for example) or pool, yard weekly service, etc. It does not refer to construction around homes (neighbors, condo boards, etc.) that we have no control over. - Management

The townhouse was perfect for 4 people. Very clean, roomy and comfortable. The kitchen was adequately stocked with dishes, pots, pans, coffee maker, etc. It was nice to have a washer/dryer as well. The location was great since it was steps away from Duval Street. Even though we stayed during Fantasy Fest, it was quiet. No crowd or road noise. We had an issue with one of the bathroom faucets not working properly. We called and the faucet was fixed that same day. Very impressive!

The "Excellent Service award" goes to Tim Gauthier with Historic Hideaways. Our Duval Square unit was in a perfect location. All of our expectations were met by friendly service, and fine dinning. The home was very comfortable with all of your standard amenities.
My wife and I, along with another couple, had a wonderful Key West experience. Of course we ate too much Key lime Pie, but isn't that what you are suppose to do while on vacation...We won't talk about the " Fine Dinning, and wine " other than to say: great ! We are looking forward to our next trip to Key West.
Fabulous Stay at Duval Square

We enjoyed our stay at Duval Square. We were able to walk to all our destinations. The condo was very comfortable for our group of four. We would have enjoyed using the hot tub but it was not hot and too much of a chemical smell. We did enjoy the use of the nearby pool. Overall the condo was a great and convenient place to stay.

It was a clean house, we really liked the private parking garage that was locked, it's very difficult to find parking in Key West. It was clean, but it truely needs some serious updating. The bed was only a queen, for the size of the room (huge) it should have been a King and the comfort level was horrible. Very nice that it had three bathrooms (powder room downstairs off living room). The biggest down fall was the cockroaches in the kitchen at night (or at least I think they where cockroaches, I've never seen one before. We did have a car, but if you didn't you would be ok. The most Southern point, Lighthouse, Hemmingway's house are all within walking distance. Read more

My wife and I stayed at the Duval Street hideaway for my wife 50th birthday and our wedding anniversary. It is a fantastic property that is close to everything. You are 10 to 20 minute walk from the nightlife in Key West. At the end of the day when you want to relax on the patio with a glass of wine it is private and quiet even though you are right in the middle of everything. We are already another trip back to Key West and we will definitely be using Historic Hideaways to book our rental property. I highly recommend this property.

Last year my family and I stayed at this house for Thanks giving weekend. We had an amazing time. The house was clean, had lots of natural sunlight. We honestly didn't want to leave. The only thing is that the Jacuzzi didn't work, they sent out someone to repair it.
And the staff was great, very polite and professional. We recommend Duval Square =)

Parking in Key West is a challenge. Thank goodness we had one parking place below the facility. You absolutely do not need a car if staying in Duval Square. The hot tub would not heat to the appropriate temperature and it took 4 days (over a weekend) for the pool guy to arrive. Checked the hot tub and all checked out. The condo is a bit out dated but I guess I knew that going in based on the price. Laundry room door needed repair and towel bar in main bath. With a little TLC condo could be a bargain. Enjoyed the time in Key West, always something to do any time of the day and night.

We rented a two bedroom condo at Duval Square for 6 nights and we were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived! The price is very reasonable for the amenities - 2 bedrooms (upstairs), 2 1/2 baths, full kitchen, living room, community pool, a exclusive deck with table/chairs and a hot tub. The location was wonderful - right on Duval just a few blocks away from all of the action! My only complaint is that the hot tub had way too much chlorine in it - so I did not get to enjoy it which was one of my reasons for selecting this property. Other than that, it was fabulous!

Lovely spacious condo with full kitchen, 2 master baths, in a gated community above the stores and restaurants of Duval Square. Just far enough away from the all night craziness of Duval Street, but yet close enough to participate in the "Duval Crawl" if you want to! Everything is within walking distance - we have stayed in this unit several times and when we fly directly into Key West we don't even rent a car - although - there is gated parking below the unit as well. The stores, bars, restaurants of Duval street are just a few blocks up, all the boat launch sites if you take tours are close enough to walk to as well and the beaches, although a little bit farther are still walkable - or a short taxi ride, bike ride, scooter ride... All and all it a great location, beautiful unit, and we already have plans to visit it again this summer!

We have stayed at Duval Square more then once, and can't wait to go back. The condo's are airy and comfortable, well stocked with plenty of towels and dishes, as well as pamphlets for all kinds of things to do all over the island, and through out the keys. The complex is clean, the pool has always been warm and the pool area neat. But, one of the best things about the condo's in Duval Square is the location! We are easy walking distance from all of the hot spots of Key West, but far enough away to not be inundated with noise.
We look forward to returning to Duval Square, and if it we up to us, we'd be there every year!

We liked the condo we rented for a week a lot. It was on the quieter end of Duval Street yet close enough to get to both the beaches, sunset celebration, and the jamming parts of Key West on foot.
Each day we would check out the two beautiful Macaws outside the door of the complex. We loved all the chickens running free through town althought the roosters cookadoodledoining beginnning at 3:30am must take some getting used to. We did not have a bad meal even once the entire week.
We only had one issue on the first night where there were folks partying. It was all right until about 4am when they decided to open their pattio doors to use the hot tub and they woke us up. I had to speak to them once I could not take anymore. They tried it again the next night after quiet time (11pm-7am) and I spoke to them and they cut it out. We reported it to Historic Hideaway. Other than that we had a wicked awesome Key West vacation.

The service was excellent, Everyone was so accommodating & polite.
The house was so very clean & very comfortable to stay in. We so enjoyed the hot tub, too.
The location was beautiful & so convenient to where we wanted to go.
We rented bicycles from across the street & we biked all over Key West. We especially liked Mallory Square! The shops were wonderful to go in & shop.
Parking is very expensive,so that's why we decided to rent bikes.
I loved hearing the roosters crow in the mornings.
Key West is a wonderful place to vacation.
Duval Square Vacation
Left on 03/27/2010 for a stay in February 2010 | Bill
The location of the property was excellent. Right on Duval Square, but on the quiet end. When booking trip i was a little concerned about location and noise. There was no noise, we loved it. It was also a good value. Compared to some other properties I looked at, it was overall a good value plus if you enjoy walking, there is no need to rent bikes or scooters. That saved us several hundred dollars over the two week stay. The unit, I believe it was #6, was a good floor plan, spacious and comfortable. It was well equipped, we had everything we needed.
Now, before I give my critism, I will disclose that I am a Remodeling contractor and as such I am probably more sensitive to the physical structure than others may be. The unit was really worn out. It needs updating. It was obvious to me that most of the finish work Ie; flooring, painting, etc. was done by a real amateur. The furnishings were appropriate but old and worn.
The rental office was very good. We had a situation where we needed access to a printer and fax machine and they were very accomidating.
We would definately stay here again, but would request a different unit.

Decent value for the location

The place isn't perfect, but you will be hard pressed to find this amount of space for the money in a location this good in old town. Decor and furnishings are a bit dated, and the unit itself (as well as the complex) are starting to look a little beat up. Bathrooms and kitchen need to be updated. DSL didnt work upon arrival and took 3 days to get a new modem which was a major inconvienience when you have to work a few hours a day on the road. The postives outweigh the negatives though...The location, on the quiet end of Duval just past Truman, cant be beat. Included parking space is a bonus, not that you need a car here. All in all, a good value for the money.

I had never rented a condo before but hotels are so expensive and unwelcoming. So I found this great place on Duval Square I confirmed the the pics where still accurate with the rental place and everything was exactly as the pics had shown. Everything was sparkling clean and tidy. It was the best decision I had made for my vacation. We had all the comforts of home and yet plenty of room to breathe and relax. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't want to be locked into a small hotel room. I never felt safer and more welcome by the people at the rental office. Great Choice for a great vacation!

had an amazing time and wanting to come back asap. The place in duval sqaure was great, awesome location right in the middle of everything yet quiet and hidden away. No car is needed everything is in walking distance. Beaches, restaurants, bars, and so much more !!! The space was great very clean, beach towels provided and beach chairs which was awesome. Libby at historic hideaways was great too! only complaint we had the bed could have been more comfortable but it really wasn't that bad. And it's a way better deal than any of the hotels in key west. next time i'm in key west i will most definatly go through these guys. thanks for so much for an awesome time.

I understand that things are more expensive in paradise but you should get the experience you are paying for...
They call a hot tub a hot tub for a reason. It should get over 98 degrees. HOT would be great!!!
The bed should be comfortable and relaxing. Not spring laden.
The internet connection should be available as advertised...

Great place to spend New Years, as we did. Close to the action, but far enough away to get a good night's sleep. Would definitely rent again if we were in Key West.
Great place... couple nuances...
Left on 04/17/2009 for a stay in April 2009 | connorsp
The stay overall was wonderful. We were really surprised at how roomy the place was for the money. Couple issues:
The hottub: There's no way to refill the hottub if the level goes down, which as everyone knows, you pack 4 people into a 4 person hottub, and you're bound to need more water. There should be a hose readily available outside.
The washer: On spin cycle it sounds like a freight train was running threw the condo... made it very difficult for us to wash clothes and do anything but leave... probably just needs to be balanced.
Thanks! We are installing a water spiket for the hot tub...the washer just sounds like that...I have the same brand in my own house...sorry!

We had a lovely time at Duval square. The apartment was roomy and comfortable. It was far away enough from the centre to feel peaceful but close enough that after a ten minute walk to be right there. Beth at Historic Hideways was very helpful. On the negative side, the bedding could needs renewal and neighbours are very close so if you are unlucky enough to have "spring breakers" next door it can be quite disruptive. They did calm down when we asked them to!

We have rented from Historic Hideaways several times in the past and always found them to be professional, courteous and willing to go the extra step. We had to come to Key West for unusual circumstances and Corey recommended that this property would be just what we were looking for. He was absolutely right. The proximity to everything, ammenities, layout, and quite surroundings (it's on the quiet end of Duval)surpassed our expectations! I would rent this property any time and would recommend it to friends. We lived in Key West for years, and I didn't even know these condos existed. They are a hidden wonder - hidden in plain sight.

The vacation week was good, except for the use of the barbecue. When we had stayed there before we had used the barbecue every other night (and gone out for dinner the other nights). We have a 6 yr. old and the deal we made with him was the above (as you know 6 yr. olds couldn't care less about eating out) and prefer barbecues and staying in. (ours does anyway). This February we were told that we couldn't use the barbecue and that was a problem for us.
We would come to H.H's again, but would want a place with a pool and barbecue.
